Mel Brooks had a galactic announcement at CinemaCon: the title for the forthcoming Spaceballs sequel. No, it’s not Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money. It’s simply Spaceballs: The New One, as he revealed via a video at CinemaCon on Wednesday night. The feature is the sequel to Brooks’ seminal 1987 Star Wars parody, which he directed and co-wrote. Original members of the cast returning include Rick Moranis, George Wyner, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman and Brooks. Pullman’s son, Thunderbolts and Top Gun: Maverick actor Lewis Pullman, is among the new castmembers, along with Josh Gad, Keke Palmer and Anthony Carrigan. Their roles are a secret, though The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that the younger Pullman will play the son of his father’s character, the Han Solo-esque Lone Starr. Josh Greenbaum is directing from a script by Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. The feature has a release date of April 23, 2027, from Amazon MGM Studios. They are one of the most popular girl bands in history, yet the Spice Girls have never sat down for a documentary, telling their story of becoming a global phenomenon in their own words. Recently, fans pointed out they were notably missing in the BBC’s Girlbands Forever series, despite being heavily mentioned throughout, and it doesn’t seem they’ll be sitting down for a documentary anytime soon. With the Spice Girls fast approaching their 30th anniversary, Mel B explained that despite the women “thinking about” coming together for a tell-all programme, there aren’t any immediate plans for it. “I think we’ve all been asked and were all thinking about it at some point,” she told Hello! in a recent interview. “But it has to be done in the right way, and it has to be honest – and not everybody wants to be honest.” When asked if the group would ever embark on a reunion tour to celebrate the milestone, the idea was quickly shut down, with Mel B telling the publication: “I can tell you …

The Schwartz is with the forthcoming sequel to Spaceballs. Amazon MGM Studios‘ feature follow-up to the 1987 original film is set for wide theatrical release April 23, 2027, the studio announced Friday. Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman and George Wyner reprise their roles from the first one, while newcomers to the cast include Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman and Anthony Carrigan. Josh Greenbaum is helming the comedy from a script by Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Producing the film are Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Jeb Brody for Imagine Entertainment, alongside Gad, Brooks, Greenbaum and Kevin Salter.
