Wes Streeting slapped down as Kemi Badenoch warns him ‘do your job’ | Politics | News

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has taken aim at Wes Streeting over his reported leadership ambitions. The Tory leader asked him “why don’t you just do your job?” while speaking in the Commons following the King’s Speech. During the debate, Mrs Badenoch said: “All we have is a load of reannounced policies. Hounding our brave veterans through the courts, legislating for digital ID – a policy they told us they dropped – banning trail hunting, just more class war that makes no one’s life better, scrapping NHS England, something the Prime Minister announced 14 months ago. “But then I suppose the Health Secretary has been a bit distracted lately, hasn’t he? He’s chuntering now – why don’t you just do your job? Do your job. “There’s no point in giving me dirty looks. We all know what he’s been up to.” Mr Streeting confronted his boss over the crisis engulfing Labour as the pair met for crunch talks – which lasted less than 20 minutes – in Downing Street ahead of the King’s Speech on Wednesday. …

Politics Home Article | The Reform Wave Reaches Kemi Badenoch’s Backyard

Reform UK has claimed yet another Tory stronghold (Alamy) 3 min read5 hr Reform’s dominant victory in Essex will likely be one of the local election results most worrying Kemi Badenoch. Not just because the Tories had controlled the council for 25 years. But also because the county is home to the constituencies of ten Conservative MPs, six of whom are shadow cabinet ministers – including Badenoch herself. Former cabinet ministers James Cleverly and Priti Patel, both senior members of Badenoch’s shadow front bench, are also Essex MPs. It was confirmed on Friday that Nigel Farage’s insurgent party won 53 of Essex County Council’s 78 seats, with the Conservatives dropping to 13 from the 52 they won in 2021. Five years ago, the Tories were riding high in the opinion polls, with the then prime minister, Boris Johnson, enjoying what was widely described as a coronavirus vaccine bounce. Now, however, the Conservatives are struggling to move on from their 2024 general election loss, with Badenoch’s steadily improving ratings seemingly failing to translate into an improved party brand. Tories win seat from Reform in council by-election in boost for Kemi Badenoch | Politics | News

The Conservatives have gained a seat from Reform UK in a council by-election in the latest sign of a bounce for Kemi Badenoch’s party. The Tories took the Cramlington South West ward on Northumberland County Council with 34.2% of the vote, up nine points. Reform was down 13 points to second place with 26.1% of the vote share. The Liberal Democrats came third with 23%, while the Greens were fourth on 14.3%. It comes as the Tory fightback is underway following their 2024 general election defeat. The research found that 22% of voters backed the Conservatives, up 3% from the previous poll. Meanwhile, Reform’s lead had narrowed with Nigel Farage’s party on 25%, down 5% from the week before. Labour was third on 21%, while Zack Polanski’s Greens were fourth on 13% and the Lib Dems were on 12%. It comes ahead of next month’s local elections where Reform is expected to make major gains, while Labour is facing a drubbing. Source link

Kemi Badenoch tears into Keir Starmer and Ed Miliband over North Sea | Politics | News

Kemi Badenoch tears into Keir Starmer and Ed Miliband over North Sea | Politics | News

She insisted it is “not rocket science” and that the Prime Minister and Energy Secretary need to “get a grip” as Britons face soaring prices. Mrs Badenoch told LBC: “A lot of people don’t know that quite a lot of your bills aren’t coming from the wholesaler or the energy company, it’s actually the Government that’s put loads of taxes on that. “We think that those taxes need to come off. They’re being used to subsidise things that in my view don’t need subsidies. “Why don’t we just bring your bills down by drilling in the North Sea? It’s not rocket science but Labour don’t seem to even want to think about it. “It’s important for our energy security, our financial security, our national security.” She went on: “Instead they want to raise fuel duty in September. They’re telling people they’ve extended it for five months, we froze it for 14 years, in fact we cut it in 2022. “So there’s a lot that can be done. People out there are struggling. I’m very worried …

