Daily Mash removed from Facebook as platform ‘struggles with humour’

One of the Daily Mash stories that saw the page penalised on Facebook, along with a banner on the website that explains the Facebook issue. Satirical newsbrand The Daily Mash has been banned from Facebook for almost four months after the platform “struggled to understand humour”. The Daily Mash, owned by publisher Digitalbox, had its page with one million followers completely removed from Facebook on 1 February after three posts were flagged for a supposed breach of community standards. The stories were: – Six ways to get through three weeks of Jubilee wank (which mentions drugs in two paragraphs) – Women allowed to take cocaine if it ruins their life and they beg for forgiveness, says Daily Mail – ‘Rather than buying and posting Christmas cards, we are spending the money on drugs’ Each of the stories were years old and had previously been posted without issue to the Facebook page, but when they were each posted again starting in December they were flagged as a breach of Facebook’s community standards on drugs. What humour means to older people – and why some find it hard to keep on laughing

For many older people, humour can be a lifeline. It’s not easy to discuss the challenges of ageing – from loneliness and the loss of a loved one to dealing with chronic pain. But laughter can be an invaluable way of opening up about how hard life sometimes feels. “I struggle to get round at times, but I have to,” a 72-year-old man told me during my research with colleagues into older people’s experiences of humour. “If I didn’t laugh at myself, I’d cry.” Past research has suggested that cognitive decline can reduce older people’s ability to be funny. King Charles shows off his sense of humour with witty feature at favourite home, Highgrove House

Queen Elizabeth II was praised for her sense of humour by friends, family and those lucky enough to see her behind the scenes, and it seems as though she has passed down this trait to His Majesty King Charles III. In a new Prime Video documentary, Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision, which will be airing on 6 February, the monarch has revealed a witty feature inside the grounds of Highgrove House.  His beloved Tetbury home has been a labour of love for years and in the garden there’s a chicken coop cleverly named, Cluckingham Palace. He is seen feeding the chickens and collecting eggs inside, during downtime at his estate. Charles’ flock are rescue chickens, and back in 2024, he rehomed the one millionth hen rescued by the British Hen Welfare Trust, calling her Henrietta. At the time, the BBC reported that the hen was transported to Highgrove in a special chicken carrier called ‘Hengrove’ – proving the puns continue! © Photo: Getty ImagesThis image was part of a set released to mark His Royal Highness’s …
