Inside the thousands of ADA lawsuits filed by an Orange County law firm

Inside the thousands of ADA lawsuits filed by an Orange County law firm

Anthony Bouyer has been on a suing spree around the San Fernando Valley. On Sept. 24, the 55-year-old internet marketer confronted a counter at a hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot that was difficult to reach over in his wheelchair. He sued the business for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. In L.A. County, it was at least his 231st case of the year. At the convenience store next door, he found a produce scale out of arm’s length. He sued them too. Two shops over at another Mexican spot, he noticed a cracked parking lot and cumbersome door hardware. Owner Elia Barraza was served a day before her 53rd birthday. “This person is just suing anyone,” said her still-fuming son, Steven Barraza. “It’s just for nitpicking things.” Lawsuits under the Americans with Disabilities Act — a federal civil rights law widely known as the ADA — have long flourished in California, where a unique state law enables payouts over various infractions. The money, advocates say, is one of the few surefire ways to get businesses to make …

Afroman Wins Lawsuit Filed By The Cops Who Raided His Home

According to Foreman, police confiscated a joint, a vape pen, and $5,031 in cash. (The latter was returned.) He was never charged. A spokesperson for the Adams County Prosecutor’s Office later admitted that the raid “failed to turn up probative criminal evidence.” “You shouldn’t kick people’s doors down over speculation, and you shouldn’t kick people’s doors down with an AR-15 over assumptions,” Foreman told Fox 19. In the wake of the event, Foreman says he thought about suing the police, but decided against it. “I asked myself, as a powerless Black man in America, what can I do to the cops that kicked my door in?” he asked NPR. “And the only thing I could come up with was make a funny rap song about them and make some money, use the money to pay for the damages they did and move on.” The result was Lemon Pound Cake, an album released by Afroman in 2022. Tracks such as “The Police Raid,” “Why You Disconnecting My Video Camera,” and the title song retold details of …

CFTC complaint filed after Kalshi’s Cardi B Super Bowl event decision – report

CFTC complaint filed after Kalshi’s Cardi B Super Bowl event decision – report

Kalshi users have been left outraged after a decision from the prediction market regarding Cardi B’s Super Bowl appearance. At least one Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has reportedly been filed after Kalshi’s controversial Super Bowl LX decision. Prediction market expert Dustin Gouker has shared that at least one person has filed a formal complaint to the CFTC. This may spark a review by the CFTC and possibly further investigation and penalties if deemed necessary. Depending on which prediction market was used, those who wagered on Cardi B making an appearance at the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show have had different outcomes. Polymarket settled the event contract in favor of those who bet that she would appear, but fellow prediction market Kalshi has invoked Rule 6.3 to only issue a partial settlement. This has triggered both outrage on social media and the formal complaint to the CFTC. Kalshi has cited ambiguity over whether Cardi B only appearing to dance qualifies as a performance, or whether she needed to actually sing. Kalshi’s controversial partial settlement on …

Here’s who filed to run in L.A.’s city election

While Los Angeles mayor is the marquee race and has already generated plenty of drama, with surprises coming down to the wire of last Saturday’s filing deadline, many other seats will also be contested in the June 2 primary. A host of candidates arrived at the City Clerk’s Office last week to file paperwork to run for city attorney, city controller, eight City Council seats and three L.A. Unified school board seats. For the record: 7:25 p.m. Feb. 8, 2026An earlier version of this story said two L.A. Unified school board seats were being contested in the June 2 primary. Three seats are open. Some may not get on the ballot — each candidate must gather 500 legitimate voter signatures by March 4, which is relatively easy in citywide races but harder in council and school board districts. In each race, if no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote in June, the top two finishers will compete in a November runoff. City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto is facing three challengers — deputy attorney …

Catawba Nation announces it has filed for state recognition in North Carolina, with a casino soon to open

The Catawba Nation Chief, Brian Harris, has taken to social media to share the latest vision for the federally recognized tribe in South Carolina. Harris starts by sharing the new introductions and improvements before noting that, unlike South Carolina, “believe it or not, we never applied to be state-recognized in North Carolina.” He continued to say they already have all the paperwork turned in and have done their due diligence, including giving the state everything they need. With this comes the opening of the tribe’s first satellite government office in North Carolina. The office in this new location aims to facilitate the tribe’s citizens in the state. Later in the video, where Brian Harris is sitting down to provide an insight into the upcoming happenings, he says the tribe will be submitting a number of legislation bills this year. This includes a bill for North Carolina, as well as another in South Carolina which Harris says the bill would propose “to give us, as the federal government promised us back in the day, a leg …

Number of civil lawsuits against sweepstakes operators filed in Alabama reaches over 40

An additional 21 class action gambling lawsuits were filed against multiple sweepstakes casino operators in Alabama on Monday (January 5), joining a number of filings in 2025 to bring the total number of civil actions brought against such platforms to more than 40 since the beginning of 2025. That makes Alabama the state with the highest number of such sweepstakes legal disputes. In court documents shared by gaming lawyer David Wallach, one of the 21 lawsuits filed is against Heuston Gaming and is defined as “a private attorney general action”, as it is only brought by one person. It seeks to gain money lost in gambling for the use of the family members of the gambler. 21 more gambling class action lawsuits were filed yesterday in Alabama against multiple sweepstakes casino operators, bringing the number of civil actions lodged against sweeps platforms in Alabama to well over 40 since the beginning of last year — more than any other state. pic.twitter.com/vw7DjD0dpi — Daniel Wallach (@WALLACHLEGAL) January 6, 2026 “The legislature has chosen to allow any …
