What Is Gooning? Therapist Explains The New Trend Parents Should Question

Children chat about a lot of pretty odd stuff (remember Ballerina Cappuccina?) – however if you’ve heard them mention ‘gooning’ in conversation with their mates, or during gaming, it’s certainly worth pulling them up on it. While you might consider ‘gooning’ as messing around or even goofing about (that’s what first came to my mind), per Mashable, it actually means “masturbating for a prolonged period of time, usually hours, without ever climaxing”. In online spaces, it can also refer to zoning out as a result of intense sexual arousal, which Gabb (a company providing child-safe phones and tech) notes is “most often in the context of pornography”. The issue is, if tweens and teens are using this terminology, chances are they are coming across pornography or inappropriate content online. It’s not uncommon – over one-quarter (27%) of kids have come across pornography by age 11, according to a survey by the Children’s Commissioner. While children shouldn’t be easily coming across porn due to stricter regulation as part of the Online Safety Act, they may still …

The OnlyFans inheritance: how its owner’s death could reshape the porn money-making machine | Pornography

Yekaterina Chudnovsky, online biographies say, is a mother-of-four who “enjoys spending time with her family and teaching them the importance of giving back and helping others”. They add that Ukrainian-born Chudnovsky, known as Katie, finds sanctuary in walks on the beach. In interviews, Chudnovsky has spoken warmly about her commitment to philanthropy, her dedication to supporting cancer research and her work as a lawyer for an unnamed global technology firm. Pornography is never mentioned. Now, it may become unavoidable. After the death of Chudnovsky’s husband, Leonid Radvinsky, from cancer last week at the age of 43, she is now understood to have a controlling interest through a family trust in the London-based adult content site, OnlyFans. Chudnovsky is set to have a crucial role in deciding what happens to the business that made her husband a billionaire before he turned 40. The family stake is valued at about $5.5bn (£4.1bn). Chudnovsky’s views on pornography will determine the site’s future business model, and whether it continues to generate huge sums of money by taking a 20% …

Indonesia Starts Implementing Social Media Restrictions for Children Under 16

Indonesia Starts Implementing Social Media Restrictions for Children Under 16

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesia on Saturday began implementing a new government regulation approved earlier this month that bans children younger than 16 from access to digital platforms that could expose them to pornography, cyberbullying, online scams and addiction. With the move, Indonesia became the first country in Southeast Asia to ban children from having accounts on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live and Roblox. It follows measures that Australia took last year in a world-first social media ban for children as part of a push for families to take back power from tech giants and protect their teens. Indonesia has said that the implementation of the restrictions would be carried out gradually, until all platforms comply with the measure. “The government has instructed all digital platforms operating in Indonesia to immediately bring their products, features and services into compliance with applicable regulations. There will be no compromise on compliance, and every business entity operating in Indonesia is required to comply with Indonesian law,” Indonesia’s Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said …

A Hacker Accidentally Broke Into the FBI’s Epstein Files

A Hacker Accidentally Broke Into the FBI’s Epstein Files

The United States and Israel’s war with Iran has now been ongoing for two weeks, and the bombs continue to fall. But many of Iran’s missiles are failing to hit their targets. WIRED’s team in the Middle East detailed how countries in the Gulf region are intercepting these weapons. Of course, the international conflict is not just happening in the physical realm. This week, a hacker group tied to Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence severely disrupted the systems of US-based medical technology company Stryker. The attack, carried out by a group currently known as Handala has been particularly active since the wake of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel. We detailed how Handala has sown chaos with “opportunistic” attacks that look like hacktivism but are believed to be part of an Iranian state-backed campaign. Hacking isn’t the only type of war-linked cyberattack disrupting life in the Middle East and beyond. The rise of GPS attacks have made some basic activities, like using navigation apps or ordering food from a delivery service, nearly impossible for …

Dark personality traits are linked to the consumption of violent pornography

Dark personality traits are linked to the consumption of violent pornography

People who exhibit certain negative personality traits tend to spend more time consuming violent pornography and engaging in problematic online sexual behaviors. This pattern suggests a reinforcing cycle where people drawn to aggressive content may further normalize their own antisocial tendencies. These results were recently published in the journal Sexual Health & Compulsivity. The internet is an essential part of modern life, but its overuse can lead to serious public health concerns. When online engagement becomes excessive, it can cause functional difficulties resembling substance addiction. This includes symptoms like withdrawal, mood changes, and a persistent loss of control over digital habits. Adolescents and young adults are especially vulnerable to these issues during their critical periods of personality formation. Driven by a need to remain connected, young people face a heightened risk of internet addiction. This excessive online engagement can take many forms, including gaming, gambling, and sexual activities. One specific area of concern is the excessive consumption of online sexual content. While many online sexual behaviors are completely harmless, they can become an issue for …

