In September of 2025, prosecutors in the Charlie Kirk murder case alleged that they had access to a hand-written note left by prime suspect Tyler Robinson for his trans boyfriend which contained a confession to the crime.  Tyler Robinson, 22, left a note under a keyboard for his roommate/romantic partner to discover, said Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray.   According to Mr Gray, the note said: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.”  Newly unsealed court documents now reveal that this letter does indeed exist.  An affidavit for a search warrant outlined a letter that Tyler Robinson allegedly wrote before Charlie Kirk’s assassination.  Robinson is accused of shooting and killing the conservative political activist on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. Detectives seized ammunition, computers, a DNA sample, and a copy of a note that Robinson allegedly left for his roommate, with whom he had a romantic relationship.  The affidavit states that an FBI agent met with Robinson’s partner, Lance Twiggs, whom Robinson sometimes referred to as “Luna.”  …

There’s a new wrinkle in the case against Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged with assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Defense attorneys revealed last week that federal ballistic analysis cannot link the bullet that killed Kirk to the rifle prosecutors say Robinson used. Robinson faces charges of aggravated murder, along with multiple felony counts, for the September 10, 2025, killing of Kirk at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. The case seemed, from the outside, fairly straightforward: Robinson reportedly confessed to his father, who told a youth pastor with ties to the U.S. Marshals Service, and Robinson himself surrendered to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office the following night.  Prosecutors say DNA consistent with Robinson’s was recovered from the trigger, the fired cartridge casing, and two unfired cartridges on the rifle found near the scene. Defense attorneys for Tyler Robinson, the accused shooter, had asked the judge in January to disqualify that member of the prosecution team—along with his entire office—after it was revealed that his daughter had been in the crowd when Kirk was killed. The young woman did not see the shooting, but texted “CHARLIE GOT SHOT” to a family group chat. Robinson’s defense attorneys had argued that the prosecutor’s relationship with someone in the crowd might have influenced his decision to seek the death penalty. The prosecution said in a court filing in Utah’s Fourth Judicial District Court for Utah County that she did not have “any lasting trauma from the event.” “In fact, nearly everything [she] knows about the actual homicide is hearsay,” the filing said, adding that any testimony she gave would consist of “generic, uncontested details available from literally thousands of other witnesses.” Utah …

With state legislative sessions starting up around the country, state-level Republicans have a top priority: creating a holiday to honor the life of right-wing pundit Charlie Kirk, who was murdered last year at a public event. The push to commemorate Kirk, however, exposes the GOP’s lack of a real policy platform that actually impacts regular people. Three states so far are moving forward with legislative efforts to create a holiday honoring Kirk — Florida, Kansas and West Virginia – though others are considering similar moves. In the Florida state House, Republicans advanced a bill out of committee to create a “Charlie Kirk Day of Remembrance” on Oct. 14, the day of the late activist’s birthday. Similarly, Kansas lawmakers approved a measure in late January to create a  “Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day” on the same day.
