SNL UK: Richard Osman shares verdict as opening show divides viewers

The programme’s first instalment opened with a monologue from SNL stalwart comedian Tina Fey, 55, who joked she was on stage to host the programme because no British performer wanted to do it. The best-selling author and former Pointless co-presenter has been easing viewers into their evenings as the face of the self-titled series since its launch on BBC Two in 2017. But he revealed on his Rest is Entertainment podcast that, after one last week of filming, the show “will no longer be Richard Osman’s House of Games”. He continued: “It will be somebody else’s House of Games. I gladly hand over the keys. BBC viewers have been left “absolutely gutted” after TV presenter Richard Osman announced he would be stepping down from his beloved show, Richard Osman’s House of Games, after nine years at the helm. It’s that time of year again and the New Years Honours list for 2026 has now been unveiled, with plenty of recognisable famous faces from the world of British TV, film, music and sport all being recognised. Known for his roles in shows like The Wire, Luther and Hijack, Idris Elba has been given a knighthood for his charity work with young people. Alongside his acting career, Elba has launched an anti-knife crime campaign as well as founding the Elba Hope Foundation with his wife Sabrina.
