The last ever episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is set to air on CBS on Thursday, May 21. LateNighter reports that Kimmel told the site personally that “his ABC show will not produce a new episode next Thursday out of deference to Colbert’s sendoff.” Jimmy Kimmel Live! is expected to air a rerun that evening. The decision has some precedence, with Kimmel also choosing not to take the air in 2015 opposite David Letterman’s final show as host of The Late Show. NBC’s Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon remains set to air a new episode next Thursday. The Independent has approached Kimmel and Fallon for comment. Get the latest entertainment news, reviews and star-studded interviews with our Independent Culture email Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter ABC has pushed back at the FCC over their investigation into The View, arguing that the agency is attempting to “chill critical protected speech.” The move comes weeks after the FCC told ABC it must renew its broadcast licenses amid the fallout of Jimmy Kimmel’s controversial joke about Melania Trump. It suggests that ABC is more prepared to fight FCC interference than they were last September, when Kimmel was taken off the air for nearly a week after he made comments about the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Earlier this year, the FCC began investigating The View after the agency’s Trump-appointed chairman Brendan Carr alleged that the talk show had violated the “equal time rule” governing airtime for political candidates by interviewing James Talarico, a Democrat running for a U.S. Senate seat in Texas. In a newly filed response …
The Met Gala is all about big sartorial swings, and in a sense NBA superstar Jimmy Butler delivered on that front on Monday evening. He pulled up to the gala not in couture or a wearable art installation, but rather in a brand more closely associated with Pilates studios (or coffee shops in close proximity to Pilates studios) than black-tie affairs: Alo Yoga. It was a high-risk, potentially high-reward move—the sartorial equivalent of a half-court prayer of a shot with two seconds left on the clock. And on its face, the idea of a sportswear brand making a red-carpet suit is not unheard of either: We’re seeing more and more tech fabric being used in places where tech fabric should maybe not be used by the day. But just because Alo is best known for sweats and sporty tees doesn’t mean Golden State’s do-it-all forward—who has an ongoing relationship with Alo, and released a sneaker with the brand last fall—pulled up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art like he was headed for the gym. Rather, …
What a difference a few hours make… Following calls for his firing from The White House and Melania Trump, US talkshow host Jimmy Kimmel has defended a joke he made, in which he called the First Lady an “expectant widow” just days before the recent shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The host made the joke last Thursday (23 April), during his show Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow,” he said. On Saturday (25 April), a gunman fired several shots at the Hilton in Washington, before being apprehended. Posting on Truth Social yesterday, the US president said Disney and ABC should immediately sack the comedian – and not for the first time. Kimmel’s show was temporarily suspended by ABC last year following the murder of Charlie Kirk and Trump’s calls for the talkshow host to be fired. Related The First Lady also posted on X that “people like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter …

Formed by vocalist and guitarist Jim Adkins, guitarist Tom Linton, bassist Rick Burch and drummer Zach Lind in 1993, they have released 10 albums – including their 2001 breakthrough record, Bleed American. Its hit single, The Middle, peaked at No 5 in the US Hot 100 chart; it has now had more than 1bn streams. The band mark the 25th anniversary of the album with a series of shows this summer including UK appearances in August in Halifax, Cardiff and Crystal Palace Bowl, London. During Thursday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! opening monologue, the late-night host, 58, fired back at Donald’s latest retort, demanding to know when ABC plans to take action against Kimmel over his recent “widow” joke about First Lady Melania Trump. “When is ABC Fake News Network firing seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel, who incompetently presides over one of the Lowest Rated shows on Television? People are angry. It better be soon!!!” Donald wrote Thursday morning on Truth Social. Responding to the president’s jab later that night, the comedian said: “Or what? “If incompetently presiding over not just one of but the lowest rating in history is the reason I should be fired, then we should both be out of …

It was announced yesterday that the Disney-owned network is being required to renew its licenses by May 28, even though they are not due to expire until 2028. That decision came soon after the FCC received a complaint against ABC late night host Kimmel following his joke last week suggesting that First Lady Melania Trump had the glow of an “expectant widow.” Days after the sketch aired, a gunman attempted to storm Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. As Deadline reports, Carr denied Thursday that the events were linked and claimed the decision was due to an existing DEI investigation. “This was based on DEI conduct, not speech,” said Carr. “The FCC has rules …
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr said Thursday that the commission’s move to call in Disney‘s broadcast licenses for an early renewal was not related to President Trump’s call for ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel to be fired. Instead, Carr said that the decision was sparked by an investigation launched over a year ago into Disney’s diversity, equity and inclusion practices, and that perceived lack of document production from Disney led to this week’s letter. “It felt to us like they were playing rope a dope, and weren’t being entirely forthcoming with the production,” Carr told reporters at the FCC‘s April open meeting, which was livestreamed. “If they produced the documents on the original deadline, I don’t think we’d be in the same temporal moment as we are right now.” “The FCC has rules on the books: You can’t discriminate based on race and gender, and there was evidence that had been submitted that that’s what Disney was doing,” he added. “I understand that anything that we do is is now framed as ‘in …
