Avenue Q review – provocative puppets return for a feast of filth and fun | Theatre

The trigger warning “puppet nudity” does not begin to cover it. You will also see puppets having sex, singing about being “a little bit racist” and gleefully owning up to their predilections for porn. Avenue Q’s cute subversiveness is back, 20 years after these fuzzy-felt Sesame Street wannabes took the West End by storm. Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx’s Tony award-winning musical is not exactly shocking now but it’s very amusing as these creatures (plus some humans) fall in love, have existential crises and create merry havoc. Directed by Jason Moore on Anna Louizos’s house-lined set, as flat as a child’s drawing, it kicks off with the arrival of bushy-tailed college graduate Princeton (Noah Harrison) on the titular New York street, and leads into his romance with Kate Monster (a Shrek-like outsider played by Emily Benjamin) and his search for life’s greater meaning. His new neighbours include plain-speaking Japanese therapist Christmas Eve (Amelia Kinu Muus), former child star turned handyman Gary (Dionne Ward-Anderson), and Rod (also Harrison) and Nicky (Charlie McCullagh) – flatmates in the …

Man Caught Sleeping Behind the Wheel While FSD Tesla Cruises the Streets After Decadent Feast of Wine and Pizza

Man Caught Sleeping Behind the Wheel While FSD Tesla Cruises the Streets After Decadent Feast of Wine and Pizza

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Some cars these days might be able to drive themselves, but unless you run a multibillion dollar robotaxi company, they still need a fully conscious — not to mention sober — operator behind the wheel. That’s a lesson one San Francisco man learned the hard way, after he was caught dead asleep behind the wheel of a Tesla on Full Self-Driving (FSD) mode last week — surrounded by evidence of a binge that’d probably be cause for alarm even in the safety of his own home. The Tesla was flagged by a “concerned” motorist who saw it driving around Vacaville city, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, in the suburbs of San Francisco. After police officers stopped the Tesla, they found a man slumped over in the driver’s seat, decked out in a sweat suit and surrounded by a buffet of pizza and cheap wine. “The investigation ultimately provided evidence that the driver was under the influence of both …

Yellowstone’s ravens may memorize wolf hunting hotspots—to feast

Yellowstone’s ravens may memorize wolf hunting hotspots—to feast

Get the Popular Science daily newsletter💡 Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent six days a week. When wolves are on the hunt, a kill rarely goes unnoticed for long. In the elk- and deer-rich areas of northern Yellowstone National Park, ravens are often among the first scavengers to arrive on the scene, swooping down to feast on scraps left behind by the howling canines.  Field biologists have long assumed that the birds simply follow wolves as they track and take down their prey. However, a study published today in the journal Science provides evidence that ravens may be remembering hunting hotspots and scavenging for food, rather than chasing wolves.  “Ravens are known for their remarkable intelligence,” Matthias-Claudio Loretto, a study co-author and wildlife ecologist at Austria’s University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, tells Popular Science. “They have excellent spatial memory and are very good at learning from experience. Our study suggests they use those abilities when scavenging. In other words, they’re not just opportunists—they’re planning where to search.” The study tracked about 70 common ravens (Corvus …

The feast before the fast … my pre-Lent indulgent recipes | Food

In terms of religious food festivals, this week is kind of a double whammy. First up was pancake day, which is always a whole-day affair in our kitchen, with both sweet and savoury stations, crepe pans and all the toppings (you can always rely on Felicity Cloake for a foolproof recipe). And, because of the way the calendars fall this year, we are also celebrating Orthodox Maslenitsa, or cheesefare, week at the same time. OK, so the sentiment is pretty much the same (it’s the week before the start of Lent, when people ease into their strict fasting period), but these two celebrations can often be weeks apart (blame the battle of the Gregorian and Julian calendars). For those of Orthodox faith, last week was all about eating meat, and this week is all about dairy. Essentially, you are trying to consume all the animal products and get them out of the house in preparation for the 40-plus-day fast. And, whether or not you are religious, in my book any tradition that means you get …

Shameless dine-and-dash pair ‘gorge on £170 feast’ | UK | News

The two men who allegedly ran off without paying their bill at Relentless Steak and Lobster House (Image: Scott Matthews / SWNS) A pair of diners allegedly gorged on £170-worth of seafood, including oysters, before scarpering – but not before they were captured on CCTV. Relentless – Steak and Lobster House in Portsmouth, Hants has been forced to bring in a ‘dine and dash’ defence after repeated incidents have been hit again by a pair who allegedly failed to pay for a £170 meal – including oysters. Owner Scott Matthews, 39, says his hand was forced after numerous incidents – including one where a group racked up an £800 bill before making off. However, Relentless has once again been targeted, with police called in after two men allegedly feasted on oysters and scallops before scarpering late last month. Food at Relentless Steak and Lobster House in Portsmouth, Hampshire (Image: Scott Matthews / SWNS) Scott claims the pair arrived at about 12.30pm on January 29 and placed their boozy lunch order. He says they pre-paid £130 …
