Jonah Hill Cut Off Comedy Without Release Date Amid ‘Unreleasable’ Claim

Jonah Hill Cut Off Comedy Without Release Date Amid ‘Unreleasable’ Claim

Jonah Hill’s upcoming comedy Cut Off, co-starring Kristen Wiig, is currently awaiting a new release date. On Friday, Puck News reported that the film — which was originally slated for July 17, the same day as Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey — no longer has that date because it was viewed as “unreleasable” and is now not scheduled. However, a source close to the situation tells The Hollywood Reporter that the film wrapped production in January and that Warner Bros. wants more time in the run-up to its release. THR has learned that a new release date is forthcoming. THR also reached out to Hill’s representative for comment but did not hear back by the time of publication. The film, which Hill directed, produced and co-wrote with Ezra Woods, follows two siblings, played by Hill and Wiig, whose wealthy parents stop financially supporting them. Hill has previously described Cut Off as a “classic comedy,” comparing it to Step Brothers, Clueless and Trading Places. “I’m about to go on a run of just the dumbest shit …

Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube Return for Sequel

Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube Return for Sequel

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are back on the beat with 24 Jump Street. The latest sequel in the comedy film franchise is in the works at Sony Pictures, with Hill, Tatum and Ice Cube in talks to return, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Rodney Rothman will direct the movie from a script he wrote with Hill and Meghan Malloy. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who helmed 2012’s 21 Jump Street and its 2014 sequel, will return as producers alongside Neal H. Moritz. No plot details have been shared, and it is unclear why the number 23 was skipped over for the current film’s title. Lord and Miller, who helmed this year’s Ryan Gosling-led Amazon MGM Studios hit Project Hail Mary, marked their feature directorial debuts with 21 Jump Street, which had a script from Hill and Michael Bacall. The films are based on the 21 Jump Street series that premiered on Fox in 1987 and ran for five seasons. Johnny Depp, who had a cameo in the first movie, starred in the show that …

Jonah Hill-Kristen Wiig Movie Loses July Release From Warners

Jonah Hill-Kristen Wiig Movie Loses July Release From Warners

Jonah Hill and Kristen Wiig‘s forthcoming comedy Cut Off is waiting for the right moment to branch out. The Warner Bros. feature does not currently have a release date after it was previously scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, which The Hollywood Reporter has learned in light of the movie not being named at CinemaCon among the studio’s list of 2026 releases. Hill directed the movie from a script he wrote with Ezra Woods, and a new release date for the project is expected to be announced soon. Cut Off centers on a pair of siblings whose wealthy parents stop supporting them financially. Bette Midler, Nathan Lane, Adriana Barraza, Camila Cabello and Chelsea Peretti round out the cast. Hill, Matt Dines and Ali Goodwin serve as producers for the film that would have opened opposite Christopher Nolan’s star-studded The Odyssey. Hill discussed the project during his appearance for SmartLess Live at the Hollywood Palladium on Saturday. The star described the film as “pure stupidity” and noted that co-star Wiig is a “national treasure.” He told …

Jonah Hill Teases New Kristen Wiig Comedy ‘Cut Off’ as Pure Stupidity

Jonah Hill Teases New Kristen Wiig Comedy ‘Cut Off’ as Pure Stupidity

Jonah Hill may not have made it to the CinemaCon main stage during Warner Bros. studio presentation to promote his upcoming film, Cut Off, but the comedy vet didn’t miss a chance to tease it while under the lights at SmartLess Live on Saturday. “Next one is pure stupidity,” Hill told SmartLess hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes of the film, due in theaters July 17. It comes on the heels of his Apple TV original Outcome starring Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer. Asked to elaborate and share the concept, Hill said this: “It’s dumb. I’m about to go on a run of just the dumbest shit you’ve ever seen in your entire life. I hope you left your brains at home. It’s called Cut Off and Kristen Wiig and I play two dumb ass heirs, rich kids in their mid-40s who get cut off by their rich parents, played by Bette Midler and Nathan Lane. It is like Step Brothers, Clueless and Trading Places. Classic comedy. It’s so great, and …

