Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs asks US appeals court to overturn sentence

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs asks US appeals court to overturn sentence

Prosecutors disagreed and pointed to an instance where Combs showed Ventura he had videos of her engaging in sex parties hours before another “freak-off” in an apparent bid to ensure her continued participation. “These incidents are specifically tied to transportation,” prosecutor Christy Slavik told the court.  In a sign of the complex legal arguments, Slavik at one point drew an analogy of pizza to highlight how certain “slices” of evidence were relevant to the ultimate sentencing decision. The court did not issue an immediate ruling in what one judge, William Nardini, called an “exceptionally difficult case.” Combs is also appealing his conviction though that was not discussed in detail on Thursday. He is being held in the low-security Fort Dix prison in New Jersey and is due for release in spring 2028.  Source link

Tesla sues to overturn its own FSD false advertising ruling

Tesla sues to overturn its own FSD false advertising ruling

Tesla has filed a lawsuit against the California Department of Motor Vehicles seeking to reverse the administrative ruling that found the automaker engaged in false advertising with its “Autopilot” and “Full Self-Driving” marketing. The move comes just days after Tesla complied with the DMV’s demands to clean up its marketing language — raising the question of why the company is fighting a ruling it already capitulated to. The lawsuit In a complaint dated February 13, Tesla’s attorneys alleged that the DMV “wrongfully and baselessly” labeled the automaker a “false advertiser” for its prior use of the terms Autopilot and Full Self-Driving. Tesla argues that the DMV never proved consumers were actually confused about whether its cars were safe to drive without a human at the wheel. Tesla also made a remarkable argument: that the DMV had known about its use of “Autopilot” branding since 2014 and “Full Self-Driving” since 2016, essentially claiming a statute of limitations on misleading the public. This is the same argument Tesla tried in 2023, the idea that it had been …

Ukrainian skeleton racer fails to overturn Olympics ban at top court – POLITICO

However, after an appeal, CAS backed the IOC, saying that although it was fully sympathetic to Heraskevych’s decision to commemorate his compatriots, the focus must be on the Olympic Games and other athletes. Heraskevych said his helmet displayed only portraits and no political slogans, and that he was disqualified before the race, so he did not violate any rules. “The court sided with the IOC and upheld a decision that an athlete could be disqualified from the Olympic Games without actual misconduct, without a technical or safety threat, and before the start,” Pronin Law Firm, representing Heraskevych, said in a statement after the decision. “This case was much broader than an individual dispute. It concerned the freedom of expression of athletes, the limits of discretion of sports bodies, and the very understanding of Olympic values,” the firm added. Source link

GOP’s anti-Obamacare push helps overturn Wyoming abortion ban

GOP’s anti-Obamacare push helps overturn Wyoming abortion ban

The Wyoming Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that the state’s two near-total abortion bans were unconstitutional. One law banned all abortions except extreme circumstances such as protecting a pregnant woman’s life and cases involving rape or incest. The other law banned the sale, prescription and distribution of abortion-inducing drugs — the first of its kind in the US. Both passed in 2023, one year after the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health ruling. The Wyoming Supreme Court found Tuesday that both these laws violated a 2012 state constitutional amendment. Pushed by Wyoming Republicans in the wake of the passage of the Affordable Care Act and added into the state constitution by voter referendum, the amendment states that “each competent adult shall have the right to make his or her own health care decisions.” “That’s what this is about, my fellow senators, I think it’s about choice, about whether you’re free to choose it, about whether you’re free not to choose it,” state Sen. Drew Perkins said in 2011, referring to private healthcare …
