Iranians cautiously optimistic about thorny deal with US | US-Israel war on Iran News

Tehran, Iran – The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Iran and the United States has survived its first few rocky days, producing a roadmap to a potential long-term resolution of the war launched by the US and Israel nearly four months ago. Months of tough political and technical discussions still lie ahead, however, and while Iranians are watching closely, optimism remains checked. Recommended Stories list of 4 itemsend of list “We got from daily bombing to talking about buying corn from the US,” Ehsan, who lives in central Tehran, told Al Jazeera. “So, that’s a good change, but our quality of life is still getting worse by the day.” He was referring to news that Iran will be able to buy humanitarian goods, including food and medicine, by using some of its own funds frozen abroad that are ostensibly to be released as part of the agreement. Iran’s central bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati said in a video message on Tuesday that Tehran could buy corn and wheat and other agricultural products from the US …

A Waymo nearly hit me, but I’m still optimistic about driverless cars

A Waymo nearly hit me, but I’m still optimistic about driverless cars

Waymo driverless cars are in London, but is this a positive move for road safety? Richard Baker/In Pictures via Getty images Waymo’s driverless cars have been rolling through London for months, although they aren’t taking passengers yet and a human sits ready to seize control if needed. Every time I’ve encountered them, they have seemed cautious and predictable. But recently, I had a near miss. I was circling a roundabout as I cycled home from work and a Waymo was about to pull onto it in front of me. I had priority, but it didn’t seem to be slowing and looked to be heading straight for me, then suddenly stopped. It wasn’t the scariest incident I’ve had on a bike – it wasn’t even the worst one that day. I didn’t feel in serious danger; I had seen it happening and was ready. The incident only stood out among the dozens of tense moments that happen on every commute because it was AI behind the wheel, not a person. Out of curiosity, I sent Waymo …

TEFAF New York 2026 Opens With Strong Crowds and Optimistic Dealers

TEFAF New York 2026 Opens With Strong Crowds and Optimistic Dealers

By 4 p.m. on Thursday, the aisles of TEFAF New York at the Park Avenue Armory should have started thinning out. Instead, dealers were still pinned into conversations, collectors crowded around vitrines, and the low roar that had echoed though the building since the doors opened for its VIP day at 11 a.m. had barely let up. “This is probably the best TEFAF I’ve seen for a long time,” dealer Sean Kelly said after making several laps around the fair. “People are really, really enjoying this thing. It’s as if, after years of keeping our heads down and trying to get through the depression the Trump administration has forced of the country, everyone’s decided start enjoying themselves again.”  Related Articles That sense of momentum hovered over the entire fair. TEFAF, which runs through Tuesday, May 19, has always occupied a different lane from the rest of New York’s May fairs: the lighting is warmer, the champagne more effervescent, the pace slower. And, this year’s edition also arrived with a sharper sense of confidence than the …

Earnings Estimate Revisions Are Very Optimistic

Earnings Estimate Revisions Are Very Optimistic

Authored by Lance Roberts via RealInvestmentAdvice.com, 💰 Earnings Estimate Revisions Are Very Optimistic Last week, we discussed the S&P earnings record and why such record earnings could be a warning for the market. I want to continue that discussion by focusing not only on what has happened but also on what is expected to happen in the future. While the Q1 2026 earnings results are spectacular, so far, the earnings estimate revisions behind them are the real story. The first-quarter 2026 earnings season is delivering results that Wall Street rarely sees. With roughly two-thirds of the S&P 500 having reported, the blended growth rate has climbed to 27.1% year-over-year, more than double the 13.2% that consensus modeled at the end of the quarter on March 31. If that figure holds, it will be the strongest year-over-year print since the post-COVID rebound quarter of Q4 2021. 84% of companies have beaten EPS, 81% have beaten revenue, and the average earnings surprise sits at 20.7%, nearly three times the 5-year average of 7.3%. That’s the surface story. The more …

Leon Kennedy actor is “cautiously optimistic” for Resident Evil movie

Leon Kennedy actor is “cautiously optimistic” for Resident Evil movie

With Resident Evil Requiem being a smash hit for Capcom, reaching new heights for the series, it further highlights just how naff a lot of the Resident Evil films were, and how IP might ultimately be best suited to the medium of video games, as Ben Starr believes Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is. However, there is another Resident Evil film in the works from Weapons director Zach Cregger, with Austin Abrams acting as the lead. Arguably, Resident Evil’s most famous protagonist is none other than Leon S Kennedy, and so during the BAFTA Games Awards 2026, Radio Times caught up with the man behind the new voice of Leon, Nick Apostolides, to gauge his thoughts on the upcoming movie. “I am very cautiously optimistic.” Apostolides told us, adding that “I’ve been let down in the past”. Being more optimistic can lower dementia risk by 15%

Being more optimistic can lower dementia risk by 15%

Get the Well Enough newsletter with Harry Bullmore for tips on living a healthier, happier and longer life Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Having a sunnier outlook on life doesn’t just improve mood – it can lead to a healthier life for years to come. Living more optimistically cut the risk of developing dementia in people’s later years by at least 15 percent, researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health said Wednesday. The findings could have a major impact on the future of dementia prevention in the U.S. Roughly 7.2 million are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a figure that is projected to nearly double by 2050, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. But adjusting one’s attitude could help turn the tide – or at least become a larger part of clinical efforts to fight dementia, the researchers believe. Optimism lowers the stress hormone cortisol and levels of harmful inflammation in the brain, which have both been linked to dementia. “Identifying optimism …

The 2026 Oscars were (almost) optimistic

The 2026 Oscars were (almost) optimistic

When Conan O’Brien made his debut as Academy Awards host last year, the comedian was tasked with the unenviable duty of grabbing hold of a world plunging rapidly into darkness and despair and lifting it back into the light, if only for one night. In March 2025, Donald Trump had returned to power, Los Angeles was just beginning to recover from devastating wildfires and Oscar discourse had reached new, angry heights. A year and some change later, the magnitude of those events seems infinitesimal compared to each day’s headline news — nothing eclipses domestic climate disasters like international climate catastrophes imposed by an oligarch sanctioning a war in Iran for fun. But the need for levity remains. Hope is a vital yet scarce resource, and a show designed to celebrate art and the artists who make it, being broadcast to hundreds of millions of people around the world, has the potential to instill hope on a mass scale. Throw in the fact that Ryan Coogler’s historical horror smash “Sinners” was up for a record 16 …

The one change that worked: When good things happen, I write them down – and it’s made me more optimistic | Life and style

The one change that worked: When good things happen, I write them down – and it’s made me more optimistic | Life and style

Growing up, I was envious of one type of person. It was never the kids who were smarter, sportier or more popular. My awe was reserved for a rarer breed of people: optimists. I was hypersensitive to the ease with which they sailed through exams, social gatherings or teenage milestones with a sunny conviction that things would more or less work out. To me, they were the chosen people. “It’ll be fine,” one such friend would reassure me. “Or you could embarrass yourself,” my mind would purr like a villain. “Be rejected. Fail.” I was a chronic worrier. A negative Nancy. I couldn’t fathom that people’s brains weren’t hardwired to compulsively fear things might go wrong. I grew up as the eldest daughter in a turbulent household where my father’s moods would plummet quickly and I walked on a knife-edge. Every morning, the second my eyes opened, I would force myself to accept it was going to be a bad day – an act of self-preservation so the rug could never get pulled from under …
