A Pentagon List Overhaul Puts Mormon Church’s Christian Identity Back in the Spotlight

The Pentagon’s revision to its list of Christian religions this week has reignited a nearly 200-year-old debate: Is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a Christian denomination? Most Latter-day Saints do see themselves as Christians. But there are many prominent Christian clergy and scholars who disagree, citing core differences in how they view God and the Trinity and revere a scripture that is not part of the two-testament Christian Bible. Utah U.S. Senators Mike Lee and John Curtis, both Republicans and Latter-day Saints, challenged the Pentagon’s exclusion of their faith from its list of Christian religions. What follows, though, is gripping TV, recorded as it happened, but paced like a thriller. Having gained the community’s trust, the couple discover a …

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives stars have been embroiled in controversy following a February altercation, which resulted in Mortensen filing a domestic violence complaint and Paul counter-claiming assault. That, combined with leaked footage from a 2023 incident that led to Paul’s arrest, resulted in the cancellation of her headlining season of The Bachelorette and his being edited out of the new season of Vanderpump Villa. Filming on season five of SLOMW has also been paused. Last week, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office said that an investigation into domestic violence claims from Mortensen — the father of Paul’s two-year-old son — stemming from the February incident, as well as a 2024 altercation, …
