Walford’s prodigal son and original hard man Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) is returning to EastEnders later this month. Kemp last slipped on Grant’s leather jacket in February 2025 as part of the BBC soap’s 40th anniversary celebrations, when he briefly returned amid concerns about brother Phil’s (Steve McFadden) deteriorating mental health. He also shared scenes with Paul Bradley, who plays Grant’s old school mate Nigel Bates. Living with young-onset dementia, Nigel was offered a home at Grant’s villa in Portugal, though he chose to stay living with Phil. It was revealed earlier this year that, with Nigel’s health rapidly deteriorating, he would be lured back to support him once more. Spoilers for next week’s episodes show that estranged son Mark Fowler (Stephen Aaron-Sipple) is the one to put in the call to Grant, despite Sam’s (Kim Medcalf) reluctance to see her brother. Beckham was accompanied to the ceremony by his wife Victoria and his parents Sandra and Ted, while his three younger children Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 14, celebrated with him afterwards. A bust of Barbra Streisand and beautiful memories: Richard E Grant’s garden – in seven extraordinary items | Richard E Grant

Step into Richard E Grant’s garden in Richmond, London, and you’ll be met with a rather unconventional sight. Instead of the daffodils and tulips you’d usually find in an English garden at this time of year, Grant’s space is full of props and decorations from the films he’s starred in – from Saltburn to Carrie Cracknell’s 2022 adaptation of Persuasion. After any job, he says, “I go to the production department and try and buy or bribe my way” to get pieces to put in his garden. The space has, until now, been a private spot for Grant to entertain his actor friends. But now he has shared it with the world as part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s new podcast, Roots. I took a look around it – here are some of the weird and wonderful things that can be found there. Saltburn’s proscenium arch The colourful proscenium arch from Saltburn. .9M grant set to deepen understanding of avian flu

$1.9M grant set to deepen understanding of avian flu

With support from a recent federal grant, a team of Montana State University microbiologists will spend the next three years expanding and deepening research on avian flu. One of the world’s most damaging agricultural viruses, avian flu, will be studied using cutting-edge technologies and facilities at the university. Assistant professor Emma Loveday of the College of Agriculture’s Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology is the lead investigator of the research. “Knowing how infection differentially impacts cells can help us understand how the flu viruses grow, spread and propagate, which could open doors for treatment or prevention,” she said. Avian flu strains are causing huge losses Avian flu viruses are very diverse and originate in wild aquatic birds. HPAI strains, such as H5N1, are responsible for extensive economic losses to poultry producers, who must cull their flocks to contain the virus’s spread. In addition to the agricultural impact, over the past four years, H5N1 has caused lethal disease in wildlife across North and South America, and has caused over 70 human cases, though these remain rare. …

Reporter Estefany Rodriguez in ICE detention despite being bond grant

Reporter Estefany Rodriguez in ICE detention despite being bond grant

Estefany Rodriguez, the Nashville reporter who was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents earlier this month, remains in custody despite being granted bond. Her lawyer, Joel Coxander, said in a virtual news conference Monday that an immigration judge granted her release on bond, but that she must remain in a south Louisiana processing center while attorneys for ICE decide whether or not to appeal the decision. If the government lawyers decide to take action, Rodriguez would remain in detention while the appeal is processed. If no appeal is filed, she can be released by posting her $10,000 bond while her case moves through the court system. ICE has until the end of day Tuesday to decide if it will appeal. Rodriguez, who works for the local news network Nashville Noticias and Univision 42 Nashville, was detained on March 4 during a traffic stop outside of a gym while with her husband, Nashville Noticias reported in an official statement. “[Agents] demanded that our colleague be taken into custody for reasons that the legal team will …

Founder of Art School That Received M. NEH Grant: Artists Would Be ‘Wise’ to Be ‘Unpolitical’

Founder of Art School That Received $2 M. NEH Grant: Artists Would Be ‘Wise’ to Be ‘Unpolitical’

When the National Endowment of the Humanities announced in January its first round of grants since the start of President Donald Trump’s second term, one recipient stood out from the rest: Grand Central Atelier. Based in Queens, the New York art school was awarded $2 million, one of only a handful that exceeded $1 million to a single recipient. The school says that it promotes “art untouched by modernism” and teaches methods “rooted in traditions pre-dating the 19th century and the advent of photography.” Its founder, the realist painter Jacob Collins, has been an outspoken critic of modernism and avant-garde art; he was also a speaker at the National Conservatism Conference in Washington, D.C., in September. There he argued that American modernism was “an error” and that European abstraction complicated the “natural American empricism” that had existed in art prior. Now, in an interview with the New York Times, Collins says the school’s mission is to stay out of politics. “To say things aren’t politics—that’s just not true,” Collins said, in his first major comments …

High Point Museum HVAC Grant Canceled After ChatGPT Labeled It DEI, Lawsuit Says

A federal lawsuit alleges that a government initiative created by the Trump administration relied on the generative AI software ChatGPT to help identify grants tied to diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. The lawsuit alleges that a grant awarded to the High Point Museum in North Carolina to replace its HVAC system was flagged as related to DEI and subsequently canceled. According to a report by Fox 8 News, High Point received s $349,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to replace outdated climate-control equipment used to preserve its collections. The funding was later canceled after staff working for the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, reviewed grant proposals with the help of the AI chatbot. Related Articles The revelation surfaced in a lawsuit brought by the American Council of Learned Societies and the American Historical Association, which are challenging a broader wave of humanities grant cancellations. The groups argue that the cuts were unlawful and violated the First Amendment. DOGE was established by executive order in January 2025 and was tasked with reviewing federal spending across …
