Houston Changes Ordinance Limiting Cooperation With ICE After Pressure From Governor

HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston city ordinance that limited police officers’ cooperation with federal immigration agents was amended on Wednesday after Texas’ governor threatened to take away millions of dollars in public safety grants. Houston, as well as Austin and Dallas — three of the state’s biggest cities and Democratic strongholds — are being confronted by GOP Gov. Greg Abbott with threats of losing public safety dollars over policies that dictate how law enforcement interacts with federal immigration authorities. The three cities are being threatened with the loss of about $200 million in public safety funding, including tens of millions expected to cover security at World Cup matches this summer in Dallas and Houston. Two weeks ago, Houston City Council passed the ordinance, which eliminated a requirement that Houston police officers wait 30 minutes for agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to pick up someone with a nonjudicial administrative warrant. If ICE agents didn’t show up in time, police officers took a detained person’s information and then released them. But Abbott warned city …

Kash Patel defamation lawsuit against Figliuzzi dismissed

Daniel Heuer | Bloomberg | Getty Images A Houston federal court judge on Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit by FBI Director Kash Patel alleging that former FBI official Frank Figliuzzi defamed him by saying Patel last year had “been visible at nightclubs far more than he has been on the seventh floor of” the bureau’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. “The Court finds that Figliuzzi’s statement is rhetorical hyperbole that cannot constitute defamation,” U.S. District Court Judge George Hanks Jr. wrote in his decision. “Accordingly, Dir. Patel has failed to state a claim against Figliuzzi, and his lawsuit must be dismissed.” The dismissal came a day after Patel filed an unrelated $250 million defamation lawsuit in D.C. federal court against The Atlantic magazine over a new article that alleged he has abused alcohol. While ruling on the key question of defamation in Figliuzzi’s favor, the judge denied his request …

Tesla brings its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston

Tesla brings its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston

Tesla is expanding its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston, according to a social media post from the company. The post says simply that “Robotaxi is now rolling out in Dallas & Houston 🤠” and includes a 14-second video showing Tesla vehicles driving without human monitors or drivers in the front seat. The company now offers robotaxi service in three cities, all of them in Texas, after launching in Austin last year and starting to offer rides without safety drivers in January 2026. In a February filing, Tesla said that its Austin robotaxis have been involved in 14 crashes since launch. It also offers a more limited ride service with human drivers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Tesla may not be running many vehicles in either of these new markets yet, with crowdsourced data on the Robotaxi Tracker website only registering a single vehicle in each city (compared to 46 active vehicles logged in Austin). Tesla expands robotaxi service to Dallas, Houston

April 18 : Tesla is rolling out its robotaxis in Dallas and Houston, the electric vehicle maker said on Saturday, marking further expansion of its nascent service in the United States since its Austin, Texas, launch last year. Tesla’s official robotaxi account on X announced the launch and posted two videos showing its best-selling Model Y SUVs running in the two cities with no human driver or monitor in the front seats. It posted two map images outlining service boundaries, but did not disclose further details such as fleet size or pricing. “Try Tesla Robotaxi in Dallas & Houston!” CEO Elon Musk said reposting the X post. Tesla’s move comes as the robotaxi business has regained momentum with Alphabet’s Waymo and Amazon’s Zoox speeding up expansion.  Expanding the robotaxi service and wider adoption of its full self-driving software, a version of which underpins the technology, is key to Tesla’s growth strategy as Musk has pivoted the company’s focus to artificial intelligence and robotics from EVs. Much of the company’s $1.3 trillion valuation hinges on that …

Tesla launches ‘Robotaxi’ in Houston and Dallas with tiny geofences

Tesla announced today that its “Robotaxi” service is now rolling out in Dallas and Houston, marking the company’s first expansion beyond Austin and San Francisco. The company shared maps of the two new service areas, which appear to cover small slices of each city. The Houston geofence covers approximately 25 square miles, according to early user analysis of the maps, while the Dallas zone appears to center around the Highland Park area. For context, Tesla’s Austin geofence has grown to roughly 245 square miles after months of gradual expansion — but that took nearly a year to reach from an initial 20-square-mile footprint. Tesla’s official @robotaxi account on X posted the announcement with two map images showing the service boundaries, but provided no details on fleet size, whether rides will be supervised or unsupervised, or pricing. The post simply read: “Robotaxi now rolling out in Dallas & Houston.” What we know — and what’s missing The announcement is notably thin on specifics. Tesla did not disclose how many vehicles will operate in each city, whether …

You can find a lot of random things for sale on Facebook Marketplace: vintage collectibles, oversized teeth in a suitcase, and even a World War I shipwreck. Now bargain hunters can get their hands on a 2002 Houston METRO bus for the low, low price of $2,800. Software developer Julius Jones and a friend purchased the bus at an auction in 2017. Jones told ABC 13 that he sold the vehicle to a man who planned to renovate it, but the man reportedly later returned the bus, blaming it for breaking up his marriage. So while it might seem like a good deal, it could be cursed. Former METRO bus listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace “When buses are decommissioned, METRO removes all onboard equipment and identifying information, including bus numbers and most exterior decals, before the vehicle is disposed of in accordance with federal requirements,” a spokesperson for METRO Houston told ABC 13. “In some cases, larger exterior …

Beth Moore to end Living Proof events in 2027

(RNS) — Bible teacher and bestselling author Beth Moore announced Thursday (March 5) that her ministry will stop holding large-scale Living Proof events in 2027. The decision to end Living Proof Ministries events, which feature Moore’s Bible teaching and worship music, will coincide with her 70th birthday. She plans to continue speaking and writing but will no longer host events. “Though it may sound like retirement, unless the Lord wills it, it’s meant to actually delay retirement, making the best use of my remaining energies in the last chapter of ministry,” Moore, the founder of Living Proof Ministries in Houston, said in a video announcement. For decades, Moore taught at stadiums and megachurches and sold millions of Bible studies and books, in a remarkable career that started when she began teaching a Bible study at a church in Houston. One of her studies, “A Woman’s Heart: God’s Dwelling Place,” wound up in the hands of an editor at Lifeway, the Southern Baptist Convention publishing arm, which led to a publishing deal that lasted for decades and …
