8 Baby Tees Perfect For Layering This Spring

Just so you know, HuffPost UK may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI – prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication. Spring is agonisingly close to, erm, springing, which means it’s soon time for us to shed a couple of layers and maybe, just maybe, see the sun more than once or twice a month. However, with the changing seasons comes that pesky transitional weather. It can be so hard to dress for the UK weather appropriately, especially when we’re liable to shiver in Baltic temperatures when the sun goes down, sweat when it’s out, and cower under umbrellas during random showers in between. But baby tees can be especially handy for transitional dressing, thanks to how easy they are to layer under jumpers, cardigans, and chic jackets. They’re also pretty hard to style badly, …

Sali Hughes on beauty: if you don’t like strong scents, layering could be the answer | Beauty

For someone who makes no secret of her obsession with fragrance, I’m always surprised by how frequently people ask me to recommend one for someone who hates the stuff. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Learn more. Sometimes wearing more potent fragrances is impossible for those prone to allergies or migraines, but mostly it’s an instinctive aversion to being held captive all day by scent too pervasive for one’s liking. And in these instances, I invariably suggest the layering of two more subtly scented products with compatible aromas, to add depth and interest without the same strength as a power perfume. The result is a sort of olfactory watercolour painting – gentler, translucent, less defined and kinder to a scent-sensitive nose, easier to wear and more appropriate in some settings. Rare Beauty have run with this concept for its new Layering Balms, £18. There are four ungreasy balms to choose from: Woody Oak (my favourite), Amber Vanilla, Floral Peony Blossom and Bergamot, each created to stroke on to pulse …

Scientists discover onion-like layering in Earth’s inner core

Scientists discover onion-like layering in Earth’s inner core

Earth’s inner core has long challenged researchers because seismic waves do not move through it uniformly. Compressional waves generated by earthquakes travel roughly 3 to 4 percent faster along Earth’s rotation axis than they do across the equator. This directional difference, called seismic anisotropy, also varies with depth. Near the outer boundary of the inner core, anisotropy is relatively weak, typically around 2 percent or less. Deeper toward the center, the effect becomes much stronger, rising to about 4 to 6 percent. Understanding why this directional behavior intensifies with depth remains a major problem in Earth science. Two leading explanations have been proposed. One argues that the shapes of grains or inclusions inside the core become aligned, a mechanism known as shape preferred orientation. The other points to lattice preferred orientation, in which the crystal structures themselves line up as the material undergoes deformation. An overview of the experimental setup at DESY in Hamburg reveals the vacuum chamber housing the high-temperature diamond anvil cell: The cell’s orange colour comes from the light it emits at …

How to Style a Jean Jacket: 4 Foolproof Ways to Wear the Ultimate Layering Piece

If you’re wondering how to style a jean jacket, you’ve come to the right place. A good jean jacket is the ultimate wardrobe cheat code. Throw on a classic denim trucker—the hardy and eternally handsome style that Levi’s first introduced well over a century ago—and your fit instantly gains more character, toughness, and all-around aura. Jean jackets are so insanely versatile, in fact, that there’s virtually no “wrong” way to wear ‘em. If that feels more intimidating than liberating, however, have no fear. Your old pals at GQ are here with a few pointers to help you pick out exactly the right denim jacket with exactly the right fit and then pull it off with aplomb. Let’s get started. How should a jean jacket fit? A jean jacket should fit the same way you’d want any jacket to fit: not too snug, not too baggy. These days we definitely lean towards casual jackets that crop at the waist, and denim jackets are no exception. However, you can get away with a denim jacket that falls …