Blaming a partner for shared pornography use buffers relationship dissatisfaction in women

Blaming a partner for shared pornography use buffers relationship dissatisfaction in women

When women who morally object to pornography watch it with their romantic partners, they often experience heightened sexual shame that lowers their overall relationship satisfaction. Blaming their partner for the viewing habit serves as a coping mechanism that softens this negative impact. These observations were recently published in the journal Sexual and Relationship Therapy. Access to explicit sexual media has increased heavily over the past few decades. As a result, researchers have dedicated a great deal of time to evaluating the emotional and social impacts of this consumption. Much of the past work highlights problematic viewing habits or perceived addictions among male users. The perspectives of female viewers often remain overlooked in academic literature. When studies do include women, they usually focus on how women react to a male partner’s viewing habits. Kristin Doan, a researcher at Liberty University, wanted to shift this academic focus. Doan and her team decided to investigate how women process their own viewing experiences. They focused heavily on mutual viewing habits. Mutual viewing occurs when romantic partners consume explicit media …

Quran Revolution founder sentenced to 80 years on child pornography charges

(RNS) — A former Texas imam and online Quran instructor who was charged with conspiracy to produce child pornography has been sentenced to 80 years in prison, according to federal court documents.  Wisam Sharieff was sentenced on Wednesday (Jan. 28) in the Alabama Northern District Court, more than six months after he entered a guilty plea on three federal child sexual exploitation charges. He was also ordered to pay $135,000 to a fund for victims of child sexual abuse. His co-defendant, Blake Miller Barakat, was sentenced to 70 years last October. The former high-profile imam’s arrest two years ago and details of allegations made available in court records sparked outrage for some Muslim Americans and led to conversations about how to hold alleged spiritual abusers accountable.  According to the indictment, Sharieff and Barakat, an Alabama woman he was teaching, allegedly conspired together to coerce Barakat’s child to engage in sexually explicit behavior for the purpose of producing pornography. FBI special agent Eric Salvador reported in a sworn affidavit that electronic devices and sexual toys were …

From OnlyFans mega-star to evangelical darling, Nala Ray now hopes to reach other models

(RNS) — Months after accepting an award in Miami recognizing her as one of OnlyFans’ highest-earning creators, Nala Ray was baptized at Fearless Church, a non-denominational Christian church in Los Angeles, and quit making the content that she says generated more than $14 million from 270,000 subscribers. “I made more money than most NFL players,” Ray said. “I could have anything I wanted. It’s a very big false sense of empowerment.” Ray, 28, left OnlyFans in 2024. She has since married her husband, Jordan Giordano, a former Marine whose Christian faith she credits as instrumental in her own return to church, and the couple recently moved to Nashville, Tennessee.  “God has this cleansing process, the sanctification, and it’s a beautiful thing,” Ray said. “Sometimes it hurts, and I’m going through that now.” A video recording of her baptism on Dec. 26, 2023 generated 8.1 million views on her Instagram. Ray has since rebranded her online persona toward faith-focused and lifestyle content, often posting brand deals with Bible apps, prayer rings, a vacuum and Magnolia Cinnamon …

The State-Led Crackdown on Grok and xAI Has Begun

The State-Led Crackdown on Grok and xAI Has Begun

But how does one decide what constitutes a piece of content—or whether or not something is considered pornographic? “It’s mostly a counting question in terms of ‘does the law apply’” Alan Butler, the executive director of Electronic Privacy Information Center, previously told WIRED. Kupper, who sponsored Arizona’s age verification law, tells WIRED he stuck to the one-third threshold because it’s been previously upheld by the United States Supreme Court. He says he’s heard estimates that 15 to 25 percent of accounts on X are at least somewhat pornographic, but he’s not sure how accurate that is, nor does he think it’s “feasible” to analyze such ratios on every website. X did not respond to questions about what percentage of the platform it considers pornographic. “I don’t think you should have a threshold. It should be: Do you have pornographic material on your site? OK. I’m not saying you have to age verify for your entire site, but for any of the pornographic material, you should have to age verify,” Kupper says. Posts on X that …
