EuroHPC JU launches €8.5m “Lucy” photonic quantum computer

Europe has taken another step in the global race for advanced computing with the launch of a new photonic quantum computer near Paris. The system, named Lucy, reflects a broader strategy to strengthen technological sovereignty while accelerating research across science and industry. The machine has been deployed under the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU), a pan-European effort to build cutting-edge supercomputing and quantum infrastructure. Its arrival signals both technical progress and political intent: Europe wants to compete at the highest level in next-generation computing. A strategic launch at France’s leading supercomputing hub The inauguration ceremony took place at the Très Grand Centre de Calcul (TGCC) in Bruyères-le-Châtel, one of France’s primary high-performance computing (HPC) centres. The event was hosted by CEA in collaboration with GENCI. Senior policymakers and European officials attended, underlining the project’s significance. Among them were Anne Le Hénanff, Kilian Gross, and Anders Jensen. Their presence reflects how quantum computing has moved beyond research labs into the realm of strategic infrastructure. © Quandela EuroHPC JU’s Executive Director Anders Jensen highlighted Lucy’s transformative potential: …

Rebecca Lucy Taylor aka Self Esteem on her pivot from music to acting: ‘I felt a bit dead’

And that was just the start of it. “I felt very disturbed emotionally on Thursday,” she tells me, sipping a cup of tea. “I’m out of my depth and my comfort zone.” To blame? The unlikeliest theatrical collaboration of the year: Taylor is starring in a West End revival of David Hare’s 1975 play Teeth ’n’ Smiles. He’s a septuagenarian statesman of British theatre, who once wrote a theatrical portrait of Neil Kinnock so savage that the former Labour leader called it “the most uncomfortable three hours of my life”. She’s been deemed the musical oracle for female millennials; her gigs feature defiant choreography and women barking like dogs, and her official merch store sells a scarf emblazoned with the …

Piano used by John Lennon to write Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds breaks Beatles auction record | Ents & Arts News

The piano John Lennon used to compose some of his most notable songs for The Beatles has set the record for the most expensive piece of memorabilia sold from the band. Lennon used the Broadwood upright piano to write songs such as Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, A Day In The Life, and Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite!, which featured on The Beatles’ eighth studio album, Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The piano sold for nearly $3.3m (£2.5m) at Christie’s New York auction house after being estimated it would fetch between $400,000 and $600,000, setting the record as the most expensive object from The Beatles to be sold. Image: John Lennon’s piano. Pic: PA It was sold as part of The Jim Irsay Collection: Hall of Fame, which also included a drum kit by fellow Beatle Sir Ringo Starr and other music, film and sports memorabilia. The Beatles helped transform pop music in the 1960s, with Lennon, who died aged 40 in 1980, Sir Ringo, Sir Paul McCartney and George Harrison, …

Mistakes Were Made by Lucy Score

Mistakes Were Made by Lucy Score

There’s a recurring motif in Mistakes Were Made by Lucy Score that sums up the entire novel in a single glittering image: a disco ball. A shattered thing, fractured into dozens of jagged pieces, that somehow catches the light and turns a whole room into something magical. That’s essentially what Lucy Score does with this book. She takes two deeply imperfect people, throws them into close proximity in a tiny Pennsylvania town where even the bald eagle has an attitude problem, and waits for the sparks to fly. Mistakes Were Made by Lucy Score is the second installment in the Story Lake series, following the wildly popular Story of My Life, which introduced readers to romance novelist Hazel Hart and grumpy contractor Campbell Bishop. This time around, the spotlight shifts to Hazel’s best friend and literary agent, Zoey Moody, and Cam’s equally handsome but far more buttoned-up brother, Gage Bishop. If Story of My Life was a warm hug of a debut, this sequel is its louder, messier, more emotionally complicated sister who shows up …

Lucy Raven’s New Film Captures a Dam Removal in the Pacific Northwest

The 42-minute piece is the final part of a trilogy titled “The Drumfire,” which also includes the 2021 film Ready Mix, a meditation on processes involved in making concrete at a plant in Idaho, and the 2022 films Demolition of a Wall (Album 1 & 2), which focus on shockwaves visible in the air at an explosives testing range in New Mexico. The rise and fall of Lucy and Yak: how the millennial favourite fell foul of the internet

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more I am a Caucasian woman in her late thirties who works in media and resides in a creative seaside town. That’s probably all the information you need to glean that I have at least two pairs of Lucy & Yak dungarees. (And three pairs of their trousers. And two floor-length skirts. And a boiler suit.) I’m not alone; the vast majority of the women and non-binary people I know have similar collections in the brand’s distinctive colour palette and range of bold prints. Lucy & Yak is a legitimate success story – an initially small, British company that became an almost overnight sensation after launching in 2017. It was founded by Lucy Greenwood and Chris Renwick, two northerners who dreamt up the idea of …
