Officials did not release identifying information about either individual. “Further investigation shows the relative had discovered the juvenile was armed with a firearm and the relative dialed 911 while pinning the juvenile down,” the sheriff’s office said. The boy was en route to nearby Grand Prairie Elementary School to carry out a school shooting, authorities said. He was detained, and deputies recovered “a Glock handgun, a backpack which contained multiple loaded magazines, knives, an accelerant, gloves, and other items,” the sheriff’s office said. Why Kamala Harris’s Foiled Joe Rogan Interview Still Looms Large for Democrats

Why Kamala Harris’s Foiled Joe Rogan Interview Still Looms Large for Democrats

A representative for Harris referred V.F. to her comments on the Rogan dust-up in her recent book 107 Days. “Even though most of my team thought doing the interview at all was a gamble, and others bluntly argued it was a bad idea, I really wanted to do it,” Harris wrote, adding that it “came as a surprise” when her campaign found out that Rogan was interviewing Trump on a day that his team had described to hers as a personal day. Addressing the claim on his podcast, Rogan has said, “we just didn’t tell you that Trump was coming on” and that Harris “never agreed to do the show.” Representatives for the podcaster didn’t immediately return requests for comment. Flaherty, like so many Democrats in the aftermath of the election, has been reflecting on the nature of the modern attention economy, and what they could do to better harness it in the future. “Successful content on the internet is a reflection of an audience that already exists,” he says, “Joe Rogan is Joe Rogan …

ICE Foiled At Every Turn By One Vibe Coding Man In His Pickup Truck

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Vibe coding often gets a bad rep. “Vibe” is a euphemism for “not really thinking,” and that “not really thinking” part is accomplished by letting an AI spit all the code out in response to natural language prompts. Inexperienced programmers use it to push out half-baked apps and sabotage their own projects, and experienced ones get lulled into making rookie mistakes. Enter one man who’s putting AI coding tools to extremely good use: Rafael Concepcion, a second-generation immigrant and former professor at Syracuse University who’s made it his personal mission to foil Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to a new profile in Wired — a quest that would come at great personal cost, including his university job. Concepcion is behind a number mobile apps designed to counter ICE activities]. He started with an app to teach immigrants how to exercise their constitutional rights when approached by ICE agents. To build it, he heavily used AI tools like Cursor, …

Two new suspects arrested over foiled Bank of America bomb plot in Paris

French police have arrested two more people over an apparent bid to place a homemade explosive device outside the Paris headquarters of Bank of America, prosecutors told AFP on Sunday. How a patient stepped out for a vape and foiled a suicide bomber at Leeds hospital | UK News

Nathan Newby stepped outside a hospital for a vape and some fresh air on a winter night – but ended up talking down a suicide bomber after a simple act of kindness. This “extraordinary, ordinary man”, as a judge called him, is today being honoured with a George Medal, the UK’s second-highest civilian award for bravery. He spotted Mohammad Farooq looking upset and agitated outside St James’s Hospital in Leeds on 20 January 2023. He was there to commit mass murder at the entrance to the maternity wing, killing nurses and potentially patients too. “[He] seemed like he might want a chat or had some bad news, so I went over and asked how it were. And it just went from there really,” says Mr Newby. Farooq, a trainee nurse at the hospital, had a pressure cooker packed with 10kg of gunpowder in a bag and hoped to kill nurses by luring them outside with a bomb threat. MILAN — U.S. snowboarder Chloe Kim’s quest for a historic Olympic halfpipe three-peat was foiled by none other than her teenage protégé. Kim took home silver, after 17-year-old Gaon Choi of South Korea rebounded from a dramatic crash to overtake her in the final run. “It’s the kind of story you only see in dreams, so I’m incredibly happy it happened today,” Choi said afterward. Kim, 25, was within arm’s reach of becoming the first halfpipe snowboarder to win three consecutive Olympic golds. Despite a last-minute shoulder injury, she cruised easily through Wednesday’s qualifiers, which were actually her first competition of the season. And she was looking like a lock through much of Thursday’s …
