The Job Market Is So Bad, Survey Finds Most People Looking For Work Just Don’t Care Anymore

The Job Market Is So Bad, Survey Finds Most People Looking For Work Just Don’t Care Anymore

The burnout from looking for work is real. Talker Research conducted a survey of 5,000 career hopefuls who are essentially done with looking for work because it feels hopeless.  According to the findings, “Eight in 10 unemployed Americans are struggling to find the motivation to continue their job search.” Add to that the challenges of AI replacing jobs, AI making the resume-review process more difficult, fake jobs, and the simple fact that applying has become much more difficult than ever before. Is it any wonder that the unemployed just don’t care anymore? The job market is so bad that a survey found that most people looking for work just don’t care anymore. MAYA LAB | Shutterstock What was so interesting about the survey was that, despite Gen X and baby boomers being unemployed for the longest stretch, every generation was struggling. From feeling overwhelmed at the market itself to the stress of countless rejections, the overall theme among those who want to work but simply can’t find a job is why even try.  The US …

Mediators move to extend US-Iran ceasefire, Trump says talks could resume soon

President Donald Trump said talks with Iran to end the war could soon resume and end in a deal, telling the world to watch out for an “amazing two days”, while US forces imposing a blockade turned back vessels leaving Iranian ports. With the prospect of US and Iranian officials returning to Pakistan for more talks, Vice President JD Vance, who led negotiations that ended on Sunday with no breakthrough, said he felt positive about where things stood. President Trump told The New York Post on Tuesday that talks with Iran “could be happening over the next two days” in Islamabad. In an interview with Fox Business on Wednesday, Trump said the Iran war is “very close to over,” but he added, “we’re not finished.” Trump has repeatedly suggested the war is nearing an end without offering a clear timeline. America’s stock market hit a record high, boosted by investors’ optimism that an end of war could be within reach. Meanwhile, the Republican-led Senate blocked a measure to limit Trump’s war powers in Iran. Democratic lawmakers have forced the vote four …

Salmon fishing set to resume along California coast

Salmon fishing set to resume along California coast

Commercial fishers will be allowed to catch salmon along the California coast this year for the first time since 2022 after a rebound in fish numbers prompted regulators to end a three-year ban. The long closure has hit the state’s fishing industry hard, driving many to leave their boats and look for other work. The resumption of fishing this spring will enable crews to catch restricted numbers of fall-run Chinook salmon on certain dates. “The limited reopening is a lifeline. It gives you a little bit of money,” said Vance Staplin, executive director of the nonprofit Golden State Salmon Assn. But “they’re not getting enough to sustain their businesses the way it was prior to this shutdown, by any means.” A sharp decline in the Chinook salmon population led to the ban on commercial fishing in 2023, 2024 and 2025, the longest shutdown in state history. During the shutdown, some managed to stay in business by catching crabs or other fish, while others have left the state. Fisherman Chris Pedersen walks on a dock in …

US Military Says It’s Ready to Resume Iran Fighting if Diplomacy Fails

By Idrees Ali and Phil Stewart WASHINGTON, April 8 (Reuters) – The top U.S. general said on Wednesday U.S. troops stood ready to resume fighting if Tehran failed to strike a negotiated settlement as the Trump administration sought to portray the war as a decisive victory against Iran. The remarks came a day after President Donald Trump pulled back from the brink of a threatened civilization-ending ‌assault on Iran on Tuesday night, two ‌hours before a deadline he had set for Tehran to open the blockaded Strait of Hormuz.  U.S. and Iranian officials are set to meet in Pakistan for talks on Friday. “We hope that Iran chooses a lasting peace,” General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Pentagon news conference. “A ceasefire is a pause and the joint force remains ready, if ordered or called upon, to resume combat operations — with the same speed and precision as we’ve demonstrated over the last 38 days.” Despite the ceasefire, Saudi Arabia’s crucial East-West oil pipeline, currently its only outlet for …

Manila, Beijing resume talks on South China Sea, energy security

MANILA: The Philippines and China have resumed high-level talks this week over the disputed South China Sea, exploring preliminary steps toward oil and gas cooperation while addressing energy and fertiliser supply issues amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, the Philippine foreign ministry said. The 11th round of talks under a bilateral consultation mechanism established in 2017 was the first such meeting since January 2025.  Manila “firmly reiterated its principled positions,” raising concerns about incidents threatening Filipino personnel and fishermen, and underscoring the importance of diplomacy, communication, and adherence to international law, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday (Mar 28). STABLE ENERGY, FERTISILER ACCESS Both sides discussed initial exchanges on oil and gas cooperation and emphasised stable energy and fertiliser access. The talks come after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of national energy emergency earlier this week, citing oil supply disruptions due to the Middle East conflict and announcing efforts to diversify fuel imports, including sourcing from China. The talks also addressed renewable energy, agriculture, trade, and potential people-to-people initiatives, such as visa-free …

Duke and Duchess of Westminster resume duties following arrival of first baby

The Duke and Duchess of Westminster have been away from the public eye since they welcomed their daughter, Cosima, back in July. However, on Friday, the couple made their return to their duties. The couple headed out to the Chester FC Community Trust, where they heard how the King George V Sports Hub was helping grassroots football and communities in Chester. The work of the organisation is supported by the Duke’s Westminster Foundation, which has donated £520,000 towards its scheme. The sports hub was opened by the Duke back in 2022, and the facility has now been transformed into one that supports health and wellbeing, sport, education and community development. During the visit, the Duke and Duchess heard about projects at the site, including the Blacon Youth Hub, a nightclub for youths run on Fridays. Another initiative was the Chester FC Football Education course, which supports 16-18-year-olds into a career within the sports industry. Live Nation Antitrust Trial to Resume After States Can’t Settle

Live Nation Antitrust Trial to Resume After States Can’t Settle

The antitrust trial against Live Nation is set to resume Monday, as the concert and ticketing giant failed to reach a settlement with a majority of the states that sued the company in tandem with the Department of Justice. Several states including Arkansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Oklahoma did reach a settlement, according to documents filed in court Friday and to the news outlet Inner City Press, but over 30 more — including major live music markets California, New York and Texas — are pressing on. The move comes after the DOJ and Live Nation officially came to a settlement earlier this week during the middle of the ongoing trial. While the DOJ had originally called to break up Live Nation and Ticketmaster when the department first sued the company back in 2024, the settlement keeps Live Nation in tact, with more minor provisions that include Live Nation divesting exclusive booking agreements with 13 amphitheaters, a 15 percent fee cap at amphitheaters and as much as $280 million in damage payments. The attorneys general for …

Live Nation, Ticketmaster Trial to Resume After 7 States Join a Justice Department Settlement

Live Nation, Ticketmaster Trial to Resume After 7 States Join a Justice Department Settlement

NEW YORK (AP) — More than 30 states will resume their antitrust trial against Live Nation and Ticketmaster on Monday after negotiations this week failed to result in many states joining a tentative settlement reached by the Justice Department. Lawyers told the judge Friday at a hearing in New York that seven states — Arkansas, Iowa, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina and South Dakota, all of which have Republican attorneys general — were joining the Justice Department in settling with the live music giant. The other 32 states, along with the District of Columbia, plan to continue trying to convince a jury that Live Nation Entertainment and its ticketing subsidiary, Ticketmaster, are squelching competition and driving up prices for fans. They say this was done through threats, retaliation and other tactics to control virtually every aspect of the industry, from concert promotion to ticketing. The companies say they do not monopolize their industry and that artists, sports teams and venues set prices and decide how tickets are sold. A jury had already begun hearing testimony …
