FBI head Kash Patel celebrates with men’s hockey team amid major probes in U.S.

That referred to the Mar-a-Lago intrusion, which happened while Trump was in the White House rather than Florida; violence that erupted in Mexico after its army killed the country’s most wanted drug lord; and the weekslong search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “TODAY” co-host Savannah Guthrie. Former FBI special agent Michael Feinberg was another prominent critic of the scenes in Italy. “One of the first things we were taught at Quantico was that there is never a moment in which you are not representing the Bureau,” he wrote on the social media platform Bluesky. Patel took to X to defend himself. “For the very concerned media — yes, I love America and was extremely humbled when my friends, the newly minted Gold Medal winners on Team USA, invited me into the locker room to celebrate this historic moment with the boys- Greatest country on earth and greatest sport on earth,” he wrote. Asked for additional comment by email, the FBI referred NBC News to Patel’s statement on X. Patel said he was not …

Trump demands Netflix fire Susan Rice as DOJ probes Warner deal

A drone view shows the Netflix logo on one of the company’s buildings in the Hollywood neighborhood in Los Angeles, California, U.S., Jan. 20, 2026. Daniel Cole | Reuters President Donald Trump late Saturday called on Netflix to fire board member Susan Rice or “pay the consequences,” after she said Democrats would push for corporate accountability if they regain power in the November midterm elections. In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump described Rice, who served as President Joe Biden’s domestic policy chief and held top foreign policy posts under President Barack Obama, as “purely a political hack” with “no talent or skills.” “HER POWER IS GONE, AND WILL NEVER BE BACK,” Trump wrote. Rice argued during a podcast last week that “it is not going to end well” for corporations, news organizations, and law firms that “bent the knee” to Trump, and that their deference is unpopular. “There is likely to be a swing in the other direction, and they are going to be caught with more than their pants down,” Rice told …

Trump Pivots to New 10% Global Tariff, New Probes After Supreme Court Setback

By Gram Slattery, David Lawder and Andrea Shalal WASHINGTON, Feb 20 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump moved swiftly on Friday to replace tariffs struck down by the Supreme Court with a temporary 10% global import duty for 150 days and ordered new investigations under other laws that could allow him to re-impose the tariffs. Trump signed executive orders late on Friday to impose new tariffs starting on Tuesday under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, partly replacing tariffs of 10% to 50% under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act that the top court declared illegal, and ending collection of the now-banned duties. The orders continued exemptions already in place for aerospace products; passenger ‌cars and some light trucks; goods from Mexico and Canada that are ‌compliant with the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement; pharmaceuticals and certain critical minerals and agricultural products. Trump’s Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, said the new 10% duties and potentially enhanced tariffs under the Section 301 unfair practices statute and the Section 232 national security statute would result in virtually …

EU probes Elon Musk’s X following Grok sexual images – POLITICO

The new investigation will look into whether the company properly assessed and mitigated the risks of integrating Grok, particularly those of “manipulated sexually explicit images” including some that “may amount to child sexual abuse material,” the Commission said. But the investigation “is much broader” than these images, a senior Commission official said during a briefing. The chatbot may have generated as many as 3 million non-consensual sexual images and 20,000 child sexual abuse images in the 11 days before it made changes to stop the spread of such photos, an estimate by civil society found. The image-generating feature of Grok went viral just before the end of 2025, as users instructed the chatbot to alter images of real people. | Dilara Irem Sancar/Anadolu via Getty Images On top of the new investigation, the Commission will expand a 2023 probe to look into the impact of X’s decision, announced last week, to switch the algorithm for its social media platform to a Grok-based system. The Commission said Monday it could take interim steps — for example, …

