July 9 (Reuters) – The former roommate of Tyler Robinson, who is accused of assassinating ⁠conservative ⁠activist Charlie Kirk, told prosecutors that Robinson expressed regret ⁠a day after the killing and planned to hand himself over to police, according to a video interview played in ​court on Thursday. The recorded interview with Robinson’s former roommate and romantic partner, Lance Twiggs, was presented as prosecutors tried to convince a Utah judge they have sufficient evidence against Robinson to warrant ‌a trial — part of a week-long hearing that ‌has featured lengthy back-and-forth arguments about what evidence should be admissible.  Robinson, who was studying to be an electrician at the time of the shooting, faces seven criminal charges including aggravated ⁠murder. Prosecutors are seeking ⁠the death penalty. He has yet to enter a plea.  The 31-year-old Kirk, a prominent ally of President Donald ​Trump, was killed in front of thousands as he debated students at Utah Valley University. (RNS) — Charlie Kirk often dismissed college as a waste.   The far-right activist and Turning Point USA co-founder never earned a college degree, a fact he proudly touted in his 2022 book “The College Scam.” But in a February 2025 talk, he described one exception. “There is no place like Hillsdale College,” Kirk said. “The students are different. They’re focused on the right things.” It wasn’t just Hillsdale’s curriculum. The Christian school’s political influence, he added, had made it a “cultural powerhouse.” “The philosophical basis of this new administration is largely an outgrowth from the hard work that Hillsdale has been doing over the last couple of decades,” said Kirk. In September of 2025, prosecutors in the Charlie Kirk murder case alleged that they had access to a hand-written note left by prime suspect Tyler Robinson for his trans boyfriend which contained a confession to the crime.  Tyler Robinson, 22, left a note under a keyboard for his roommate/romantic partner to discover, said Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray.   According to Mr Gray, the note said: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.”  Newly unsealed court documents now reveal that this letter does indeed exist.  An affidavit for a search warrant outlined a letter that Tyler Robinson allegedly wrote before Charlie Kirk’s assassination.  Robinson is accused of shooting and killing the conservative political activist on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. Detectives seized ammunition, computers, a DNA sample, and a copy of a note that Robinson allegedly left for his roommate, with whom he had a romantic relationship.  The affidavit states that an FBI agent met with Robinson’s partner, Lance Twiggs, whom Robinson sometimes referred to as “Luna.”  …
