The toy maker is launching Blooms by Play-Doh, a new line of craft kits designed for adults as it works to expand the iconic brand beyond its traditional audience, the company announced Thursday. Instead of molding toy food or imaginary creatures, users create decorative floral arrangements to be displayed. Starting at $24.99, the kits are now sold at Amazon, Target and Walmart, with select products launching on TikTok Shop July 16, Business Wire reports. The kits mark Hasbro’s biggest push yet into the growing “kidult” market, tapping into demand for creative, stress-relieving hobbies. The launch also supports the company’s “Playing to Win” strategy, unveiled in 2025, which aims to expand its brands …

The Download: introducing the Engineering issue

Sometimes the challenges we face are giant, like tunneling beneath the seafloor. Some exist at the nanoscale, as with a new ASML machine powering the future of chipmaking. Others represent problems at a planetary scale and in truly unknown territory, like replicating a volcano’s mechanism to cool the Earth on purpose. These incredible engineering stories show we can come together to get to work and, when the smoke clears, find we’ve made real progress. Subscribe now to read all of them—and more—in the full print issue. Stripe, Anthropic, and OpenAI are backing an effort to stop respiratory infections The common cold comes for us all—often more than once a year. And there is no way to prevent it. The best you can do is take vitamin C and stay away from people with the sniffles. Now, the payment company Stripe is funding a new $500-million nonprofit aiming to prevent both the common cold and the flu. Its eventual goal is to get rid of respiratory viruses altogether. Anthropic, OpenAI, and Bill Gates have also backed …

Introducing New Balance’s Viral Snoafer Sequel: The Snoccassin

Introducing New Balance’s Viral Snoafer Sequel: The Snoccassin

There was a time when sneakers knew their place. Then they started creeping into loafer territory, before promptly seizing the mule market. And now, New Balance has gone and fused their dadly runners with moccasins—or should we call them snocassins? No, we’re not entirely sure how we got here either. But considering the Boston sportswear giant helped kickstart the sneaker-loafer craze last year with the viral 1906L, it’s probably worth paying attention. The New Balance 1890A was first spotted during Paris Fashion Week back in January, and reactions were split right down the middle. Some sneakerheads weren’t entirely sure what they were looking at. Others wanted a pair immediately. That’s usually a good sign. New Balance 1890A ‘Morel’ New Balance While most brands prefer to debut new silhouettes in relatively safe color combinations before getting more adventurous later on, NB has gone in the complete opposite direction. For its first outing, the 1890A arrives in a pale greenish-yellow leather finished with a faux snakeskin texture. It’s very loud and arguably one of the rowdiest New …

Did Taylor Swift just predict 2026’s most controversial trend? Introducing slit jeans

Did Taylor Swift just predict 2026’s most controversial trend? Introducing slit jeans

“Did you buy them like that or did you rip them yourself?” The age-old question put to trend-led Gen Z by puzzled boomers. Abhorred by grannies and beloved by street style aficionados, of course, we’re talking about ripped jeans.  The deconstructed denim bottoms have flip-flopped in and out of fashion, making their mark most prominently in the 2010s. During this period, Topshop’s ripped Jamie jeans reigned supreme – every step allowing for rebellious flashes of (then-cellulite free) flesh.  But it seems there has been a recent development in the garment’s evolution. Courtesy of one Taylor Swift, ripped options have been budged out of first place in the rankings for pensioner-repelling pieces – usurped by ‘slit jeans.’ © Getty ImagesAlana Haim, Este Haim, Taylor Swift, and Mariska Hargitay attend the NBA Allow us to explain. Beyond Instagram: Introducing the next generation of social apps

Beyond Instagram: Introducing the next generation of social apps

For years, our social media experiences have been dominated by Big Tech players like Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), Google (YouTube), Snapchat, TikTok, and X. But a growing number of startups are taking aim at these giants by building new, often smaller and more personal social networking experiences to connect people with friends, interests, and tighter-knit communities. If you’re looking for a way to extricate yourself from the grip of traditional social media and Big Tech products in general, there are a number of interesting alternatives available. Many of them cater to Gen Z and younger, a group that’s often more willing to build their social networks within new spaces compared to people with well-established networks that sit on aging platforms. Below are some of our favorites, all of which are worth a download. Retro Image Credits:Romain Dillet / TechCrunch Retro is a thoughtfully designed photo-sharing app focused on building connections with friends in a more private format. Created by two former Instagram team members, Nathan Sharp and Ryan Olson, the app offers simple ways to …

why introducing non-native species in rewilding projects can be a good idea

why introducing non-native species in rewilding projects can be a good idea

White storks (Ciconia ciconia) are a majestic bird with a two-metre wingspan and an enormous circular nest. The recent release of these stunning birds at multiple sites in England, with more releases planned and a public consultation under way has kicked off a debate about whether non-native birds should be part of rewilding projects. The government advising body Natural England says it does not consider white storks to be native birds. But some experts disagree and say it is a native species and was hunted into extinction in the 1400s. What is a native species? In the UK, native species are those which have been present throughout the last 12,000 years. This includes migratory species which breed in or visit the UK. It also includes species which have been eradicated by humans but reintroduced. In England, a license is needed to introduce any species which is not ordinarily resident, or a regular visitor, to England. This is partly because these species could become invasive, a term used when a species cause substantial environmental or socioeconomic …

Picture Books Introducing Literary Legends to Young Readers

Picture Books Introducing Literary Legends to Young Readers

Picture books are the best way to get kids excited about reading. But these picture books go one step further and will get them excited about important authors. These five, relatively recently published picture books feature the true stories of literary legends. Some of the biographical picture books describe authors of children’s books, like Judy Blume, A.A. Milne, and the lesser-known—but equally legendary—Virginia Hamilton. The other two books feature the stories of Mary Oliver and Toni Morrison, who wrote primarily for adults. But they all celebrate books and the creative process. Because these books don’t just introduce young readers and listeners to five literary legends. They also celebrate writing, storytelling, and the importance of every person finding their own voice. So to be entertained, educated, and inspired, pick up one, or all, of the following books. Otherwise Known as Judy the Great: A Poetic Ode to Judy Blume by Selina Alko Judy Blume is a beloved and bestselling author of books for kids and adults. Her books have sold over 80 million copies all around …
