Martin Lewis scam ads ‘worse than ever’

Martin Lewis at the BAFTA Television Special Award Media Breakfast on Wednesday 29 April 2026 in London. Picture: BAFTA/Scott Garfitt Financial journalist Martin Lewis CBE has said social media scam ads that use his name and face to dupe unsuspecting consumers have become “worse than ever”. Lewis sued Facebook for defamation in 2018 over ads appearing on the platform which stole his image and settled the case after Meta agreed to donate £3m to charity and create a new reporting button. But such ads continue to proliferate years later, conning people out of money by wrongly making them believe Lewis has backed questionable financial products. Lewis was speaking at a press conference on Wednesday as it was announced he had been awarded the BAFTA Television Special Award in recognition of his “extraordinary and lasting impact on British consumers and public life”. Lewis founded the Money Saving Expert consumer finance website, has an ITV show called The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, and is a presenter and expert on Good Morning Britain. In response to a …

The Royal Mail has hiked the cost of a first-class stamp has risen by 10p to £1.80. The increase came into effect on Tuesday (April 7), the Royal Mail said. Royal Mail blamed the price rise on falling numbers of letters being sent, combined with an increased number of addresses. Royal Mail’s managing director of letters, Richard Travers, said: “We always consider price changes very carefully, balancing affordability with the rising cost of delivering mail. “On average, UK adults now spend just £6.50 each year on stamps and there are 70% fewer letters sent than 20 years ago. Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert advises drivers to check licence now

Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert (MSE) team has issued a reminder as millions of drivers could be at risk of a £1,000 fine. In an update on January 27, 2026, MSE revealed: “Almost 2.3 million driving licences were set to expire last year, with drivers risking a fine of up to £1,000 if they get behind the wheel with one that’s out of date.” The expert is now urging drivers to act today by checking whether their licence is still valid and, if not, renewing it. Some motorists may even be able to update their details for free. Renewing late won’t get you fined, but if your licence has expired, the DVLA says you shouldn’t drive until it has received your completed renewal application. Urging people to look at the expiry date and act in plenty of time, it warns: “Photocard licences replaced paper licences in 1998, and must be renewed every 10 years. “According to Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) data obtained by Co-op Insurance, almost 2.3 million licences were set to expire last year.” …

Drivers urged to fill up with petrol before Friday | Weather | News

Drivers have been instructed to complete one task before Friday, with experts advising against driving without doing so. Wintery weather is on its way this week, with snow and low temperatures forecast. The Met Office said that between February 3 and 12, the weather will be largely unsettled, bringing showers or longer spells of rain across the UK. It may also be rather windy at times, especially towards the southwest. Towards the northeast, colder conditions will remain, with the risk of colder air pushing further southwest, increasing the chance of snowfall. Although snow is more likely on higher ground, some snow at lower levels cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will be close to average for most, but perhaps colder in the northeast. An often brisk wind will accentuate the colder feel, especially in coastal districts. As we move through the forecast, confidence lowers over whether milder air from the southwest will dominate or whether colder air from the east will move in more bodily. With this weather on the way, experts at Motors.co.uk have told …

Keeping heating on low all day ‘myth’ says energy expert | UK | News

An energy expert has delivered his verdict on the practice of keeping the heating on all day at a low temperature in an attempt to save energy and keep bills down. Advocates of this approach claim it’s more efficient for warming a home than switching the heating on and off repeatedly. The debate divides specialists. Some believe it can indeed be beneficial. Experts at Heat Geek suggest the ‘low and slow’ approach has certain advantages. They argue that if you possess a modern boiler or heat pump, remain at home throughout the day, or spend the majority of your evenings and weekends indoors, this strategy could be worthwhile. However, Martin Lewis’s MSE website takes a firm stance on the issue – and they disagree with Heat Geek. They maintain that “leaving the heating on all day leads to greater heat loss and means higher cost”. Now an industrial engineer and energy consumption specialist has weighed in with his assessment, reports the Mirror. Jorge Morales de Labra told the COPE Spanish language radio station that maintaining …
