Valve uploads ‘secret’ unboxing – is Steam Controller launch imminent?

As spotted by Brad Lynch on X, Valve pushed an update to Steam that included an unboxing video of the Steam Controller. The Catch? Said video is encrypted and cannot be watched, but the filename gives it away. The unboxing will no doubt show the contents of the box, which also include a puck-like dongle to connect and charge the Steam Controller. It may also go into details of how to set the controller up, and show off its versatility when it comes to games that traditionally require mouse input. Want to see this content? Is a super El Niño imminent, and what could the impacts be?

Is a super El Niño imminent, and what could the impacts be?

A super El Niño led to flooding in China in 1998 ROBYN BECK/AFP via Getty Images In the past month, weather models have begun to show that a very strong El Niño climate phase could develop later this year, potentially the strongest we have ever seen. Many are calling this a “super El Niño” or even a “Godzilla El Niño”. It could bring droughts to some areas of the world, floods to others and set the planet up for the hottest year on record. “The forecast from now is warming faster in the tropical Pacific than at any other time so far this century,” says Adam Scaife at the Met Office, the UK’s national weather service. “So something unusual is going on.” What is a Super El Niño? El Niño is a natural climate pattern that raises temperatures and disrupts weather around the world. It typically happens when the trade winds blowing east to west over the tropical Pacific weaken, reducing the upwelling of deep cold water and allowing warm surface water to slosh back …

Imminent SpaceX IPO Filing Ignites Rally Across Space-Linked Stocks

News that SpaceX may file an initial public offering prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Commission this week or next sparked a rally across SpaceX-linked names, satellite broadband providers, space transportation firms, and even publicly traded closed-end funds that hold private SpaceX shares. The Information reports that SpaceX is set to file an IPO prospectus with the SEC this week or next, with plans for shares to begin trading on U.S. exchanges sometime in June. Wall Street advisers expect the offering to be the largest ever in the U.S., generating $75 billion for the space company leading the world’s rocket race and propelling the U.S. to the number one spot. The company’s final valuation and deal size would be set closer to the listing, but as of right now, the total market capitalization is north of $1 trillion. Bankers are expected to pitch the SpaceX IPO to clients around three themes: its rocket-launch business, which has become a revenue driver; its rapidly expanding Starlink satellite internet business; and its prospects as a provider of orbital …

Sketchy Polymarket Accounts Making Suspicious Bets on Imminent Iran Ceasefire

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Earlier this year, highly suspicious accounts on crypto-based prediction platform Polymarket collected a hefty $400,000 after correctly predicting the time of US attacks on Venezuela and the kidnapping of its president — a scandal highlighting major concerns over insider trading running rampant on the platform. Now, a slew of new Polymarket accounts are betting big on an imminent ceasefire between the US and Iran, placing bets of almost $70,000 for a deal being reached before March 31, as The Guardian reports. The conflict, which doesn’t appear to have a clearly-defined goal, has thrown global trade into chaos, with oil prices and stocks going on a rollercoaster ride, as investors respond to president Donald Trump’s public flip-flopping over his threat to strike Iranian power plants. While we don’t know whether the anonymous Polymarket accounts, all of which appear to be less than a week old, have access to inside information regarding the Trump administration’s talks with Iranian officials, the …

I have stage four cancer – there will be no cure, but death isn’t necessarily imminent: this is how it feels to live in the long middle | Death and dying

Mornings begin with a silent inventory, conducted in the dark before the curtains are drawn: can I breathe easily today? The question is stripped of all poetic veneer. When you have stage four lung cancer, breath is no longer a background process; it is a finite currency I must spend with the caution of a miser. It dictates the architecture of my day, the borders of my energy and the very cadence of my speech. I am not a “survivor” in the triumphalist sense of the word, nor am I imminently dying. I occupy the long middle – a rarely charted territory where the body remains fragile, treatment constant, and life does not so much move forward as stubbornly persist. This liminal state is a distinctly modern byproduct of a medical revolution. In the UK, barely a decade ago, a stage four lung cancer diagnosis was a grim cliff edge; when the NHS standard was rooted in traditional chemotherapy, long-term survival remained in the single figures. Today, the momentum of clinical progress, driven by the …

