Former FedEx Driver Sentenced to Death for Killing 7-Year-Old Girl After Delivery at Her Texas Home

Former FedEx Driver Sentenced to Death for Killing 7-Year-Old Girl After Delivery at Her Texas Home

DALLAS (AP) — A former FedEx driver was sentenced to death on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to killing a 7-year-old girl he took from her Texas home while delivering a Christmas gift. Jurors in a Fort Worth courtroom decided on Tanner Horner’s punishment after hearing about a month of testimony and evidence that included audio of Athena Strand’s last moments from inside his delivery van. Horner, 34, pleaded guilty to capital murder last month in the 2022 killing just as his trial began. Athena’s body was found two days after she was reported missing from her home in the rural town of Paradise, near Fort Worth. Horner didn’t visibly react when the judge read the sentence, according to a livestream of the court proceedings. Jurors found there was a probability Horner would commit criminal violence and be a continuing threat to society. They said there was nothing in the commission of the crime or in Horner’s background to warrant life without parole instead of death. Prosecutor James Stainton told jurors in opening statements that …

FedEx, UPS Slide After Amazon Opens Freight Network To All Businesses

Shares of transportation and logistics giants FedEx and UPS dropped in premarket trading after Amazon debuted Amazon Supply Chain Services, opening its freight network to sellers far beyond the Amazon marketplace. Amazon said ASCS is a move to “open its freight, distribution, fulfillment, and parcel shipping capabilities to businesses of all types and sizes.” It gives companies outside the Amazon marketplace access to a global delivery network with two- to five-day delivery and 24/7 service. “With this launch, Amazon is expanding its third-party logistics capacity to support businesses in industries such as healthcare, automotive, manufacturing, and retail,” Amazon noted. Amazon said the move mirrors its AWS playbook: build infrastructure for its own operations, prove it internally, then sell it externally. This story may sound familiar. Amazon built another major offering—cloud infrastructure—for the same reason: to run its own business better. And then Amazon started selling it. That’s how Amazon Web Services (AWS) was born, and it’s transformed how the world builds and runs software. Now, Amazon is ready to do that for the supply chain. …

FedEx Seeks Tariff Refund With Lawsuit Against US

FedEx Seeks Tariff Refund With Lawsuit Against US

Authored by Jill McLaughlin via The Epoch Times, FedEx is suing the United States Feb. 23, seeking a full refund on President Donald Trump’s emergency tariffs after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled his use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) lacked authorization. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade, seeks to recoup all duties paid by FedEx as a result of IEEPA orders and any interest accrued, plus attorney’s fees. The Tennessee-based shipping giant focused its lawsuit mainly on the emergency tariffs imposed on Mexico, Canada, and China, and the 10 percent baseline tariff on all imports to the United States, which went into effect on April 5, 2025. In the Learning Resources v. Trump case, the Supreme Court ruled Feb. 20 that Trump’s tariffs violated the emergency powers law he invoked last year to impose levies on China, Canada, Mexico, and other countries. Tariffs enacted under other laws were not affected by the ruling. The president declared a national emergency under IEEPA starting on Feb. 1, 2025, to address …

Bess Adler | Bloomberg | Getty Images Federal Express on Monday sued the U.S. government, seeking a “full refund” of the money the shipping giant paid for tariffs unilaterally imposed last year by President Donald Trump, which the Supreme Court ruled last week were illegal. FedEx’s suit appears to be the first filed by a major American company seeking a refund for tariffs after Friday’s Supreme Court decision. Other companies filed lawsuits staking claims to their refunds before the high court ruled that the tariffs Trump imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act are illegal. Those suits, whose plaintiffs include retail warehouse club giant Costco, remain pending at the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York, the same court where FedEx filed its lawsuit. FedEx adds electric box vans to last-mile delivery fleet

Logistics and delivery giant FedEx is deploying 17 new electric box trucks in a move that advanced the company’s global electrification plans and Japan’s national climate targets, which focus on densely populated urban areas. FedEx’ new electric delivery fleet features a mix of Mitsubishi Fuso eCanter and Isuzu ELF medium duty trucks, each with a payload capacity of about 1.5 metric tonnes (~3300 lbs.). More than enough, in other words, to handle the package pickup and last-mile delivery needs of the company’s Japanese customers. “Our business strategy focuses on delivering reliable service to customers, and sustainability and efficiency are integral to how we operate. These new EVs will reduce emissions on high-density urban routes while helping us maintain the speed and quality our customers expect,” explains said Kei Alan Kubota, Managing Director of FedEx Japan. “We will continue to accelerate the adoption of low-emission technologies and contribute to cleaner air for local communities.” FedEx estimates that each electric truck will cut tailpipe emissions by roughly 3.3 metric tonnes per year compared with a diesel equivalent, …