China probes largest online travel agency Trip.com over suspected monopoly

China probes largest online travel agency Trip.com over suspected monopoly

BEIJING: China’s market regulator said on Wednesday (Jan 14) that it had launched an investigation into online travel company Trip.com over alleged monopolistic practices, as Beijing steps up its crackdown on suspected unfair competition. Trip.com is suspected of abusing its dominant market position, the State Administration for Market Regulation said in its statement, without elaborating on the allegations. The investigation is based on preliminary reviews and the anti-monopoly law, it said. Under China’s anti-monopoly law, companies can face fines of between 1 per cent and 10 per cent of their annual sales from the previous year if found to have breached its provisions. Trip.com said in a statement that it was “actively” cooperating with the investigation and would “fully implement regulatory requirements”. The online travel service provider recorded a 16 per cent year-on-year surge in third-quarter net revenue, with accommodation reservation revenue increasing 18 per cent from the same period in 2024, its most recent financial report showed. In December, an industry association for homestays in southwestern China’s Yunnan province said it had received multiple …

Trump prosecutor Jack Smith defends probes in House testimony

Former special counsel Jack Smith arrives for a closed-door deposition with members of the House Judiciary Committee on the prosecutions of President Donald Trump, in Rayburn building on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Tom Williams | Cq-roll Call, Inc. | Getty Images Jack Smith, the former U.S. Justice Department special counsel who brought two now-dropped criminal cases against President Donald Trump, defended his investigation before a House of Representatives panel on Wednesday. Smith told lawmakers that the basis for the prosecutions “rests entirely with President Trump and his actions.” Smith gave private testimony to the Republican-controlled House Judiciary Committee following months of disclosures from Trump appointees at the Justice Department and Republican lawmakers intended to discredit Smith’s probe and bolster Trump’s claims that the cases were an abuse of the legal system. Smith and his team secured indictments in 2023, accusing Trump of illegally retaining classified documents following his first term in office and plotting to overturn his defeat in the 2020 election. Smith dropped both cases after Trump won the 2024 election, citing a Justice Department policy against prosecuting a sitting president. “If asked whether to prosecute a former president based on the same facts today, I would …

FAFO: Pentagon Probes Unhinged Democratic Senator After Video Urging Troops To “Refuse Illegal Orders”

The Pentagon has opened a misconduct investigation into Sen. Mark Kelly following his participation in a video, alongside several other crazed Democratic lawmakers, urging military and intelligence personnel to “refuse illegal orders.” The video message, delivered as “You must refuse illegal orders,” has been assessed as a direct challenge to lawful command authority and has been described as “sedition at the highest level” by President Trump.  On Monday, the Department of War wrote in an X post that an investigation has been launched into the Arizona lawmaker and former US Navy officer, Mark Kelly, over “serious allegations of misconduct.” DoW emphasized that military retirees remain subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice and to federal laws that bar efforts to undermine military loyalty or discipline. .@PressSec: “You can’t have a functioning military if there is disorder and chaos within the ranks, and that’s what these Democrat members were encouraging. It’s very clear.” pic.twitter.com/2HH2SZ2UQG — Trump War Room (@TrumpWarRoom) November 24, 2025 The department also reiterated that servicemembers must obey lawful orders, which are presumed lawful, and that personal …

Micron Technology: China probes US chip maker for cybersecurity risks as tech tension escalates

Hong Kong CNN  —  China has launched a cybersecurity probe into Micron Technology, one of America’s largest memory chip makers, in apparent retaliation after US allies in Asia and Europe announced new restrictions on the sale of key technology to Beijing. The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) will review products sold by Micron in the country, according to a statement by the watchdog late on Friday. The move is aimed at “ensuring the security of key information infrastructure supply chains, preventing cybersecurity risks caused by hidden product problems, and maintaining national security,” it noted. It came on the same day that Japan, a US ally, said it would restrict the export of advanced chip manufacturing equipment to countries including China, following similar moves by the United States and the Netherlands. Washington and its allies have announced curbs on China’s semiconductor industry, which strike at the heart of Beijing’s bid to become a tech superpower. Last month, the Netherlands also unveiled new restrictions on overseas sales of semiconductor technology, citing the need to protect national security. …
