When are the next Tube strikes? All the RMT walkout dates in May

More Tube and bus strikes are on the horizon, threatening another challenging week for commuters in May. The RMT union has announced two 24-hour walkouts, kicking off at midday on Tuesday, May 19 and again on Thursday, May 21, with the effects spilling across four working days. During April’s strikes, stations were packed with long queues as frustrated commuters searched for alternative routes home, with many turning to bikes to get around. E-bike provider Lime reported a 22% jump in trips on April 23 compared with the previous week, while Forest saw evening rush-hour rides soar by more than 50%. With strike action looming again, all signs point to a repeat of that pattern. TfL sources say they will have a clearer picture soon, but for now, Londoners might want to start thinking about a backup plan. When are the Tube strikes this week?

When are the Tube strikes this week?

The strikes will affect the entire Tube network. While a reduced service will run across most lines, significant disruption is expected. TfL has said that services running will be less frequent and very busy. Tube services that do run will also finish early. No service is expected on the Piccadilly and Circle lines, the Metropolitan line between Baker Street and Aldgate, and on the Central line between White City and Liverpool Street. Here’s exactly when the strikes take place this week. When are the Tube strikes this week? Drivers from the RMT union will strike from midday on Tuesday until midday on Wednesday, and again from midday on Thursday until midday on Friday. This means that disruption can be expected for evening commutes on Tuesday, morning commutes on Wednesday, evening commutes on Thursday, and morning commutes on Friday. An RMT picket line during the Tube strikes in September RMT Strikes are also planned across seven bus routes operated by Stagecoach from Bow Bus Garage this week, affecting the following routes from 5am Friday until 5am …

Tube strikes warning: ‘No service from Tuesday until Friday’ as Sadiq Khan calls for peace talks with RMT

Tube strikes warning: ‘No service from Tuesday until Friday’ as Sadiq Khan calls for peace talks with RMT

Sir Sadiq Khan has urged the RMT union not to press ahead with a Tube strike that could cause three weeks of chaos for passengers. It came as The Standard learned that the impact of the strike could be much worse than initially expected for commuters and businesses. There could be “limited or no service” on the London Underground from Tuesday morning until Friday afternoon on each of the three weeks earmarked for the walkouts. On Wednesday, the London mayor urged union leaders to return to the negotiating table and resolve their differences with Transport for London “amicably”. The RMT, which Sir Sadiq described as a “good trade union”, has announced six 24-hour walkouts starting on March 24 and continuing in April and May. But because each of the strikes starts at midday and finishes at midday the following day, before resuming a day later, it is feared this will cause significant disruption over four consecutive days –Tuesday to Friday – in each of the weeks earmarked for action. Soon after the strikes were announced …

Tube strike hammerblow for Londoners as RMT drivers vote massively in favour of walkout over four-day week

Tube strike hammerblow for Londoners as RMT drivers vote massively in favour of walkout over four-day week

Tube drivers have voted massively in favour of going on strike in a bid to block the introduction of a four-day working week. No strike dates have been announced yet but a walkout of drivers who belong to the RMT union would cause massive disruption to the London Underground, though may not result in a total shutdown. RMT bosses have to give Transport for London two weeks’ notice of any strike action – meaning the earliest a walkout could take place would be mid-March, as no announcement is expected from the union today (Friday, February 27). The RMT opposes the way TfL is proposing to introduce a voluntary four-day week for Tube drivers because it would lengthen the working day and raise concerns about fatigue. But rival Tube drivers’ union Aslef is strongly in favour of the plans, which it regards as the “biggest improvement in working conditions for Underground train drivers in decades” and it would result in the equivalent of more than a month off. A total of 1,082 RMT Tube drivers voted …

The House | RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey: “Here’s The Thing – Strikes Are Effective”

Labour ministers, meanwhile, sell state ownership as the key to lower fares and higher productivity. Are they heading for a fight? As Wes Streeting battles with the “moaning minnies” – as he calls them – at the BMA, could the nationalisation of the railways be a threat to the trade unions, given ambitions around AI and reducing the duplication of jobs embedded in the current privatised system? “That will depend on what comes out in the negotiations,” says RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey, who admits: “There are some things that are going to be difficult to deal with. One of …
