SNL UK: Richard Osman shares verdict as opening show divides viewers

The programme’s first instalment opened with a monologue from SNL stalwart comedian Tina Fey, 55, who joked she was on stage to host the programme because no British performer wanted to do it. Among opening night viewers was former House of Games and Pointless co-presenter Richard Osman (OBE), who said he was “loving” SNL UK, as he voiced his opinion from the safety of his sofa on X/Twitter. The best-selling author and former Pointless co-presenter has been easing viewers into their evenings as the face of the self-titled series since its launch on BBC Two in 2017. But he revealed on his Rest is Entertainment podcast that, after one last week of filming, the show “will no longer be Richard Osman’s House of Games”. He continued: “It will be somebody else’s House of Games. I gladly hand over the keys. I just wanted to go on record saying how much I love it and loved it.” In a follow-up statement, he described his time on the show as “such a great pleasure and honour”. Richard Osman has announced that he is stepping down from his BBC game show House Of Games after almost a decade at the helm. On Tuesday morning, the former Pointless host confirmed that the current season of House Of Games would be his last. However, fans of the format needn’t worry, as he’s confirmed that it will continue to air with a new host. Announcing the news on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment, he confirmed: “I am leaving House Of Games. It will no longer be Richard Osman’s House Of Games – it will be somebody else’s House Of Games. BBC viewers have been left “absolutely gutted” after TV presenter Richard Osman announced he would be stepping down from his beloved show, Richard Osman’s House of Games, after nine years at the helm. The popular TV presenter, who is also the author behind The Thursday Murder Club franchise, announced the news on his podcast, The Rest is Entertainment, which he co-hosts with journalist Marina Hyde.  Richard Osman departs House of Games The presenter paired the announcement with a statement on Instagram, which was also posted on the official House of Games account. “Big news from ROHOG HQ! It’s that time of year again and the New Years Honours list for 2026 has now been unveiled, with plenty of recognisable famous faces from the world of British TV, film, music and sport all being recognised. Known for his roles in shows like The Wire, Luther and Hijack, Idris Elba has been given a knighthood for his charity work with young people. Alongside his acting career, Elba has launched an anti-knife crime campaign as well as founding the Elba Hope Foundation with his wife Sabrina.
