“Never seen spending like this”: House Dems grill Vought on war spending

White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russel Vought faced harsh criticism over Iran War spending increases from a slew of Democratic lawmakers in the House on Wednesday. As the costs of the Iran War continue to rise, Vought faced an onslaught of questions about the Trump administration’s budgetary decisions. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-N.J., asked Vought if fighting “a war of choice” with Iran was more important than “economic development” in the U.S., including social welfare and education programs. Coleman chided Vought for being a part of a “narrative” around the war that “has nothing to do with reality.” “It’s not a war of choice,” Vought insisted. “It’s a security objective.” Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., pressed Vought on the “shocking surge of Pentagon spending” requested by the administration. “We have never seen funding like this,” Balint said, asking Vought if the asked-for $350 billion would “lower costs for Americans” while noting that the amount could fund the Affordable Care Act subsidies for a decade. Vought responded by praising Trump for having “led on …

Traeger Just Launched Its Most Affordable Full-Sized Pellet Grill

Traeger Just Launched Its Most Affordable Full-Sized Pellet Grill

Pellet grill converts aren’t shy about their love for these versatile outdoor cookers, and many, including CNET, regard Traeger as the best in the booming alternative-grill category. Traeger’s pellet grills allow for precise temperature control via convection heat, easy low-and-slow cooking with minimal oversight and wood-fired flavor you won’t get from gas or charcoal setups. But they aren’t cheap. A full-sized Traeger typically costs the would-be pellet griller about $1,000, but the brand just launched its most budget-friendly line, the Westwood series, ahead of summer 2026. That means you can haul in one of Traeger’s cult-favorite pellet grills with most of its signature bells and whistles for less than $700. Pellet grills are praised for delivering woodfire flavor and precise temperature control. Traeger The new standard Westwood has 653 square inches of grilling space and sells for $699. The XL sports 823 square inches and will cost you $799 — still cheaper than any other large grill in the Traeger lineup. Until now, the cheapest full-sized Traegers, the Ridgewood series, started at $899. The Westwood series builds on the advanced …

Home Depot Spring Black Friday (2026): Best Tool and Grill Deals

Home Depot Spring Black Friday (2026): Best Tool and Grill Deals

Words have no meaning when Black Friday falls in April and lasts two weeks. Originally coined to denote the pandemonium and chaos when holiday shopping met football games after Thanksgiving, Black Friday has come to blankly mean “discounts whenever.” And so when The Home Depot says they’ve got a “Spring Black Friday” sale going, what they seem to be trying to say is that springtime might as well be Christmas for the DIY and backyard set. It’s when you buy stuff. Except probably for yourself. Anyway, most of this sale is not a barn-burner. But Home Depot loves a BOGO tool sale on the Milwaukee tools used and recommended by WIRED tester Scott Gilbertson. And Weber grills are $50 to $100 off, including a couple of WIRED’s favorite grills on earth. Here are the deals WIRED is tracking on the Home Depot Black Friday Spring Sale, ending April 22. Or just check out the whole Home Depot Black Friday deals below. $50 off the Best Gas Grill for Most Families Weber Spirit E-210 Gas Grill …

Democrats grill Treasury chief Bessent at House oversight hearing

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent sparred with Democratic members of the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday, with one calling him a “flunky” for failing to criticize investment from United Arab Emirates officials in the Trump family’s cryptocurrency venture. Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., probed Bessent on alleged conflicts of interest and lack of transparency related to World Liberty Financial, which was co-founded by Trump’s family members. “When a foreign-linked investor is putting hundreds of millions of dollars into a company controlled by the president’s family, and at the same time, this president is conducting foreign policy with that country … it creates a national security concern,” Meeks said. Meeks asked Bessent to commit to a complete investigation into the “conflicts of interest and foreign influence” and to pause any bank charter or licensing applications at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, an independent arm of the Treasury that regulates banks. “The OCC is an independent entity,” Bessent said, over the shouts of Meeks, without addressing the topic further. “Stop covering for the president.
