Tippi was a Hitchcock Blonde twice, appearing in The Birds and Marnie, which were released in 1963 and 1964, respectively. While Tippi played damsel in distress Melanie Daniels in The Birds, she had a more complex character in Marnie, playing Marnie Edgar, opposite the late Sean Connery. Despite enjoying her work on Marnie, Tippi endured a difficult working relationship with Alfred Hitchcock, explaining in 1973: “He was too possessive and too demanding. I cannot be possessed by anyone. But, then, that’s my own hangup.” Her co-star, Diane Baker later recalled that the director would prevent her from seeing anyone else while on set. Following an explosive argument, the director stopped her from acting for two years, keeping her under contract without giving her any roles. She made her return in 1967’s A Countess from Hong Kong, which was Charlie Chaplin’s final film, and she also made appearances in Satan’s Harvest, Roar, Dream On and The Ghost and the Whale, which was her final film appearance. Princess Caroline of Monaco certainly wasn’t going to miss the opening of Mariage du Siècle, the exhibition at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco dedicated to the ultimate royal wedding: that of her parents, Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly 70 years ago. Caroline wandered through the Palace’s exhibition halls alongside her daughter, Princess Alexandra of Hanover, and her brother, Prince Albert II of Monaco in a necklace steeped in sentiment. Caroline paired her all-white ensemble, a classic blouse and embroidered skirt by Chanel, with a heart-shaped pendant. The golden heart, dotted with small embedded gemstones is inscribed with the names of her parents — Grace and Rainier — along with her own, Caroline. Intertwined among the three is a large “R”: her father’s initial, and the letter shared by all three names. The exact origins of the pendant, worn on a thick gold chain, are unknown. Camille Gottlieb, the granddaughter of the iconic Hollywood actress-turned-Monaco royal Grace Kelly, has been channeling her late grandmother, sharing a series of stylish snaps from a recent vacation to the island of Mauritius.
