Alpine ski great Vonn says she needs multiple surgeries for complex leg fracture but has no regrets

CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy, Feb 9 : Ski great Lindsey Vonn said she suffered a complex leg fracture in Sunday’s downhill race at the Milano Cortina Olympics that will require multiple surgical operations. The 41-year-old added in an Instagram post that she had no regrets and that her anterior cruciate ligament rupture and other past injuries were not linked to the fall in her bid to win the gold, which went to her U.S. teammate Breezy Johnson. Vonn, the second most successful female World Cup skier of all time with 84 wins, has had two operations in Italy, a source said, to stabilise her after an horrific crash 13 seconds into one of the most hotly anticipated races at the Winter Olympics.   “Yesterday my Olympic dream did not finish the way I dreamt it would. It wasn’t a story book ending or a fairy tale, it was just life. I dared to dream and had worked so hard to achieve it. Because in downhill ski racing the difference between a strategic line and a catastrophic injury …

Handling Regrets Mindfully and Usefully

Handling Regrets Mindfully and Usefully

Regret is the point-down inner critic’s favorite sport. Regret is lamenting about past choices that we now consider to have been mistakes. Since the past can’t be wiped out, neither can regrets about it. Our work is not to get rid of regrets but to handle them mindfully and usefully. We can begin by realizing that what happened in the past does not have to be taken as the whole picture. Regrets serve to keep us stuck because the inner critic mutters, “You have made so many mistakes because you are inadequate and unskilled. You are too messed up to work anything out or try something new.” This is, of course, the voice of fear, the king of all regrets. Once we accept the given that we all make mistakes, fail to act, and impulsively and unwisely choose, regret is no longer about shame. It is about saying yes to our human predicament with all its intriguing intrigues. We may be looking at the givens of all human experiences and thinking they refer only to …

Norway crown princess ‘deeply regrets’ Epstein friendship

Norway crown princess ‘deeply regrets’ Epstein friendship

Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit said Friday, February 6, she “deeply regretted” her friendship with convicted US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the embarrassment it has caused the royal family. “I deeply regret my friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. It is important for me to apologize to all of those whom I have disappointed… I also regret the situation I have put the royal family in, especially the king and queen,” she said in a statement from the palace. It added that the crown princess, 52, wished to tell more and explain herself in detail. “She can’t do that now,” it said, noting that she was in a “very demanding situation.” The mention of someone’s name in the US files does not necessarily imply wrongdoing. Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting a minor for prostitution and died in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. In 2011, Mette-Marit wrote to Epstein that she had “googled” him, adding “it didn’t look too good” and ending the sentence with a smiling emoji. In 2012, when Epstein told Mette-Marit …

“I was foolish to spend time with him”: Gates says he “regrets” associating with Epstein

Microsoft founder Bill Gates broke his silence regarding his close ties to Jeffrey Epstein on Wednesday, saying he “regrets” ever knowing the international sex trafficker. Gates appeared in photographs in prior batches of released Epstein files, but is mentioned by name in the latest release. In Emails from 2013, Epstein claims that Gates got an STD from unnamed “Russian girls” and had requested antibiotics to give to his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, “surreptitiously.” Gates’ office flatly rejected the claims in a statement on Friday. French Gates publicly urged her ex-husband to answer for his ties to Epstein. “Whatever questions remain there … for those people, and for even my ex-husband, they need to answer to those things, not me,” she told NPR on Tuesday.  Gates addressed his relationship to Epstein in an interview with Australia’s 9News, calling the allegations in the email “false” and calling himself “foolish” for associating with Epstein. “Apparently, Jeffrey wrote an email to himself. That email was never sent. The email is false,” Gates said. “I don’t know what his thinking …

LA Olympic chief ‘deeply regrets’ flirty Maxwell emails in Epstein files

LOS ANGELES: Los Angeles Olympics chief Casey Wasserman apologised on Saturday (Jan 31) after decades-old flirty emails between him and Jeffrey Epstein’s jailed former girlfriend appeared in a fresh cache of files related to the investigation into the late convicted sex offender. Wasserman, the chairman of the organizing committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, said his 2003 email exchanges with Ghislaine Maxwell – who is serving a 20-year sentence for trafficking underage girls for Epstein – took place before her crimes were known. “I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell which took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light,” Wasserman, 51, said in a statement obtained by AFP. Wasserman’s emails to Maxwell were among millions of new pages released from the Epstein files by the US Justice Department on Friday, adding fresh fuel to the politically explosive case that has dogged President Donald Trump. In his statement on Saturday, Wasserman emphasized that he had “never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein”. “As is well …

It wasn’t something she took lightly. “Adult children don’t go no contact out of the blue,” Visser tells The Independent. “It’s something that’s been building up, and once they’d done it — nine times out of 10 — it’s a last resort. If they’re going no contact, maybe it’s time to look at the parent and not necessarily the child.” It’s a dilemma that has made headlines recently due to the reported chasm that has opened up between 26-year-old Brooklyn Beckham and his famous …
