‘Miracle’: Trapped man rescued eight days after Venezuela earthquakes | Earthquakes News

A man has been rescued from a collapsed building eight days after twin earthquakes devastated Venezuela. The rescue on Thursday came as attention has begun to shift from finding survivors under the rubble to addressing the humanitarian needs of the thousands of residents displaced. ‘Stranded dog’ rescued by Florida firefighters is not a dog

Firefighters in Cape Coral, Florida, got more than they bargained for during a Monday rescue call when the “stranded dog” they were rescuing turned out to actually be a young coyote. Here’s what happened: The Cape Coral Fire Department responded to reports of a dog trapped in a Britannia Lake canal. Engine 9 and Rescue 9 crews arrived to find a helpful local resident in a kayak who had been tracking the animal’s movements and guided rescuers to a dock where it had taken shelter. “Firefighters entered the water and were able to extract what turned out to be a coyote pup from the space,” the Fire Department shared on social media. The exhausted young animal was too weak to be released back into the wild immediately. The coyote pup was taken to East West Veterinary Care Center for initial treatment. Once stable, it will be moved to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, where it will recover until healthy enough for release. The rescue highlighted community cooperation, as both the kayaker and a …

77 migrants ‘rescued from an inflatable boat’ northeast of Lanzarote | World | News

Emergency services have rescued 77 migrants off the coast of a Spanish island on Sunday (14 June). The migrants, who were traveling aboard an inflatable boat, were located about 44 miles northeast of Lanzarote at around 2.30pm, according to Spanish emergency services. The Spanish coastguard said there were 77 people on board the vessel, including six women and three minors. This comes after Pope Leo XIV called for an “examination of conscience” on migration earlier this week during a visit to the port of Arguineguín in Spain’s Canary Islands. The Pope, who visited the islands from 6 June to 12 June, said :“It is not enough to manage arrivals, distribute figures, reinforce borders, or mourn the dead once they have already died,” as he visited the site. He also said: “Human dignity requires legal and safe routes, rescue and assistance, real cooperation against traffickers, effective protection for victims, serious processes of welcome and integration, and policies that allow each person to live with dignity in his or her own land.” EWTN Vatican.com said that “according …
