Waymo said it’s making “temporary adjustments” to its robotaxi service in San Francisco amidst a power outage that appears to have affected around 7,000 PG&E customers in the city. According to a screenshot posted on social media, Waymo is telling SF customers that service is “temporarily paused” and that “freeway routes are unavailable.” When TechCrunch reached out to the Alphabet-owned company for comment, a spokesperson said in a statement, “We are making temporary adjustments to our service while we monitor local conditions. We know riders depend on us, and we will return to normal operations as soon as possible.” This isn’t the first time power outages have caused issues for Waymo. A number of Waymo vehicles stalled on city streets during a blackout in December, and a similar incident paralyzed traffic during a Golden Gate Bridge fireworks show on the Fourth of July. As a result, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has called for tougher state regulations to “adequately address how autonomous vehicles operate during major incidents, planned or not.” Source link

The icon is currently on a global tour, thought by some to be his farewell to live shows, with last night’s stop-off being in West Valley City, Utah, in the United States, a show began like any other performance. However, things took a turn partway through, when Stewart appeared unsteady on his feet, relying on set dressing for support. Moments later, staffers came on stage to offer physical support and an oxygen canister. Not one to leave a crowd disappointed, Stewart announced that the “show must go on” but told the audience he “nearly f***ing fainted” before proceeding with the performance. DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Israel and Iran appeared to back away from further strikes Monday, hours after they traded fire for the first time since the U.S. agreed to a ceasefire with Tehran two months ago. Both countries warned that they were ready to launch retaliatory attacks if provoked. The renewed hostilities raised concerns that the Middle East could plunge back into a full-scale war. Since the U.S. and Israel began striking Iran on Feb. 28, the war has shaken the global economy, driven up energy prices around the world and made many basics, including food, more expensive. Waymo has now paused service in four cities because its robotaxis are struggling to deal with heavy rain and flooded roads, a problem that already prompted the company to issue a recall last week. One of Waymo’s robotaxis was spotted driving through a flooded street in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday before it ultimately got stuck for about an hour, according to local news reports. Opposition to President Donald Trump’s plan for a gas tax holiday to ease cost-of-living concerns is coming not just from his political foes, but also from the Republican-leaning trucking and construction sectors. Those industries rely heavily on the road and transportation infrastructure projects funded by the federal gas and diesel taxes. “A gas tax holiday is a good way to blow a hole in the collection of revenue for funding highway and transit repairs, but it’s a bad way to help drivers who are affected by higher gas prices,” said Brian Turmail, national spokesman for the Associated General Contractors of America, a construction industry trade group.  Gas prices are up about 50% since the Iran war began on Feb. 28, clocking in at $4.50 a gallon on Tuesday, according to AAA.
