Robert Jenrick’s Flaw In Migration Attack On Burnham Exposed

Robert Jenrick’s Flaw In Migration Attack On Burnham Exposed

Robert Jenrick’s attack on Andy Burnham’s pro-migration stance has one rather substantial problem: the Reform MP’s own time in office. Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester, is hoping to be selected as Labour’s candidate in the upcoming Makerfield by-election. If victorious in the selection process and at the Makerfield ballot box, Burnham is expected to try and oust Keir Starmer from No.10. But Reform won all eight wards in the constituency during the local election earlier this month – and so the party is already trying to demolish the mayor’s reputation. In a social media video, Jenrick claimed: “If Burnham wins, a million low skilled migrants will be allowed to stay and get British citizenship in the next few years. “And he won’t stop the boats. Instead he will put them in bedsits on your street. To pay for it all? He’ll have to hike your taxes.” If Burnham wins, a million low skilled migrants will be allowed to stay and get British citizenship in the next few years. And he won’t stop the boats. …

Robert Jenrick’s Tense Reunion With Tory MP Live On TV

Robert Jenrick’s Tense Reunion With Tory MP Live On TV

Robert Jenrick had a very tense reunion with one of his onetime Conservative colleagues on live TV on Friday as they argued over his painful defection to Reform. Jenrick, who is now Reform’s Treasury spokesperson, was celebrating his party’s success on the BBC after it won more than 400 seats in the local elections in England. But he was sat next to Victoria Atkins, the Conservatives’ shadow environment secretary – and she quickly got personal. “Robert and I haven’t actually spoken to each other since I supported his leadership [bid to take over the Tories],” the MP for Louth and Horncastle said. “So I’m surprised he’s so quick to can all of the work he did in the government when he was immigration minister, but also the work that we were trying to do since the general election in order to rebuild.” She pointed out that Jenrick was also “part of the team that made those mistakes” when the Conservatives were in government. He hit back that the public’s “trust is completely and utterly gone” …

Badenoch and Starmer are the winners from Robert Jenrick’s dismal Tory betrayal

Badenoch and Starmer are the winners from Robert Jenrick’s dismal Tory betrayal

Given that Robert Jenrick was pushed before he got the chance to jump across to Reform UK at a time and in a fashion of his own choosing, he and his new party leader decided that they may as well get on with it and face the media. Indeed, Nigel Farage, in ironic jest, even thanked Kemi Badenoch for revealing their slow-moving bromance as if she’d played Cupid at this impromptu political wedding – she had brought the happy couple together, he suggested, and, joshing as ever, he offered to buy her lunch in return. It all sounded a little strained, as so much of Mr Farage’s jocularity often is. That, however, was about as sweet as things got in the pair’s impromptu press conference. Mr Jenrick was far more bitter and twisted about his old colleagues than, say, the urbane Nadhim Zahawi had been a few days before. Not only did he make a long, and predictable, statement about “broken Britain”: he launched, with the most cursory of courtesies, violent attacks on Sir Mel …

‘No tears’ in Tory party over Jenrick’s departure, ex-Scottish Conservative leader says | Politics News

There have been “no tears” shed over Robert Jenrick’s departure from the Conservative Party, former Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson has said. Speaking to Sky News political editor Beth Rigby on the Electoral Dysfunction podcast, Baroness Davidson said she thinks there will even be a “mini bounce” within the Tories over how Kemi Badenoch handled his defection to Reform on Thursday. The Conservative leader sacked Mr Jenrick from her shadow cabinet and ousted him from the Tory party after being shown a speech he planned to – then did – make as he defected to Nigel Farage’s party. “Not a lot of people [in the Tory party] are that sad that Robert Jenrick’s gone,” she said. “I mean, that might well be just because nobody likes to think well of somebody that left you, but I mean, no tears, crying.” 👉 Click here to follow Electoral Dysfunction wherever you get your podcasts 👈 Image: Ruth Davidson said no tears have been shed over Robert Jenrick’s sacking Ms Badenoch was defiant moments before Mr Jenrick announced …

Politics Home Article | How Robert Jenrick’s Defection Unfolded

4 min read2 hr Robert Jenrick’s decision to ditch the Tories for Reform UK has sent shockwaves through British politics. On Thursday morning, Westminster, including the vast majority of the Conservative Party, was stunned when Kemi Badenoch announced on X that she had sacked Jenrick from his role as shadow justice secretary, removed the Tory whip from him, and ripped up the Newark MP’s party membership. In a bombshell video statement, the Leader of the Opposition said she had received “clear, irrefutable evidence that he [Jenrick] was plotting in secret to defect in a way designed to be as damaging as possible to his Shadow Cabinet colleagues and the wider Conservative Party”. About five-and-a-half hours later, forced into an earlier-than-planned announcement, Jenrick was standing alongside Reform leader Nigel Farage at the party’s Westminster headquarters, confirming his defection and launching a series of extraordinary attacks on his former party. He admitted that he first reached out to Farage in September, four months before his unveiling today. “The [Conservative] party hasn’t changed, and it won’t. The bulk of the party don’t get it. …
