Locarno 2026 Political Film Makers With Pseudonyms: Filmsaaz, Neozoon

James Gray and Darren Aronofsky are among the big-name filmmakers getting honored at the 79th edition of the Locarno Film Festival this August. But the 2026 lineup of the Swiss festival also showcases all sorts of newer and emerging filmmakers from around the globe. Their names may not be widely known yet, but buzz at a festival, such as Locarno, could, of course, open doors and bring support for more projects ahead. Some of these up-and-coming filmmakers, however, create cinematic experiences not under their legal names, but pseudonyms. Cases in point: Filmsaaz and Neozoon, whose works are featured in this year’s Pardi di Domani, or “Leopards of Tomorrow, program.” The name of the program is a reference to Locarno’s Leopard awards and is designed to provide “a vital space for expressive experimentation and innovative forms of cinematic poetry,” the festival says.
