A county in the US state of California has become the latest litigant against Meta Platforms, the sprawling multinational corporation that operates Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Threads. The lawsuit filed earlier this week by Santa Clara County alleges that Meta knowingly profits from scam advertising, which it says generated $7bn in annual revenue. Waymo Faces Mounting Scrutiny as NTSB Examines School Bus Incident
Waymo, the self-driving ridesharing company, is mired in a growing number of safety incidents. While the company lately has been focused on launching in four new cities and transitioning to a new next-gen driving system, it faces a National Transportation Safety Board investigation over incidents in which vehicles illegally passed stopped school buses. Waymo is also contending with high-profile criticism after a viral video showed one of its robotaxis blocking an ambulance headed to the scene of a mass shooting in Austin, Texas. And the company is answering to city leaders in San Francisco about an incident last year in which Waymo vehicles became unresponsive and stalled during a power outage in December. Liz Truss has been slammed online after she claimed that “the extreme left are mounting an armed insurrection” in America. On Saturday morning, a Reddit user who has posted about living in Minneapolis for years shared a video on the city’s subreddit, r/Minneapolis, with the title “Another ICE murder in front of Glam Doll Donuts.” The 40-second clip showed a group of federal agents tackling 37-year-old Alex Pretti to the ground and beating him. About 20 seconds in, one of them begins shooting Pretti. At least ten gunshots go off, from multiple agents, and a person can be heard yelling “Did they fucking kill that guy? Are you fucking kidding me dude? Not again.” (The agents who fired on Pretti have not been charged, nor has ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who shot and killed Minneapolis resident Renee Nicole Good on January 7.
