Traffic chaos on M6 as crash disruption to last for ‘four hours’ | UK | News

Drivers are being cautioned about delays of up to four hours following a collision on the M6 near Preston. The incident is believed to have occurred on the southbound carriageway between junctions 31 and 29. National Highways has confirmed that “normal traffic conditions” are not expected to resume until between 12.45am and 1am. Photographs circulating on Facebook show drivers standing on the central reservation, with at least one lane appearing to have been shut. A National Highways spokesperson said: “The M6 in Lancashire southbound between J31-J30 traffic has been stopped due to a road traffic collision. Congestion continues to build in the area, with motorway cameras showing heavy delays. National Highways confirmed that all lanes are closed due to the road traffic collision. Witnesses told the Manchester Evening News that a “serious crash” occurred near Carrington. Police and Highways officers are still on site, and diversions have been put in place.
