Charlie Brooks is reportedly returning to EastEnders later this year. The Sun reports that Brooks will reprise her Janine Butcher role – which she first played in 1999 – following a four year break. The publication claims that her “explosive” storyline, which will kick off in the autumn, could well play into another eventful Christmas in Walford. A source said: “Janine’s appearance is going to blow the roof off Albert Square.” “The bosses have several huge stories planned for this autumn, which will all start building towards Christmas. Yes, it’s that time of the year again! EA has officially confirmed the release date for EA Sports FC 27. More than three decades on from its debut as FIFA International Soccer, the series has cemented itself as the de facto football video game, and one of the biggest series in the world. SINGAPORE: The return of National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) chief Ng Chee Meng to Cabinet is “timely” given the growing priority placed on jobs and workplace transformation, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said on Wednesday (Jul 22). Responding to a question from CNA at his press conference, Mr Wong said he had accepted Mr Ng’s request in May last year to focus solely on the labour movement and his Jalan Kayu ward. A year on, Mr Ng has settled into the ward and worked hard on the ground there, he said. “And now as we look at the situation, we know that jobs and workplace transformation has become a much higher priority for the government,” Mr Wong said. Actress Elizabeth Rider is returning to Coronation Street this summer. The star, who has appeared in Line of Duty, Sister Boniface Mysteries and Call the Midwife, also has an impressive wealth of soap roles under her belt. She’s appeared in four different Casualty, Holby City and The Bill roles, three in Emmerdale, and one each in EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Waterloo Road. Rider also had a recurring part as DCI Lynette Roberts in Doctors between 2009 and 2017. From August to October 1999, she played Kathleen Gutteridge, the biological mother of Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold) on Corrie. At the time, he’d just discovered that uncle Fred Elliott (John Savident) was actually his father. Ashley resented Kathleen for abandoning him, though they later made amends and she attended his wedding to Maxine Heavey (Tracy Shaw).
