Mint location guide | Where was the BBC drama filmed?

As well as leaning into magical realism and a variety of artistic angles to accompany the unfolding love story of Mint, the new BBC series also boasts some impressive shots of its surroundings. With our central characters Shannon (Emma Laird) and Arran (Benjamin Coyle-Larner) quickly embarking on their own whirlwind romance but being from opposing criminal families, the first episodes focus on their connection and literal spark. But with Arran not being a local in the area and having a brother who’s involved in making Shannon’s family’s lives more troublesome, their future hangs in the balance. However, the setting of the series is as much one of the characters of the series as anyone else, providing ample moody imagery and scenic landscapes to accompany the genre-bending story. So, where was Mint filmed? Read on for everything you need to know about the locations used in the BBC series, including some insight about the Scottish setting from the show’s creator Charlotte Regan. Nevada Police May Be Tracking Your Phone’s Location Without a Warrant. Here’s How.

Nevada Police May Be Tracking Your Phone’s Location Without a Warrant. Here’s How.

Nevada quietly signed an agreement earlier this year with a company that collects location data from cellphones, allowing police to track a device virtually in real time — all without a warrant. The software from Fog Data Science, adopted this January in Nevada through a Department of Public Safety contract, pulls information from smartphone apps in order to let state investigators identify the location of mobile devices. The state is allowed more than 250 queries a month using the tool, which allows officers to track a device’s location over long stretches of time and enables them to see what Fog calls “patterns of life,” according to company documents from 2022. It can help them deduce where and when people work and live, with whom they associate and what places they visit, according to privacy experts. Although Fog Data says that their data is made anonymous and “linked to devices … not people,” the company says the tool can help access information that “would otherwise remain hidden.” The company has a tool on their website that …

The exact political location where conspiracy theories thrive

The exact political location where conspiracy theories thrive

People who are most likely to believe in conspiracy theories tend to share a specific blend of political views, pairing a desire for left-wing economic policies with conservative cultural values. A recent analysis published in the journal Political Psychology maps the ideological coordinates of conspiracy thinking across Europe, revealing that it thrives in a very precise corner of the political landscape. The results point out that those who long for economic equality but demand strict cultural conformity are especially prone to believe that secret plots control global events. Conspiracy theories attract a diverse cast of characters, ranging from wellness influencers to alienated workers and political radicals. While psychologists have spent years studying the personality traits that make someone susceptible to such beliefs, less attention has been paid to the actual political demands of these individuals. Florian Buchmayr, a sociologist at the University of Bremen in Germany, wanted to understand what specific policy preferences unite people who see hidden agendas behind major events. Buchmayr and his co-author André Krouwel set out to map the political profiles …

Your Photos Are Probably Giving Away Your Location. Here’s How to Stop That

Your Photos Are Probably Giving Away Your Location. Here’s How to Stop That

Take a photo on any digital camera or smartphone and it’s not just the pixels that are saved. The image also gets a bunch of metadata appended to it, also known as EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data, including details of when it was taken, the device that was used to capture it, and the camera settings that were used. If your phone or camera has a GPS chip and is tracking your location, then this gets invisibly stamped on to the photo as well. That’s good if you want to look back at all the pictures you’ve ever taken in New York City or at Lizard Point, but not so good if you’re sharing pictures of your pets and don’t want to give away your home address at the same time. Any time a photo goes beyond the audience of just you, it’s important to think about the metadata attached to it—and if needed, you should delete the location stamp. How to View Photo Metadata A location-stamped photo in Google Photos on Android. Photograph: …

How to share your location on Android: 5 quick and easy ways – including by text

Ever notice the Personal Safety app on your phone? It’s Google’s built-in safety tool for emergencies and check-ins. It’s designed for situations like late-night walks, especially when you’re alone, and it can automatically send updates if you don’t respond. To set it up, open the app, go to Home tab, and tap Safety Check. If it’s your first time using Safety Check, tap the Set up button, choose your trusted contacts who you’d like to share with, and grant location permissions. You can also choose to share optional details, like your battery level. Going forward, when you want to use Safety Check, just tap it, select an activity like walking or create a custom one, set a duration timer, confirm which contacts should be notified (make sure the option to notify them is selected), and tap Start. If you don’t check in before the timer ends, your selected contacts will be alerted. If you want them to see your location in real time, tap Emergency sharing during your active Safety Check or from the Feature …

A French Navy officer accidentally leaked the location of an aircraft carrier by logging his run on Strava

A French Navy officer went for a run on the deck of the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier and uploaded his workout to Strava, inadvertently leaking the location of the nuclear-powered warship as it heads to the Middle East. First reported by French newspaper Le Monde, the story is not an anomaly — this popular fitness tracking app has proven to be a privacy nightmare before. By default, accounts on the social fitness app are set to public, publishing your route any time you log a workout. Strava data has previously been used to locate military bases around the world. In 2024, Le Monde uncovered French President Emmanuel Macron’s whereabouts by searching for the Strava accounts of his bodyguards, who uploaded public workout data while traveling with him. FBI is buying location data to track US citizens, director confirms

The FBI has resumed purchasing reams of Americans’ data and location histories to aid federal investigations, the agency’s director, Kash Patel, testified to lawmakers on Wednesday. This is the first time since 2023 that the FBI has confirmed it was buying access to people’s data collected from data brokers, who source much of their information — including location data — from ordinary consumer phone apps and games, per Politico. At the time, then-FBI director Christopher Wray told senators that the agency had bought access to people’s location data in the past but that it was not actively purchasing it. When asked by U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, Democrat of Oregon, if the FBI would commit to not buying Americans’ location data, Patel said that the agency “uses all tools … to do our mission.” “We do purchase commercially available information that is consistent with the Constitution and the laws under the Electronic Communications Privacy Act — and it has led to some valuable intelligence for us,” Patel testified Wednesday. Wyden said buying information on Americans without obtaining a …