More Bark Than Bite: Kaine’s War Powers Resolution Is An ‘Imminent’ Failure

More Bark Than Bite: Kaine’s War Powers Resolution Is An ‘Imminent’ Failure

Authored by Jonathan Turley, We now have a glimpse of the War Powers Resolution promised by Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.), which is reportedly scheduled for a vote in the Senate today or Wednesday. The resolution purportedly ends all combat operations against Iran … until you reach the very end where there is a hole that you could drive a combat task force through. I respect members asserting their inherent constitutional authority. I have long criticized the lack of declarations of war as demanded by the Framers. We have not had a formal declaration of war since World War II. However, courts and Congress have long deferred to presidents in the conduct of such operations. I represented congressional members challenging the Libyan war operation launched by President Barack Obama. Most Democratic members were entirely silent when Obama (and President Joe Biden) exercised such authority against different countries. Notably, the Libyan operation clearly sought regime change without an imminent threat to the United States. Some of those members are now the loudest condemning President Donald Trump …

M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro Launch Imminent as Reseller Stock Dwindles

M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro Launch Imminent as Reseller Stock Dwindles

New M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models are slated to launch in the near future, according to information shared with MacRumors by an Apple Premium Reseller. The third-party Apple retailer said that ‌MacBook Pro‌ stock is very low currently because there is an imminent new product introduction. Apple typically coordinates supply with retail stores ahead of a new model launch to avoid leaving resellers with too many outdated machines. Over the weekend, Bloomberg said that the new MacBook Pros are going to launch alongside macOS Tahoe 26.3 during the February/March timeframe, and we are getting closer to the software’s release date. Today’s Xcode 26.3 release candidate launch also suggests that a debut isn’t far off. It’s atypical for Apple to introduce an Xcode release candidate without also providing iOS and macOS release candidates, and we haven’t seen the iOS 26.3 or macOS 26.3 RCs yet. Holding back a macOS release candidate is sometimes an indication that the RC contains information that Apple doesn’t want to leak. If the M5 Pro and M5 Max …

UN faces ‘imminent financial collapse,’ Guterres says

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York, on January 29, 2026. EDUARDO MUNOZ / REUTERS United Nations (UN) chief Antonio Guterres on Friday, January 30, warned that the world body is on the brink of financial collapse, urging countries to pay their dues. “Either all Member States honor their obligations to pay in full and on time – or Member States must fundamentally overhaul our financial rules to prevent an imminent financial collapse,” the secretary-general wrote in a letter. United States President Donald Trump’s administration has, in recent months, reduced its funding to some UN agencies and has rejected or delayed some mandatory contributions. “Decisions not to honour assessed contributions that finance a significant share of the approved regular budget have now been formally announced,” Guterres wrote, adding: “The current trajectory is untenable. It leaves the Organization exposed to structural financial risk.” The UN has faced chronic liquidity problems for years because some member states do not pay their mandatory contributions in full, and others do not pay on time, forcing it into hiring …

WW3 imminent as Russia reveals what would push Putin to use nuclear weapons

A top Kremlin official, in charge of Russia’s foreign and defence Policy, has urged Vladimir Putin to ‘use nuclear weapons and finish’ the UK and Europe. This latest threat of nuclear Armageddon comes after the UK announced it would be deploying 1,500 Royal Marines to the Arctic and High North region amid rising tensions with both Russia and within NATO. Sergey Karaganov, who chairs Russia’s Council for Foreign and Defence Policy, cautioned that if NATO backing delivered a Ukrainian victory, Putin “would use nuclear weapons and Europe would be finished physically.” Speaking with right-wing American commentator Tucker Carlson, Karaganov also made the rare decision to criticise his own government, accusing it of being “too patient” with European nations.
