U.S. hits bridges and energy targets, Iran says, as strikes widen

The U.S. military struck bridges and energy infrastructure in Iran overnight Friday, Iranian state media said, while Kuwaiti authorities said that Iranian attacks hit a power and desalination plant. The attacks followed days of warnings by President Donald Trump and Iranian officials, who have since last week brought the region back to the precipice of all-out war, following a failed memorandum of understanding for a peace agreement that they signed last month. Jeremy Clarkson Hits Back After Chris Packham Slates Clarkson's Farm On Gogglebox

Jeremy Clarkson Hits Back After Chris Packham Slates Clarkson's Farm On Gogglebox

Jeremy Clarkson Jeremy Clarkson has responded after TV presenter Chris Packham made recent digs at his show, Clarkson’s Farm. In his latest column for The Sun, the former Top Gear star addressed Packham’s comments about Clarkson’s Farm, which he’d made on Celebrity Gogglebox earlier this month. While watching Clarkson’s docuseries’ opening titles, the naturalist and Springwatch host insisted: “Already, right, that’s not what a farm looks like. “Most farms are horrible monocultures which have been sprayed with deadly chemicals, time and time again, the ground pumped full of fertiliser, and loads of the animals are indoors – in crates, being crushed and kept in the dark.” He added: “That’s an idealistic view of a farm, and it puts the wrong idea in people’s minds. And that’s only the titles!” Clarkson had his say on the matter in his latest column, writing: “The endlessly angry Chris Packham went on Gogglebox this week and erupted in blind fury about the Winnie the Pooh-ish opening credits to my farming programme. “Now, of course this kind of stuff plays well in a room full …

Apple Stock Hits Record Territory as Traders Sour on AI Spending

Apple Stock Hits Record Territory as Traders Sour on AI Spending

Apple shares have rallied 15 percent since their worst day on the stock market in more than a year, adding almost $600 billion in value since June 25 and returning the stock to record territory (via Bloomberg). The rebound comes as investors grow uneasy about the mind-boggling sums of cash continually being poured into the AI data center buildout, despite there being no obvious indicator for when investors will get a return on their investment. Apple’s decision to sit out the data center spending spree and instead pay Google for access to its frontier AI models is being increasingly seen by traders as an asset rather than a liability. Apple is using Google’s Gemini to underpin the revamped version of Siri and new Apple Intelligence features across its platforms. Apple’s WWDC presentation last month of upcoming AI features in iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate initially sent the stock lower, but it has since rebounded in impressive fashion. The rally has occurred in spit of the fact that Apple is facing pressure from soaring memory …

Korean Air Q2 profit falls 34% on higher fuel costs, revenue hits record high

HONG KONG, July 13 : Korean Air Lines reported a 34 per cent drop in second-quarter operating profit on Monday, as surging fuel costs weighed on earnings despite the carrier posting record revenue for the quarter. • The South Korean flag carrier said operating profit for the April-June period fell to 261.8 billion won ($174.52 million) from 398.9 billion won a year earlier. • Revenue climbed to a 5.02 trillion won, up 26 per cent year-on-year, a record for the second quarter. • Passenger revenue rose about 19 per cent year-on-year to 2.85 trillion won in the second quarter. • Stronger inbound tourism and rising transit demand, partly fuelled by geopolitical disruptions in the Middle East, helped offset a softening in outbound travel from South Korea amid higher oil prices. • Cargo revenue surged about 46 per cent year-on-year to 1.54 trillion won, driven by robust demand tied to global artificial intelligence investments and strong exports of South Korean beauty products. • Korean Air said it expected passenger demand to rebound in the third quarter, …

200 campers rescued as flooding hits Missouri, Kentucky : NPR

Ann DeField is grateful her two sons and their fellow campers are home safe after they were evacuated from a Missouri summer camp that became flooded during severe weather across the central U.S. this week. Benjamin, 11 years old and Teddy, 9, were among the more than 200 children and counselors who were airlifted from Camp Taum Sauk on Friday in Lesterville, Mo., after the region saw historic rainfall. Eight UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters crewed by about 35 members of the Missouri National Guard rescued them from dangerous floodwaters, according to Gov. Mike Kehoe’s office — flying them to a nearby elementary school where they were reunited with family. DeField told NPR that her sons were at a week-long camp program for nearly a week when she got texts from other concerned moms on Friday morning about flash flooding at the camp overnight. She said she had also been notified by the camp that children had moved to higher ground and in the afternoon were being evacuated by Black Hawk helicopters. “It was a whirlwind,” …
