A Black Detective in the White House: The Residence

Toward the end of this post, the murderer is revealed.] For Bob Grunst, the only twitcher I know “Unpredictable recurrence is not a sign of language’s ambiguity but is a fact: of language, as such, that there are words.”– Stanley Cavell, “Macbeth Appalled” “Words can be like tiny doses of arsenic: they are swallowed unnoticed, appear to have no effect, and then after a little time the toxic reaction sets in after all.”– Victor Klemperer, The Language of the Third Reich “Would you show me this house? Explosives thrown near New York City mayor’s residence investigated as ‘ISIS-related terrorism’

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City’s police commissioner said Monday that authorities are investigating whether men who brought improvised explosive devices to a protest outside New York City’s mayoral residence were inspired by ISIS. The devices, which did not explode, were hurled during raucous counterprotests Saturday near Gracie Mansion during a “Stop the Islamic Takeover of New York City” event led by the far right activist Jake Lang. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the explosives could have caused serious injury or death. Two people are in custody for their alleged roles in the confrontation but they have not been charged, Tisch said during a news conference. Police are working with federal prosecutors and the FBI, which has assigned agents with the bureau’s Joint Terrorism Task Force to the investigation. “I can confirm this morning that this is being investigated as an act of ISIS-inspired terrorism,” Tisch said. The two have not been charged. Tisch said police were working with federal prosecutors and the FBI on the case. The FBI said agents with the bureau’s Joint Terrorism Task Force …

Trump Says He Doesn’t Believe Ukraine Struck Putin Residence

ABOARD AIR FORCE ‌ONE, Jan 4 (Reuters) – U.S. ‌President Donald Trump said he did not believe that an ‍alleged Ukrainian strike on President Vladimir Putin’s residence took place as claimed by Russia. “I don’t believe that strike happened,” Trump told reporters on Sunday aboard Air ‌Force One en route back to Washington, ‌D.C., from Florida. “There ‍is something that happened fairly nearby, but had nothing to do with this.” Moscow accused Kyiv on Monday of trying to strike a residence of Putin in Russia’s northern Novgorod region with 91 long-range attack drones, and said Russia would review its negotiating position in ongoing talks with the U.S. on ending the Ukraine war. Ukraine and Western countries have disputed Russia’s account of the alleged attempted strike. Kremlin Makes Show Of Handing Evidence To US Side ‘Proving’ Ukrainian Attack On Putin Residence

Kremlin Makes Show Of Handing Evidence To US Side ‘Proving’ Ukrainian Attack On Putin Residence

The Kremlin has really made a big show for the cameras of handing over to American officials what it says is evidence that Ukrainian drones had attempted to strike Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region Sunday night into Monday morning. The international community has asked for evidence Putin’s residence was targeted, and Moscow has responded. Footage released by the Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday shows Igor Kostykov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff, meeting with the US defense attaché in Moscow and handing over what he identified as a “navigation unit” recovered from one of the drones shot down in Novgorod. Russia has been on an information blitz, putting out images of downed drones and televised interviews of local Russian eyewitnesses to the drone waves early this week. But the ‘evidence hand-over’ to the US side is ultimately strong signaling aimed at President Trump. Kostykov described that the “decryption of the content of the memory of the navigation controller of the drones carried out by specialists of Russia’s special …

Ukraine, EU Officials Dismiss Alleged Attack on Putin Residence

Ukraine, EU Officials Dismiss Alleged Attack on Putin Residence

By Gram Slattery and Jonathan Landay WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, Dec 31 (Reuters) – Ukrainian and European officials have rejected Moscow’s claims that ‌Ukraine targeted a personal residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin with a drone ‌attack this week, an incident that threatens to disrupt U.S.-led peace negotiations heading into the new year. On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov alleged that Ukraine had tried to attack Putin’s residence in the northern Novgorod region with dozens of drones, adding that Moscow would review its negotiating position as a result. U.S. national security officials have found Ukraine did not target Putin or one of his residences in a drone strike, ‍the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. Reuters could not immediately verify the report. The paper reported the conclusion was supported by a CIA assessment that found no attempt to target Putin or one of his residences. A CIA spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comment. U.S. President Donald Trump initially expressed sympathy for the Russian charge, telling reporters on Monday that Putin had informed …

Russia Presents Its Evidence Of Ukrainian Drone Attack On Putin’s Residence

Russia Presents Its Evidence Of Ukrainian Drone Attack On Putin’s Residence

“We’re going to see some escalation now,” Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Blaine Holt has said amid allegations Ukraine targeted Putin’s residence. “The Russians have made up their minds and made declarations about who they believe tried to strike the Valdai mansion that’s owned by President Putin, and they’re going to change their negotiable posture.” For starters, the Kremlin has already indeed made clear Moscow would toughen its stance in US-backed peace talks which seek to end nearly four-year-old war. The fear is also that Russia will use this as an ‘excuse’ to expand the war. The Kremlin has presented images of downed drones related to the attack. Russian Defense Ministry via Reuters The allegation is that Ukraine’s military launched 91 long-range strike drones at the presidential compound in Novgorod Region on Sunday night into early Monday, but that anti-air defenses intercepted all of them, and there was no damage or casualties. The Zelensky government has rejected this account, calling it a “fabrication” and says there was no effort to target Putin’s home. This denial was followed by …

Moscow insists Ukraine attacked Putin’s residence as Kyiv announces fresh strikes – POLITICO

Moscow insists Ukraine attacked Putin’s residence as Kyiv announces fresh strikes – POLITICO

POLITICO was not able to verify the details of the video. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed on Monday that the alleged attack had involved more than 90 long-range drones and warned that Moscow’s position in U.S.-led peace talks would harden as a result. Ukraine flatly rejected the claim, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy calling it “another lie from the Russian Federation” and accusing Moscow of manufacturing a provocation to derail diplomatic momentum. Residents of the nearby town of Valdai told Russian independent media Mozhem Obyasnit that they had heard no explosions or signs of an overnight attack. Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service had previously warned that Moscow was preparing a disinformation operation aimed at derailing Zelenskyy’s progress in talks with U.S. President Donald Trump by blaming Ukraine for an alleged attack on Putin’s residence while presenting no credible evidence. Western officials also expressed skepticism. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas accused Moscow of spreading “unfounded claims,” describing the alleged attack as a “deliberate distraction” by which “Moscow aims to derail real progress towards peace by Ukraine …

US NATO envoy casts doubt on Russian claim that Ukraine attacked Putin’s residence

US NATO envoy casts doubt on Russian claim that Ukraine attacked Putin’s residence

By Humeyra Pamuk WASHINGTON, Dec 30 (Reuters) – U.S. ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker cast doubt on Tuesday on Russia’s accusation that Ukraine attacked President Vladimir Putin’s residence, saying he wants to see U.S. intelligence on the incident. “It is unclear whether ‌it actually happened,” Whitaker told Fox Business “Varney & Co.” in an interview about an alleged incident which Ukraine has denied. “It ‌seems to me a little indelicate to be this close at a peace deal, Ukraine really wanting to get a peace deal done, and then to do something that would be viewed as reckless or not helpful,” he said. Russia said on Monday that Ukraine had attacked a presidential residence in the Novgorod region with ‌91 long-range attack drones. It said it would retaliate and that its negotiating stance would toughen in the talks. Ukraine called Russia’s accusations “lies” aimed at ‍justifying more attacks on Ukraine, and its foreign minister said on Tuesday that Russia had not provided any evidence “because there’s none.” U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that …
