“USA!” a man started chanting after the president was removed from the building. Some in the ballroom, still full of attendees, began filming the room.

In a post to Truth Social published at 9:17, Trump wrote “The shooter has been apprehended,” and saying “Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job.”

“I have recommended that we “LET THE SHOW GO ON” but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement,” Trump continued.

At around 9:30 p.m. ET, Jiang—who is also the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association—took the podium to announce that the event would not continue. “Law enforcement has requested that we leave the premises,” she said. The president “insists that we reschedule this event in the next 30 days, and {says] he wanted to do it tonight—he wanted to continue des-pite the news, but he has to follow security protocol.”

The president is expected to deliver a press briefing at the White House later Saturday evening, during which more details of the incident will be revealed. This story will be updated at that time.