Tory Leader Kemi Badenoch Slammed Over ‘Misleading’ Net Zero and Energy Bill Plans

Tory Leader Kemi Badenoch Slammed Over ‘Misleading’ Net Zero and Energy Bill Plans

Kemi Badenoch was slammed for her new plan to drop Net Zero altogether during her broadcast rounds this morning. The Tory leader claimed drilling in the North Sea would help ease the upcoming energy crisis, and dismissed the UK’s legally binding target to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050 as a “slogan”. She also claimed the country would go “bankrupt” because of the policy, which was championed by former Tory prime minister Theresa May. Badenoch has called for the government to approve more oil and gas drilling in the UK in response to the strain the Iran war has put on global energy supplies. “The first thing [the government] should do is start drilling our own oil and gas in the North Sea,” the Tory leader told Sky News. “It’s important for our energy security, our economic security, our national security, and they’re not doing [it].” Presenter Trevor Phillips said: “That’s all very helpful, but the point is none of that oil would come on stream for years.” He added: “I’m …

Kemi Badenoch’s Best Bits Video Has Embarrassing Glitch

Kemi Badenoch’s Best Bits Video Has Embarrassing Glitch

The Tories were left looking rather embarrassed today after a “best bits” compilation video of Kemi Badenoch played nothing at all. Shadow local government secretary James Cleverly tried to launch the Conservatives’ local elections campaign by lauding the party leader’s “vim and vigour” – but a technical glitch turned it into a moment they’d rather forget. Shortly before introducing Badenoch on stage, Cleverly told the waiting audience: “Just in case anyone has forgotten just how good she is, let’s remind ourselves with a quick look at her best bits.” A few people in the audience excitedly declared that this clip was obviously “going to be long” as the screen briefly flashed up with the Conservatives’ slogans. But it quickly went black. It then showed the Tory pledge to implement a “stronger economy and a stronger country” once more – before Cleverly started to give up. “I’m going to give it… one more second…for the video,” he said, then adding: “Do you know what ladies and gentlemen? Forget the video.” He then welcomed Badenoch onto the …

Kemi Badenoch accused of insulting armed forces for saying RAF ‘hanging around’ in the Middle East | UK News

Kemi Badenoch accused of insulting armed forces for saying RAF ‘hanging around’ in the Middle East | UK News

The leader of the Conservative Party is facing calls to apologise after she suggested the UK military are “just hanging around” rather than taking the necessary action in the Middle East. Kemi Badenoch said there was a need to reduce the capability of Iran to attack British bases, adding that the UK is currently just “catching arrows”. Defence Secretary John Healey said her comments “insults the men and women of our Armed Forces” and that she should apologise. On Saturday, the leader of the Opposition said she was “not going to apologise” for criticising the government’s refusal to order the RAF to target Iranian missile launchers, rather than intercepting rockets and drones once they’re in the air. While she didn’t directly refer to her “hanging around” remark, she hit out at Mr Healey, saying she would never criticise British troops or service personnel. Kemi Badenoch launches her most scathing attack on the PM yet over response to Iran war | UK News

Kemi Badenoch launches her most scathing attack on the PM yet over response to Iran war | UK News

Kemi Badenoch claims Labour is “nothing like the patriotic party of yesteryear” and “playing student politics” over the Iran war. In a speech at the Conservative spring conference in Harrogate today, the Tory leader will accuse the prime minister of “sitting on the fence” while the rest of the world rearms. “I never thought I would see the day when Britain’s allies felt that they could not rely on us,” she will say. “This week, they have described us as weak. They’ve accused us of deserting them, of going missing in action. “They have watched Britain refusing to send reinforcements to defend our military bases in the Mediterranean. The US, Greece and France have all sent ships. Ours is stuck in Portsmouth Harbour, apparently because of a union dispute.” Iran war latest: follow live Image: Kemi Badenoch In her most scathing attack on the PM yet on Iran, she will continue: “Everyone remembers the mistakes of the Iraq war. Nobody is suggesting we should drop bombs without a second thought. “But Keir Starmer spent days …
