Gabby Jones | Bloomberg | Martin Lelievre | Getty Images A lobbying arms race between Kalshi, Polymarket and the casino and gaming sectors is unfolding in Washington, with all sides vying to win over lawmakers amid increasing scrutiny of prediction markets from Congress and regulators. Kalshi’s lobbying spending totaled $990,000 during the first half of 2026, according to filings this week, and nearly $1.8 million when including outside firms it’s hired. That’s more than the total $1 million the company spent on lobbying for the entirety of 2025 and marks the highest six-month spending to date for the company. But the gambling and casino industry, which is fighting the rise of prediction markets, is also spending more on Capitol Hill.  The American Gaming Association, a gambling industry group, spent $1.39 million so far in 2026 on lobbying efforts, pacing ahead of what it spent in 2025. When including outside firms, the group has spent nearly $1.8 million on federal lobbying, 30% more than it spent in the first half of 2025. Cherokee …

Americans wary of Trump’s government ownership of companies: CNBC poll

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick looks on as U.S. President Donald Trump speaks in the Oval Office at the White House in Washington, D.C., U.S., June 11, 2026. Daniel Heuer | Reuters About half of Americans believe it isn’t appropriate for the U.S. government to take ownership in U.S.-based companies, CNBC’s new All-America Economic Survey found. The finding comes as the Trump administration has negotiated 30 deals worth nearly $27 billion in total, according to the Council on Foreign Relations, a nonpartisan think tank. More may be coming. The administration has held talks with influential artificial intelligence start-up OpenAI about a potential government stake when it goes public, CNBC has reported. The All-America poll results show only 19% of voters say it is appropriate for the federal government to own a portion of U.S.-based companies, while 49% say it isn’t. Almost a third of voters, or 32%, were undecided, however, suggesting there is room for persuasion as the administration moves ahead with its plans. Kevin Dietsch | Getty Images Donald Trump’s social media company has discussed charging Wall Street traders and investment firms as much as $100,000 a month for faster access to the U.S. president’s posts on his Truth Social platform, according to people familiar with the matter. Trump Media & Technology Group, which owns Truth Social, has in recent weeks also pitched a discounted plan of $60,000 per month if the firms sign up for a three-year plan, the sources said, requesting anonymity as the discussions are confidential. TMTG on Thursday unveiled a paid-for, licensed data feed called “Truth API” to provide banks and trading firms the fastest access to posts from the 10 most influential Truth Social accounts, but did not give any pricing details. The move would be the company’s first step into data licensing, opening up a new revenue stream, although it drew immediate criticism from Democrats. U.S. Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, said it would financially benefit ‌the Trump family and “make Wall Street traders …

Ken Cedeno | Afp | Getty Images Jay Clayton, President Donald Trump’s pick for director of national intelligence, refused to say Joe Biden won the 2020 election, claimed not to know his predecessor Tulsi Gabbard took part in a raid of a Georgia election office earlier this year and defended subpoenaing New York Times journalists in a contentious Senate confirmation hearing Wednesday. Clayton, the former Securities and Exchange Commission chair and current U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, appeared before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence more than a month after Trump announced his nomination and weeks after the president then abruptly sabotaged a planned confirmation hearing in June. While it appeared a month ago that Clayton would have a relatively smooth path to confirmation, Democrats challenged Clayton’s election comments and time as U.S. attorney. …

Judge blasts Trump lawsuit against IRS as improper

Judge blasts Trump lawsuit against IRS as improper

A Florida federal judge in a scathing order Monday said President Donald Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service “for an improper purpose” — to gain the appearance of “judicial legitimacy for a ‘settlement’ that had no viable basis in law or fact.” That controversial out-of-court settlement with the IRS and Department of Justice in May briefly led the DOJ to create a since-abandoned $1.8 billion “lawfare” fund to compensate purported victims of prosecutorial overreach by the department. It also led to Trump, his family members and related business entities being granted effective immunity from audits, prosecution or regulatory enforcement action by the IRS for tax returns filed up to the date of the settlement in May. Judge Kathleen Williams, in her new order in U.S. District Court in Miami, pointed to Trump’s power over the IRS and DOJ when he filed the suit as president and then reached a settlement with the parties out of court. “The Court determines that Plaintiffs improperly employed this lawsuit to justify a particular award …

The president added, “Almost anything they do, if they want to buy a truck … if they buy an energy efficient truck, they have insider information.” The investments of the president’s children have been heavily scrutinized, especially as their portfolio has aligned with the strategic goals of the elder Trump’s administration. Eduardo Munoz | Reuters AI Financial Corp., a publicly traded company that took heavy losses after making a billion-dollar bet on a cryptocurrency backed by the Trump family, said Wednesday that its outlook had improved. Its shares are down 92% since it made that bet to 65 cents a share as of Wednesday’s market open. The Trump family earned about $500 million in that transaction, CNBC reported. Eduardo Munoz | Reuters Back in August, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. were all smiles. They showed up at the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York to celebrate a new business partnership with a little-known publicly traded company, then called Alt5 Sigma, to give investors easier access to a cryptocurrency backed by the Trump family. Less than 10 months later, the company has warned investors it may not be able to stay in business much longer. Its share price has fallen more than 90%, and a rebranding hasn’t revived investor interest. If the company, now called AI Financial Corp., can’t sustainably raise its share price out of penny-stock levels in the next 15 trading days, it faces the prospect of being delisted by the Nasdaq. One of the few parties who benefited from …
