Did This Photographer’s Provocative Work Inspire ‘The Drama’?

Did This Photographer’s Provocative Work Inspire ‘The Drama’?

This article includes spoilers for The Drama, which is now playing theatrically. By now, you’ve probably heard that The Drama, a new film by Kristoffer Borgli that stars Robert Pattinson and Zendaya as a soon-to-be-married couple, has what many are calling a “twist.” In actuality, it’s more of a reveal, and it happens about a half hour in: Emma (Zendaya) reveals to Charlie (Pattinson) and her friends that she planned to shoot up her school as a kid but failed to execute on the plan. This disclosure causes Charlie, a chief curator at the fictional Cambridge Art Museum, to spiral and doubt their relationship. Related Articles In one key scene, Charlie comes across a photobook called Brainrot that features young women posed with guns. He becomes so obsessed, in fact, that he begins to fantasize about Emma as though she were posed as one of the girls in the book. In his mind, she’s in bed, wearing only her underwear and suggestively cradling a rifle. Brainrot is not real, but it does seem to have …

No More Screaming: How Red-Carpet Photographers Learned to Play Nice With the Stars

No More Screaming: How Red-Carpet Photographers Learned to Play Nice With the Stars

But of course, there are exceptions. Another female photographer, who has been working carpets for about 10 years, says that gender parity doesn’t always lead to a healthier environment; the photographer Roan yelled at at the VMAs was a woman. “It’s a little more balanced,” she says. “But unfortunately, some of the most toxic people are women.” As in other industries, some women may feel like they have to replicate the behavior of their male predecessors to fit in or get a leg up. “That’s residual of just women having to adapt and be seen as equal—and that includes being equally, and more, offensive,” the photographer says. Along with COVID, the rise of social media dramatically shifted the photography environment. Longtime photographer Jeff Kravitz points out that the Grammys photo pit used to pen in around 75 photographers. This year, it only housed around 14 of them by his count—and the back rows were used instead for social media reps from various publications, many of whom were taking video. Those social media reporters have a …

Pentagon Blocks Photographers From Hegseth’s Briefings on the Iran War

Pentagon Blocks Photographers From Hegseth’s Briefings on the Iran War

NEW YORK (AP) — The Pentagon has not permitted photographers to cover Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s last two briefings on the war in Iran, and hasn’t explained the change in longstanding policy. A Pentagon spokesman, Joel Valdez, declined to comment for this story. The Defense Department under Hegseth has had a contentious relationship with the news media assigned to cover him. Most mainstream news organizations have left their desks at the Pentagon rather than accept new Trump administration rules that restrict their movements and who they can talk to. They’ve been replaced at the Pentagon by a newly constituted press corps that agreed to the rules and to a large extent work for outlets that are supportive of President Donald Trump. The Pentagon has been giving passes to reporters who vacated their desks at the Pentagon in order to attend Hegseth’s briefings on the war. Although Hegseth infrequently recognizes those legacy news reporters at the briefings, he did call on one of them, Eric Schmitt of The New York Times, on Tuesday. The Times has …

Five photographers on assignment for Le Monde share their most striking images from 2025

After a Russian airstrike in Kyiv, July 31, 2025. JEDRZEJ NOWICKI Jedrzej Nowicki: 5:16 am, July 31, 2025. A summer day is breaking over Kyiv. In front of a khrushchevka [a type of brick apartment building that became common in the former Soviet Union in the early 1960s], a man stands with a bandaged head trickling blood. A smoldering cigarette butt hangs from the corner of his mouth. His gaze is lost in the distance as he clutches an old stool to his chest. Is this all that remains of his life? Behind him, flames are engulfing his apartment. Scenes like this are no longer rare in Kyiv. In 2025, Russian attacks on the capital intensified significantly. According to United24 [a platform managed by the Ukrainian government], Russia used more than 60,000 guided aerial bombs against Ukraine, over 2,000 missiles and more than 100,000 drones. Air raid sirens have sounded at least 19,000 times. Only four days throughout the entire year have passed without a Russian airstrike. More than 2,500 civilians have been killed and …

AQA deletes photographers’ names from exam after images ‘not appropriate for learners’ found on their websites AQA deletes photographers’ names from exam after images ‘not appropriate for learners’ found on their websites More from this theme Recent articles England’s biggest exam board has scrubbed the names of two photographers from one of its GCSE assessments over concerns their websites contain images that “may not be appropriate” for students. In an email to schools last week, AQA announced that references to Sam Taylor-Johnson and Tim Walker in questions for an art and design paper had been removed to “protect” pupils. One of the pages contains a video of a fully-naked man, while the other has photographs of models appearing to simulate sex. Teacher flagged the issue An AQA spokesperson said: “We recognise that the photographers are distinguished artists in their field, but some of their content may not be appropriate for GCSE students.” Both photographers were referenced in questions in this year’s externally set assessment for GCSE art and design. The papers are usually shared with …
