‘Rapists and murderers’ in Russian army rampage while home from front

Russian soldiers at home have been killing, maiming, raping and looting at record rates since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Moscow’s garrison military courts have seen a more than tenfold increase in murder cases involving servicemen in the past few years. They received 729 such cases between 2022 and 2025, compared to just 67 in the four years before the war, according to the data reviewed by Vot Tak, a Warsaw-based Russian-language outlet . The Russian armed forces expanded by just one-and-a-half times in the same period. The number of murders also appears to be increasing year-on-year. In 2025, the total sum was one-and-a-half times more than in 2024 and 16 times more than in the first year of the full-scale war. Almost three quarters of murder cases were committed while the perpetrator was intoxicated, according to Vot Tak. Elizabeth Arnott presents us with three L.A. women who have lived through the last scenario in “The Secret Lives of Murderers’ Wives,” an empathetic and at times bracing mystery tale about unlikely crime solvers circa 1966. “I loved the idea of taking three wives and putting them into a situation where they had to profile these killers,” says Arnott via Zoom from her pink-walled London writing studio on …

Double murderer’s final words before his execution revealed | World | News

A Texan man on death row said, shortly before being administered a lethal injection, that his execution “creates more victims and traumatises more people 28 years” after his crimes. In his last words, he also expressed hope that his victims’ families could “find forgiveness in their heart”. Charles Victor Thompson, 55, was found guilty of the brutal shooting of his ex-girlfriend Glenda Dennise Hayslip and her new partner Darren Keith Cain at her home in 1998. Before the execution was carried out, he said: “I hope the victims’ family, their extended family, and their loved ones can find forgiveness in their heart and that you can begin to heal and move past this. [There is] no winner in this situation, it creates more victims and traumatises more people 28 years later. “I’m sorry for what I did. I’m sorry for what happened, and I want to tell all of y’all, I love you and that keep Jesus in your life, keep Jesus first.” Thompson died via lethal injection at the Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville …
