The register, which is published quarterly, keeps track of which BBC journalists have taken on gigs as moderators, panellists, awards judges and speakers, as well as who has paid them. Because the register reports fees only in pay bands, the figures below represent minimum and maximum possible earnings. The BBC’s chairman Samir Shah The Sunday Times that BBC presenters who make extra money from moonlighting could see their salaries cut in the future, with these external events factored into their pay reviews. Shah said: “They make a lot of money out of presenting for the BBC, in my view. Maybe their view is they don’t. But they leverage… the fact that they present on the BBC [to get] gigs outside.” The news follows …

The BBC’s international editor predicted that Donald Trump will end up “escalating” his war with Iran as the conflict hits an “inflection point”. The US president has promised to postpone his plans to start destroying Iranian energy plants by another 10 days, claiming his negotiations with Tehran are going “very well”. Iran is yet to publicly respond to Trump’s claims. The US sent Iran a 15-point peace plan earlier this week, while Tehran has sent back its own proposals for a ceasefire. The BBC’s international editor has called Donald Trump a liar in a lengthy on-air monologue. In an 11-minute essay on Radio 4’s flagship Today programme, Jeremy Bowen was given free rein to warn that the US president is “making it up as he goes along” in his war on Iran. He said: “Perhaps analysts and commentators have let their distaste for Donald Trump cloud their judgment. A BBC expert has delivered a brutal reality check to Donald Trump over his claim that America has “already won” the war in Iran. Referring to British plans to send two Royal Navy ships to the region, Trump said: “We don’t need people that join wars after we’ve already won.” But on Radio 4′s Today programme this morning, BBC international affairs editor Jeremy Bowen said Trump was obviously wrong.
