Lume Cube Edge Light Go Review (2026): Versatile, Portable

Lume Cube Edge Light Go Review (2026): Versatile, Portable

The base of the lamp has two slider buttons. One toggle adjusts the warmth, from cold white light all the way to red. One adjusts the intensity, from ultra-bright down to a glareless glow. Hard taps on each button skip ahead, while holding the toggle down on one side or another adjusts the light settings quite slowly—slowly enough I at first sometimes question whether it’s happening. The maximum brightness is 1,000 lumens—the approximate intensity of a 75-watt incandescent bulb. At this brightness, the battery lasts about five hours. At a lower intensity, this can extend to as long as a dozen hours. Red Shift Photograph: Matthew Korfhage There’s an added feature I have come to appreciate at night, which is the red-light mode. There’s little evidence that blue light from your little smartphone is keeping you awake at night. But numerous studies do show that blue light wavelengths can affect melatonin levels and thus your body’s circadian rhythm, while red light doesn’t do this. Red light therapy is, of course, the province of TikTok as …

‘Warning lights for a coming war are flashing red – and Britain is not prepared’ | UK News

Almost all warnings and indicators that a wider war is coming are flashing red and it is “breathtaking” that the UK government is failing to better prepare, a top academic has warned. Dr Rob Johnson, director of the Changing Character of Conflict Centre at Oxford University, said China is taking the steps that would be expected to have the ability to attack Taiwan, while Russia could well be readying to launch military operations against a NATO country. This comes on top of Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which is in its fifth year, and the US and Israeli war against Iran. Mr Johnson has compiled a list of 80 “indicators of conflict preparation and coming armed attack” by drawing on the lessons of history, including the run up to the Second World War. The indicators cover the kind of military activity and hostile diplomacy demonstrated by a nation that is preparing to launch an armed attack, as well as societal changes and government information campaigns. Asked how many of them are already flashing, Mr …

Man Lights 1.2 Million Square Foot Warehouse on Fire for Not Paying Him Enough

Man Lights 1.2 Million Square Foot Warehouse on Fire for Not Paying Him Enough

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Many workers’ pay is effectively frozen in an unforgiving labor market that hasn’t seen any meaningful increases in wages in decades. Meanwhile, the cost of living — not to mention the price of gas — continues to rise, making it difficult for low-income households to squeeze by. One strategy we wouldn’t recommend is to set a 1.2-million-square-foot warehouse filled to the brim with toilet paper and other highly flammable paper products on fire — which is exactly what a disgruntled employee at a paper products facility in Ontario, California did earlier this week, as the LA Times reports. The resulting fire, which started just after midnight local time on Tuesday, was enormous, requiring 175 firefighters and 15 fire trucks to put it out. And if you really, really can’t keep yourself from watching the world burn, we do not, under any circumstances, advise you to film yourself while doing it — which is also what 29-year-old Highland resident …

How a century-long argument over light’s true nature came to an end

How a century-long argument over light’s true nature came to an end

Light is both a wave and a particle, and we know it for sure now Anna Bliokh/Getty Images The following is an extract from our Lost in Space-Time newsletter. Each month, we dive into fascinating ideas from around the universe. You can sign up for Lost in Space-Time here. When physicist Clinton Davisson received the Nobel prize in 1937 for discovering that electrons, which had been considered to be particles, could sometimes unexpectedly behave like waves, he made a point of taking a jab at light. He said, “the perfect child of physics [had] been changed into a gnome with two heads”. It was already known to not be one or the other, but both wave-like and particle-like. Physicists used to think that being a particle and being a wave was mutually exclusive, yet here we had, in light and now also electrons, two examples contradicting that. Somewhat baffled, Davisson couldn’t help but reach for a grotesque metaphor. He was in good company – 10 years earlier, Albert Einstein had a famous argument with Niels Bohr over this seeming absurdity. …

Bangladesh cuts office hours, turns off wedding lights to save energy

Bangladesh cuts office hours, turns off wedding lights to save energy

DHAKA: Bangladesh cut office and shop hours and banned decorative lighting at weddings starting on Friday (Apr 3) as it seeks to conserve energy stocks after global price hikes due to the Middle East war. Bangladesh imports 95 per cent of its oil and gas needs, mostly from the Middle East and said that, while there are adequate stocks of petrol and diesel, it hopes to mitigate the effects of “unsecured” supply lines. About 60 per cent of its electricity is generated using imported gas, while diesel is primarily used for farming in the region. Dhaka ordered all government, private offices and banks to shut an hour earlier each day starting Friday until further notice. “The fuel supply line is unsecured … both government and private offices will run from 9am to 4pm, while banks will remain open from 9am to 3pm,” top government secretary Nasimul Gani told reporters at a news briefing late Thursday. Shopping centres, which normally stay open late, will now shut by 6pm, although stores selling food supplies are expected to …

These New Govee Outdoor Smart String Lights Let You Customize Each Bulb

These New Govee Outdoor Smart String Lights Let You Customize Each Bulb

Govee has a new set of outdoor smart string lights that will bring the party to your backyard. The smart home device company says its Outdoor Chromatic String Lights are the first of their kind, with gradient looks and special effects for each individual bulb. CNET has rated Govee’s RGBIC outdoor string lights as the best value, so this could be a promising addition or upgrade ahead of summer and all those evenings outside. Here’s what to know about them, especially ahead of Amazon’s Big Spring Sale this week. How do the Outdoor Chromatic String Lights work? You can control the lights, gradients and special effects on your smart device through the Govee app, and through Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The string lights also work with other Govee devices for ecosystem integration. Govee’s lights can be attached to stakes or poles. The bulbs are fully customizable using their grouping encoding technology on the app. You’ll be able to select the color gradient for each bulb, and set up color transitions and animations, too.  Govee’s Outdoor Chromatic …

When Warning Lights Flash Red

When Warning Lights Flash Red

On Saturday, President Trump announced plans to deploy ICE agents to help with security at airports across the country, given all of the TSA workers who are either quitting or not showing up because they haven’t been paid for weeks. Last night, an Air Canada airplane collided with a fire truck on a runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, killing two pilots and hospitalizing scores of passengers. These twin crises are separate but related: They are both the result of an approach to governance that neglects the work of governing. Anyone with even a passing interest in air-traffic safety knows that near misses have grown more frequent. In the New York area, there have been two close calls this month alone: An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 nearly collided with a FedEx Boeing 777 in Newark last Tuesday, and another Air Canada flight nearly hit an EVA Air 777 Boeing at John F. Kennedy International Airport on March 12. When a tragedy is averted, some presume that the system is working, a phenomenon in disaster management …
