Russell aims for Montreal rebound as Mercedes brings key upgrade

MONTREAL, May 21 : George Russell said there was no need to panic ahead of a Canadian Grand Prix weekend that could see championship-leading Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli take his fourth Formula One win in a row. Russell, 20 points off the championship lead, arrives at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve with Mercedes bringing their first major upgrade of the season, after McLaren and Ferrari introduced developments in Miami. “It’s just another race for me, and it’s not even on my mind — the championship,” Russell told reporters on Thursday. “There’s no need to panic at all. As we said we’re four races down, 18 at least to go.” “Our numbers look pretty promising,” he added of the upgrade. “But until we drive it on track, there’s always going to be a few unknowns.” The Briton said race launches remained Mercedes’ clearest weakness, although improvements were unlikely to come immediately. “The starts are a big focus for us because that’s clearly our biggest weak point,” he said. “We know short term it’s going to be difficult to …

F2 races rescheduled to Miami and Montreal in North American first

LONDON, April 9 : Formula Two races originally scheduled for Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will be added to Formula One grand prix weekends in Miami and Montreal next month in the series’ first foray into North America. The second and third rounds of the season, after the opener in Australia in March, were called off due to U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran and after Iranian drones and missiles hit some Gulf capitals. Formula Two said in a statement on Thursday that it will race on the continent for the first time in Miami on May 1-3 and Montreal on May 22-24. The second round of the season would otherwise not have been until Monaco in early June.  “It was not an easy thing to do, but bringing F2 to North America for the first time is really fantastic,” said CEO Bruno Michel. “It’s something we have been wanting to do for a long time, and it enables us to ensure we’re back racing as quickly as possible.” Formula One has not rescheduled its grands …

A Montreal Narco Network Busted For Allegedly Smuggling Super Fentanyl Into America

Submitted by The Bureau’s Sam Cooper, An elite Montreal-based narco network allegedly exported carfentanil and next-generation synthetic opioids 100 times deadlier than fentanyl to American consumers via the dark web, leading to the arrest of four yesterday, after 13 months of joint surveillance by U.S. federal agencies and Quebec police, and a seizure of more than 600,000 tablets of synthetic drugs in December. The four suspects charged are reportedly connected, through their alleged street gang affiliate, to the Wolfpack Alliance — a network tied by DEA sources to a British Columbia fentanyl superlab, and by Canadian law enforcement and expert sources to Canadian outlaw motorcycle gangs, Iranian organized crime, and the Sinaloa Cartel. On Wednesday, Quebec’s ENRCO — the unit mandated specifically to target organized crime leadership — arrested four residents of Montreal’s South Shore suburbs on charges connected to a network that had been, for more than a year, allegedly manufacturing and exporting carfentanil and industrial quantities of substances newer and deadlier than fentanyl to consumers in the United States. The investigation was conducted …

All-New Apple Store Now Open in Downtown Montréal

All-New Apple Store Now Open in Downtown Montréal

Apple’s Sainte-Catherine store in Montréal, Canada has a new home at the northeast corner of Rue Saint-Catherine and Rue de la Montagne. The location officially opened to the public today, and the first people who visited received a complimentary tote bag and toque (the Canadian term for what Americans call a beanie), the latter of which will come in handy given Montréal’s temperature is currently hovering around -15ºC (5ºF). The store spans the first floor of a historic building that was extensively renovated for Apple. The second and third floors are not accessible to customers. The new space is more than double the size of Apple’s original location on Rue Saint-Catherine, which is now permanently closed. There are side-by-side counters for the Genius Bar and Apple Pickup, where customers can receive technical support and collect items they ordered through Apple’s online store, respectively. The interior design of the store is familiar, but there are a few unique elements, including the entrance and a curved wood ceiling. Apple says the store’s façade blends historic Saint-Marc stone …
