‘Marshals’ Star Logan Marshall-Green on Why ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Is More Than a Procedural

‘Marshals’ Star Logan Marshall-Green on Why ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Is More Than a Procedural

Marshals is the latest TV series to expand the Yellowstone story universe, and it’s landed on CBS. The show, inspired by the characters created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, centers on Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). In an effort to forge a new beginning, Kayce joins the US Marshals. However, as much as he tries to move forward, unresolved demons from his past resurface in unexpected ways. Kayce is taken out of his comfort zone with the marshals, but also finds a place to focus his skills. This Marshals crew is led by Pete Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green) — known to his crew as “Cal” — and also includes Yellowstone universe newcomers Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel), Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos) and Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means). Yellowstone actors Gil Birmingham, Moses Brings Plenty and Brecken Merrill reprise their roles as Thomas Rainwater, Mo and Tate Dutton, respectively, meaning a narrative throughline involving the Black Rock Reservation and its community keeps the series tethered to Paramount Network’s landmark show. Heather Diehl | Getty Images The Senate on Thursday failed to clear a key procedural hurdle on a crucial government funding package, with a shutdown set to begin on Saturday at 12:01 a.m. ET. The procedural vote on the six-bill package was widely expected to fail as Democrats demand that the Republican majority strip funding for the Department of Homeland Security from the measure. Democrats want new restrictions on federal immigration enforcement after agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens this month in Minneapolis. The vote was 45-55, with seven Republicans joining Democrats in filibustering it. Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., voted no to reserve a motion to reconsider. The vote increases the likelihood of a government shutdown this week and will likely send Senate Republicans into negotiations with Democrats to find a solution. In addition to Homeland Security, the package that failed would also fund the departments of Defense, Treasury, State, Health and Human Services, Labor, Housing and …

Obamacare subsidies extension clears procedural hurdle in the House

Joe Raedle | Getty Images A Democrat-led push to extend recently expired Obamacare subsidies cleared a procedural hurdle in the House on Wednesday with support from nine Republicans, teeing up a final vote later this week. The House voted 221-205 in favor of a motion to discharge a bill that, if passed by the House and Senate, would extend enhanced tax credits for Affordable Care Act health insurance plan holders for three years.  Those tax credits were first implemented in 2021 under President Joe Biden as a pandemic-era relief measure and expired at the end of 2025, resulting in premium hikes for millions of Americans.  Congressional Republicans, who have largely opposed extending the subsidies, find themselves in a difficult position ahead of the 2026 midterms, as Democrats seek to make health care and affordability central campaign issues.
