The AI jobs debate just got messier

The AI jobs debate just got messier

AI-related job loss fears grow each time another company announces a round of layoffs. Through May of 2026, companies announced that close to 90,000 job cuts were tied to AI, and, by some accounts, up to 15% of U.S. jobs are projected to be eliminated by AI over the next five years. Promises from the tech industry that AI will also create new jobs does little to ease fears, especially for the generation wondering if anyone will be hiring when they graduate.  A recent report from Ramp and Revelio Labs, which track enterprise AI spend and workforce records from nearly 22,000 companies, respectively, complicates that gloomy narrative.  The report found that companies spending heavily on AI are growing headcount faster, even in the entry-level roles that many fear are doomed. According to the report, “high-intensity adopters” — firms that spend on average $30 per employee per month on AI in the first three months — saw headcount increase 10.2%. Headcount also rose across functions, including engineering, sales, administration, customer service, finance, marketing, and scientist roles. …

Ras Laffan Explosion Threatens To Slow Qatar LNG Ramp, Goldman Says

Ras Laffan Explosion Threatens To Slow Qatar LNG Ramp, Goldman Says

A powerful explosion tore through Qatar’s key natural gas plant late Sunday, killing at least 13 people and injuring 66 others. While the incident does not appear to have directly impaired LNG export capacity, it has certaintly raised the risk that Qatar may slow the restart of operations as a precaution. The timing could not be worse. The blast at Qatar’s giant Ras Laffan energy complex comes just a week or so after the US-Iran interim peace deal was signed and days after the Strait of Hormuz was reopened. Latest maritime ship tracking data shows a notable uptick in transits of tankers and cargo vessels on the critical waterway. Goldman Sachs energy expert Samantha Dart penned a note on Monday detailing how the explosion at Qatar’s Barzan gas plant in Ras Laffan does not appear to have directly affected the country’s LNG export capacity, but it has raised questions over whether Qatar Energy may slow the restart of export trains as a precaution, potentially tightening Europe’s winter gas balance. Dart said the blast likely adds …

Anthropic’s latest feud with the Trump admin may actually help it, sales data suggests

Anthropic’s latest feud with the Trump admin may actually help it, sales data suggests

Anthropic is having a month. The AI lab finished May by surpassing OpenAI in market share of business spending for the first time, Ramp just revealed. It raised $65 billion at a $965 billion valuation (also besting OpenAI) at the end of May, then waltzed into June by filing confidential paperwork for an IPO, reportedly on the strength of its first-ever profitable quarter. Then on Friday, the Trump administration renewed its war on the model maker by sending a letter demanding it ban non-Americans, including Anthropic’s employees, from accessing its state-of-the-art models: the limited-release Mythos 5 and the more guarded version of Mythos released to the public three days earlier, called Fable 5. This essentially forced Anthropic to pull its latest all-powerful model from the market altogether. Although the White House invoked an obscure export control directive when ordering the ban, the exact cause remains unclear. The chatter was that hackers easily bypassed Fable 5’s guardrails, which were intended to prevent access to Mythos’ capabilities. That model is so good at finding security flaws in …

Lawmakers ramp up scrutiny of political fundraising platforms

Lawmakers ramp up scrutiny of political fundraising platforms

Lawmakers are ratcheting up pressure on major political fundraising platforms ActBlue and WinRed as both parties intensify scrutiny of online campaign donations ahead of this fall’s high-stakes midterm elections. Republicans, including top Trump officials, have long alleged that ActBlue, the dominant fundraising platform for Democratic candidates and causes, is vulnerable to fraud and foreign donations.… Source link

Tulsi Gabbard Takes the Exit Ramp

Tulsi Gabbard Takes the Exit Ramp

It’s a measure of Donald Trump’s low regard for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, as well as its soon-to-be former occupant, that while the commander in chief was making final preparations to invade Venezuela and kidnap its president, Tulsi Gabbard was posting photos of herself from a beach in Hawaii. Gabbard, who informed Trump of her resignation today, spent 15 months as the director of national intelligence—on paper, at least. By law, the DNI is supposed to serve as the president’s chief intelligence adviser. Gabbard never was, and many of her stances were at odds with administration actions. Trump was contemptuous of even her modest efforts to speak truth to power. In the spring of 2025, when Gabbard testified to the intelligence community’s consensus view that Iran “is not building a nuclear weapon,” Trump replied, “I don’t care what she said.” Gabbard has long opposed U.S. military intervention in Iran and did not publicly come out in support of Trump’s decision to go to war. One of her top lieutenants quit in …

WHO evaluates vaccines as efforts ramp up to control Ebola outbreak

The WHO said Tuesday it was examining whether any candidate vaccines or treatments could be used to rein in what it warned could be a lengthy Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The WHO has declared the surge of the highly contagious haemorrhagic fever, suspected to have killed 131 people and infected more than 500, an international health emergency. Source link

Ramp in talks to hit B+ valuation, 6 months after reaching B

Ramp in talks to hit $40B+ valuation, 6 months after reaching $32B

Investors could not get enough of Ramp throughout 2025 and it looks like 2026 could be another banner year of fundraising for the corporate spend management startup. The company is in talks to raise another $750 million at a pre-money valuation of more than $40 billion, sources tell The Wall Street Journal. The deal is not yet final though, so terms could change. Ramp declined to comment. In November, Ramp announced it had raised $300 million at a $32 billion post-money valuation led by Lightspeed, which also included an employee tender offer. The company announced in July a $500 million Series E-2 at a $22.5 billion valuation led by Iconiq, which was just a few weeks after its $200 million Series E at a $16 billion valuation led by Founders Fund. It had raised a couple of other times earlier in 2025, each time another big valuation step up. Ramp has also had success generating revenue. In November, Ramp founder CEO Eric Glyman said his company had reached $1 billion in revenue, doubling its income …
