Prue Leith Explains Why She Quit The Great British Bake Off

Dame Prue Leith has opened up about her decision to step down from The Great British Bake Off. In a statement earlier this month, Dame Prue announced she was leaving the show after nine years co-judging with Paul Hollywood, having first joined Bake Off when it moved to Channel 4 in 2017. Now, she has elaborated on her decision in a piece for The Spectator, admitting that she’s been “dithering for years” about the right time to leave Bake Off. “When I joined nine years ago, I thought, since I was in my mid-70s, that I’d be lucky to manage two years,” Prue wrote. “At that age, my mother was deaf as a post and away with the fairies, believing her son was her father and that her cat was the one she’d had 40 years before. Prue Leith Quits The Great British Bake Off After 9 Seasons

Prue Leith has announced that she will not be returning to the Great British Bake Off. In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, Prue – who has been with Bake Off since it made the jump to Channel 4 in 2017 – enthused: “Bake Off has been a fabulous part of my life for the last nine years, I have genuinely loved it and I’m sure I’ll miss working with my fellow judge Paul [Hollywood], Alison [Hammond] and Noel [Fielding] and the teams at Love Productions and Channel 4.” She continued: “Now feels like the right time to step back (I’m 86 for goodness sake!), there’s so much I’d like to do, not least spend summers enjoying my garden. “Whoever joins the team, I’m sure they’ll love it as much as I have.