Jonah Hill on Drama of Filming David O. Russell’s ‘I Heart Huckabees’

Jonah Hill turned up as the surprise guest at SiriusXM’s Smartless LIVE on Saturday night at Hollywood’s Palladium for an appearance that marked his first lengthy (and very public) solo interview in years. And he was super stoked to be there. “I’ve been gone for a while, so I’m kind of coming back, and I’m excited because I got all, like, serious for a while and I wasn’t as happy,” Hill explained to the Smartless trio of a quiet few years before returning to the spotlight with his recent Apple TV film Outcome. “And then I had my family and I got happy, and now all I want to do is be funny again. That’s why I said yes [to being on Smartless]. I’m, like, I want to go fucking be funny in front of a crowd and that’d be awesome.” Hill appeared to have an awesome time with Smartless hosts Jason Bateman (a close friend he called a mentor), Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. The hour-plus conversation covered nearly his entire career, from his …

Jonah Hill “Wasn’t Happy for A While” But He’s Ready to Be Funny Again

Jonah Hill “Wasn’t Happy for A While” But He’s Ready to Be Funny Again

Jonah Hill is ready to be funny again. So said the funnyman Saturday night while appearing on stage at Hollywood’s Palladium as the surprise guest of SiriusXM’s Smartless LIVE hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. Hill, who broke out 20 years ago with roles in Knocked Up, Superbad and Forgetting Sarah Marshall to become an in-demand comedy star who got nominated for two Academy Awards for Moneyball and Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, has kept a low-profile in recent years. But on the heels of releasing his new Apple TV original film Outcome — a Hollywood satire that he wrote, directed and stars in alongside Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer — Hill sat for one of his longest interviews in recent memory and explained his retreat from the spotlight and desire to come roaring back. “I’ve been gone for a while, so I’m kind of coming back and I’m like excited because I got all, like, serious for a while and I wasn’t as happy,” Hill explained to the …

Jonah Hill-Kristen Wiig Movie Loses July Release From Warners

Was Outcome Inspired By His Life and Career?

[This story contains light spoilers for Outcome.] Jonah Hill has lived many lives since audiences first got to know him in comedies like Knocked Up and The Forty Year Old Virgin. Just consider his cameo on last week’s Saturday Night Live, in which he appeared during the opening monologue to welcome Jack Black into the Five Timer’s Club along side Tina Fey, Candice Bergen and others. Hill’s own five hosting gigs on SNL are a study in the many swerves his career has taken. When he first hosted in 2008, he was fresh off co-starring in the raunchy teen comedy Superbad, cementing himself as the smart, schlubby comedy guy. By his third hosting gig in 2014, he was joined onstage during his monologue by Leonardo DiCaprio, his co-star in the searing satire The Wolf of Wall Street, a Martin Scorsese picture that netted Hill his second Oscar nomination for best supporting actor after Moneyball just three years earlier. By 2018, when Hill was welcomed into the Five-Timers’ Club by Fey and Bergen, he had transformed …

Why Jonah Hill Added Kanye West Jews Hate Joke in New Movie ‘Outcome’

Why Jonah Hill Added Kanye West Jews Hate Joke in New Movie ‘Outcome’

Jonah Hill included a Kanye “Ye” West joke in his new movie Outcome and it all stemmed from a 2023 Instagram post from the rapper, where he said the actor’s performance in 21 Jump Street made him “like Jewish people again.” The actor, who is Jewish, opened up about the controversial rapper’s “bizarre public thing” during a recent appearance on Apple Music’s The Zane Lowe Show. West has faced widespread backlash over the last few years for making several antisemitic remarks and releasing a song called “Heil Hitler.” “I felt that he did this bizarre public thing to kind of make up, like, ‘It’s all good cause I love Jonah,’” Hill said of the rapper’s 2023 social media post. “[It] just sat with me in a way that it’s, like, all good. I love him still, and I hope whatever happens, he can heal or whatever, and everyone can heal from all that stuff. … I hope he can heal and make it right with the people he needs to make it right [with] in …
