Reps Ro Khanna and Tim Burchett to push fraud probe across all 50 states

U.S. Representative Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) speaks to members of the media during a break in a closed-door deposition with former US President Bill Clinton, outside the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center in Chappaqua, New York, US, on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026. Adam Gray | Bloomberg | Getty Images Reps. Ro Khanna and Tim Burchett will introduce a new bill to commission a nationwide waste, fraud and abuse probe for state-administered programs using federal funds, which was shared exclusively with CNBC. The proposed audit comes after reports of state-level welfare fraud erupted several months ago, drawing harsh condemnations from Republicans and some Democrats. The fraud allegations collided with proposals from Democrats to tax the rich to pay for expanded social services, which could surge trillions of new dollars into federal coffers. Khanna, D-Calif., who is separately leading Democrats on a bill to impose a federal wealth tax, told CNBC in December he would introduce the fraud probe as soon as he found a Republican cosponsor after some of his longtime Silicon Valley supporters threatened to revolt over …

How political extremes have always converged around antisemitism

How political extremes have always converged around antisemitism

(RNS) — As Passover approaches, the Jewish people revisit the true moment of liberation, when the Israelites traversed the parted waters of the Red Sea: “The waters were split, and the Israelites went into the sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their left” (Exodus 14:21-22). Many Jews feel like, today, we are walking between similar walls — except the waters pressing in on us are not from a sea, but from antisemitism that emanates from both extremes of the political spectrum. The wall on the left is epitomized by California Rep. Ro Khanna, a rising star on the Democratic Party’s progressive wing. He is not only stridently anti-Israel, he publicly aligns himself with antisemitic figures. In a recent social media post on X, Khanna said he supports Graham Platner, a candidate for Maine’s Democratic senatorial nomination who sports a tattoo that resembles the Nazi SS “death’s head,” and the far-left antisemitic streamer Hasan Piker who holds Israel responsible for Hamas’ savage Oct. 7, 2023, massacre. …

The candidate that Silicon Valley built is now the one they want to tear down

The candidate that Silicon Valley built is now the one they want to tear down

For months, there has been talk that Silicon Valley’s billionaire class was recruiting a candidate to take on Representative Ro Khanna. Early Tuesday morning, that candidate made it official. Ethan Agarwal (pictured above), a 40-year-old tech entrepreneur with no political background, told TechCrunch on Monday evening that he is running for California’s 17th congressional district. That process is likely to set up what may become one of the most lavishly funded primary challenges of the 2026 cycle. The race puts a spotlight on Khanna, a 49-year-old Democrat widely seen as a possible 2028 presidential candidate, who has publicly backed a one-time wealth tax in California. His endorsement has infuriated some of the state’s richest founders and investors, but Khanna has doubled down, introducing national legislation with Senator Bernie Sanders that would impose a 5% annual wealth tax on all Americans worth $1 billion or more — a proposal their offices estimate would raise $4.4 trillion over a decade. There’s a certain irony to the situation. Agarwal is a graduate of Wharton and spent three years …

Democrats plan to force Iran war powers vote next week

U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffires (D-NY) speaks at a press conference on the government shutdown at the U.S. Capitol on Oct. 8, 2025 in Washington, DC. Kevin Dietsch | Getty Images Congressional Democrats will force a vote on a war powers resolution relating to Iran next week, Democratic leadership announced Thursday, as President Donald Trump engages in a massive military buildup in the region. The resolution would limit Trump’s ability to conduct military action there. Reps. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., and Thomas Massie, R-Ky., have introduced a measure known as a war powers resolution that would compel the administration to seek congressional approval before engaging in any further activity in Iran. Congress has the sole authority to declare war under the U.S. Constitution, though that authority has been stretched in recent years by the executive branch. “As soon as Congress reconvenes next week, we will compel a vote of the full House of Representatives on the bipartisan Khanna-Massie War Powers resolution,” the Democratic leaders led by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., said in a …

‘I loved the torture video’: Epstein’s chilling email to Emirati billionaire

Amid the tens of thousands of deeply disturbing photos, videos and emails contained in the Epstein files is a chilling message: “I loved the torture video.” The name of the person who received that email from paedophile Jeffrey Epstein was redacted when the US Department of Justice (DOJ) released 3 million files on Jan 30. Now that man can be identified as one of the Middle East’s most powerful businessmen. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the chairman and chief executive of DP World, which owns a vast global network of ports and shipping and logistics companies, was one of the “six wealthy, powerful men” who initially had their names redacted in the files but were unmasked on Tuesday. Ro Khanna, the Democrat who helped to force the Epstein files release, named Mr Sulayem on the House floor where members of congress are legally protected from the threat of defamation. The DOJ allowed lawmakers access to unredacted Epstein files for the first time on Monday, allowing Mr Khanna and Thomas Massie, the Republican who pushed for the …

Epstein file redactions reveal victims as young as nine and implicate a high-level government official, lawmakers say

The remaining Department of Justice files on Jeffrey Epstein include the revelation that one of the pedophile’s victims was just nine years old and that a senior official in a foreign government was allegedly involved in his sex trafficking network, lawmakers have said. Democratic congressmen Jamie Raskin and Ro Khanna and Republican Thomas Massie visited the DOJ on Monday to review the remaining files withheld from publication due to their sensitivity via a secure terminal. As they emerged from the department’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., the trio raised questions about why some of the material had been redacted by government lawyers. “You read through these files, and you read about 15-year-old girls, 14-year-old girls, 10-year-old girls,” Raskin said. “I saw a mention of a nine-year-old girl today. I mean, this is just preposterous and scandalous.” Representatives Jamie Raskin, Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna are raising questions about why some of the contents of the files was redacted after visiting the Department of Justice to review the uncensored material (AP) Massie – the Kentucky GOP representative …

Reps ask judge to appoint special master for document release

Graeme Sloan | Bloomberg | Getty Images Two members of the House of Representatives asked a federal judge in New York on Thursday to appoint a so-called special master to ensure that all materials related to notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein are released by the Department of Justice as required by the law they promoted. Reps. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Ro Khanna, D-Calif., in their request for that independent monitor, blasted the DOJ for failing to meet a Dec. 19 deadline to release all of the Epstein files. “The conduct by the DOJ is not only a flagrant violation of the mandatory disclosure obligations under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, but as this Court has recognized in its previous rulings, the behavior by the DOJ has caused serious trauma to survivors,” Massie and Khanna wrote to Manhattan Federal Court Judge Paul Engelmayer in a letter obtained by CNBC. The letter was …
