14 nabbed in crackdown on illegal cross-border transport services

SINGAPORE: A total of 14 people have been caught in recent enforcement operations against illegal cross-border transport services, said Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling on Monday (May 25). The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been conducting the operations islandwide – including at Changi Airport and Gardens by the Bay – over the past few weeks, said Ms Sun in a Facebook post.  On Monday, LTA and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) also conducted a joint enforcement operation at Singapore’s land checkpoints at Woodlands and Tuas. This is “part of our continued efforts to safeguard commuter safety and protect the livelihoods of our local point-to-point drivers from illegal cross-border transport services”, added Ms Sun. She noted that since May 4, cross-border taxis have been allowed to drop off passengers anywhere in Singapore and across several parts of Johor under enhancements to the transport scheme. “With the school holidays coming up, please travel safe and engage licensed cross-border transport service providers,” she said, adding that the authorities will continue to work closely with …

Singapore monitoring ‘relevant standards’ amid safety concerns over hidden car door handles

Singapore monitoring ‘relevant standards’ amid safety concerns over hidden car door handles

“Drivers of vehicle models with emergency mechanical door release features are advised to familiarise themselves with the location and operation of the features,” said the LTA spokesperson. “This includes going through the owner’s manual for instructions and seeking advice from their vehicle retailers or last (owners) of the vehicles.” Electronic or hidden car door handles, introduced and popularised in the electric car industry by the 2012 launch of Tesla’s Model S, are folded into the body of the car, providing a slight boost to efficiency by reducing drag. China is the world’s largest EV market, and dozens of its brands have growing operations abroad. Chinese automaker BYD was Singapore’s best-selling car brand in 2025, capturing more than one-fifth of all new vehicle registrations. A total of 11,184 new BYD cars were registered last year, representing 21.2 per cent of the 52,678 cars registered. Tesla recorded 3,476 new registrations in Singapore last year, making it the second-most popular EV brand in the country. Source link

Restoration of bus arrival timing system more than 90% complete: LTA

Restoration of bus arrival timing system more than 90% complete: LTA

SINGAPORE: The availability of bus arrival timings through the Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) system has been restored to more than 90 per cent, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Saturday (Feb 7). “Instances of missing arrival timings or longer headways are expected to continue to decrease as the Expected Time of Arrival system performance stabilises,” the authority added. The ETA system provides estimated bus arrival timings at bus stops and on transport applications. It has been malfunctioning since Jan 10, with technical issues causing long wait times to be displayed. LTA said that it has been working with the contractor for the ETA system to rectify the issues, which prevented buses from transmitting location data to a central server. “The restoration involved clearing the memory cache and manually updating firmware for the transmitters on 4,000 buses,” LTA said, adding that the transmitters had to be replaced in some cases. “LTA has also started upgrading the fare and bus fleet management systems, which will be completed within the next two years,” it said.
